The original plan for Live Aid was for Mick and David to perform this song live from the two Live Aid locations; Mick at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia and David at Wembley Stadium in London. Unfortunately technology of the day made that impossible; there was too much of a delay. They couldn't sync up. So that's why they had to pre-record the video ahead of time
Done for Live Aid in 1985 and filmed the week before. Hence, the low budget background and simple cover version of a Motown classic.
This was first recorded by Martha and the Vandellas back in the 60’s at Motown, and has been covered by other artists since then, including the Mamas and Papas. Love the energy of Bowie and Jagger here!

Exactly and yet Seth ‘the money grabbing Whore’ MacFarlane. Tried to ridicule it in a Family Guy episode. About 10 years after he and it stopped being remotely funny. What a bellend.
The reason they vibe together so well is by this time they'd been friends for decades. Not just friends, either; they've both confirmed they were one of each other's conquests back in the anything-goes days of the 70's. So they have an extremely comfortable and meshed vibe in this video. They probably didn't even rehearse.
You gotta see the Queen performance at live aid. It is long, but soo worth it. Nobody worked a crowd like Freddy Mercury.

It's awful and beyond cheesy. It goes against both artists’ talent and previous work. Bowie went commercial after his Berlin years, and Mick became a caricature of his once-great self. It's an undeniable low point for both.

Bowie was always ready for a laugh, if you watch his live stuff, especially when he started performing and feeling more comfortable as himself in the early 2000s, you'll see his always in good spirits and cracking jokes. David was great.

This version is a remake of a Motown classic. It was originally sung by Martha & The Vandellas.
Great chemistry between these old friends...miss you Bowie, RIP.
Queen and Freddie Mercury at live aid 1985 was amazing….a must see!
I really love these two together. Energy personified!
I saw Stones for my 50th and Jagged never stopped dancing!!! Saw Bowie 4 times and never disappointed, but awestruck!!!
The two of them did such a good job with that song, so much energy. It was very popular, especially the video on MTV. And Mick Jagger definitely has the moves.
Oh this is such an awesome song I haven’t heard it for ages. It just makes you want to get up and dance.💃💜
Mick Jagger and Tina Turner performed together at Live Aid and rocked it.
At Live Aid live at Wembley Stadium in England, Queen gave a legendary performance. It would be super cool to see you react to that whole performance!
They kept the original Motown feel to this, great collaboration by two of the greats.
Queens live aid was the best if you have about 25 minutes to listen to it. It's well worth it just amazing.

If you want to see a FUN side of Bowie, watch the movie "Labyrinth" by Jim Henson. He plays the goblin king and is quite snarky and smooth at the same time.
This video was premiered during the Wembley Live Aid concert in July 1985, to fill in a gap in performances. It then ran several times that day.
Van Halen during the DLR days recorded a great cover of this song.
Love seeing these two Goofball it up and show everyone it's ok to just be free, no ego or seriousness - love the moves
This song and video was so popular when it came out. The collaboration made so much sense. A fun song.
"David Bowie and Mick Jagger need to be in ALL songs together!" Love it!!
2 British Rock Legends ❤
Live Aid was such a huge deal back in the day. I remember my friend taping as much of the show as she could fit on a VHS tape (which wasn't much). Ah, those days before DVR and streaming. So many great performances that day.

I was 14 and on a school trip camping in France...our teachers gave us a day off and we listened to most of it sat round a transistor radio 📻
Live Aid was one of those things in life that if you saw it you'll never forget it and you feel privileged that you were alive and got to see it.
The best colab ever has to be David Bowie and Queen: Under Pressure!
I can remember watching the Live Aid concert when this came on my dad called from the other room "Is that Mick Jagger singing Dancing in the Street?". He came and watched this while he had ignored every other performance from Live Aid except his favorite Beach Boys.
The original Motown 60's version was Martha and the Vandellas. You should react to that too.
That is the whole point of the song is to make you dance. Just dance !!!!
The greatest live performance of all time was Queen. On a day full of music and legends, Queen stole the show so much they made a movie about it. Watch that 22 min performance, Freddie at his greatest
Oh my gosh! My favorite song when it came out. As soon as I got home from school, I called our local radio station and requested this song. Jagger and Bowie are just cool!
I can't hear this song without thinking of the Family Guy episode when they showed this music video and Peter said, "1985 brought us the gayest music video of all time". Then after the video he said, "That happened, and we all let it happen". LMAO! Still, it's 37 years later and Dancing in the Street is still one of the silliest and most fun music videos to watch. Thanks RSR!
Yes we have been dancing in the streets since the mid 60's.
Mick Jagger - what a nutter! Live forever, Mick!❤
This was a prerecorded for Live Aid cause they couldn't be in England to do it. One of the best sets of all time was done at Live Aid. It is regarded by most . Queen at Live Aid. It's about 18 minutes long but omg so good. You will want to see it.

@@jamesscully529 ... Mick actually was in Philly too and performed solo, including his famous duet with Tina Turner on the Jackson's State of Shock. He and the other Stones couldn't have been that mad at each other if they were both in the same place at the same time
Anyone remember Mick Jagger's duet with Michael Jackson called "State of Shock" in the 1980's ???? That was always a hidden Gem of a track ..... 👏😉
Bowie was the epitome of coolness…..he was never out of fashion and he is missed so much😢
I love superstar duets that you don't see coming & this will always hold a special place in my heart. When I see this, it makes me think of so many other cool duets, mainly Athera Franklin & Annie Lennox 'sister's are doing it for themselves' which I know you would love on a female Friday 😉
If you are looking for another Live Aid performance, check out the song "Vienna" by Ultravox. Their singer, Midge Ure, was one of the organizers who made Live Aid happen and he gave one of the most incredible vocal performances that day.
Love this version! So much fun!!! ❤

This is a cover written by Marvin Gaye, William "Mickey" Stevenson and Ivy Jo Hunter. It hit the charts in 1964 with Martha Reeves & The Vandellas recording it. It reached number 2 in the USA and number 4 in the UK. They are doing with the energy Martha Reeves & The Vandellas did it.
I remember when this first came out, my best friend and I would dance around her room and lip sync to this every day after school. So much fun!
I recommended this years ago so I'm very glad you got there in end. David Bowie was the coolest man on the planet.
Despite the criticism - I LOVE the quirkiness of this - and have always loved this song. It's a fun video that shows they don't have to take themselves so seriously all the time. Nothing wrong with doing that once in a while. Just makes you human.
I remember watching this video when it was released. An entirely fun video. I remember thinking that I had no idea Bowie could move so much! The 80swere so much fun , and united
Definitely one of my favs...thanks for playing!
I’ve fantasized about watching you watching Mick and Bowie Dancing In The Streets! Too fun this was.
You need to check out "This is Not America". An AMAZING tune. Bowie,
“That happened. And we all LET it happen.” - Peter Griffin - That you two guys are slightly younger than me enough to not have the 80s allergy that I do … I suppose I envy you. It was things like this, Billy Ocean and also that diet coke ad with Elton John and Paula Abdul that made Nirvana feel like salvation.
Well there's a song I haven't heard in such a long time! I remember this video and their version of this song, it rocked! However, we gotta tell you there is an original version of this song by Martha and the Vandellas recorded in 1965 then Van Halen covered it in 1982, that is when I heard this song first, then three years later by David Bowie and Mick Jagger in 1985. This is a cover from the early 60s Motown hit song from "Martha and The Vandellas." It was a great song. Mick Jagger and David Bowie are (were) tight friends (Both are British) and worked on one another's songs, and albums over almost 50 years, until David's recent death a few years ago. I'll never forget the interview I heard with Mick Jagger talking about the time David Bowies' wife came home unexpectedly, only to find Mick and David in bed together.
