Avi (pronounced Ah Vee) was still in town for the video shoot for Ring of Fire and, since they were shooting this video, too, decided to photo bomb the set. The guys from Home Free thought it was so much fun they left it in. This one is a Tim Foust original, as I'm sure others have told you by now. It was written, however, as a protest when Tim was told by the gentleman he was working for that he needed to start writing country music, and didn't want to. So, Tim thought up the "stupidest country song I could come up with" and wrote it. Turns out...even when he's trying to mess up he can't! 🤣🤣🤣 Tim used to hate singing this song, but sees the humor in the entire situation now and enjoys it for what it is.

Yeah - what he said. A lot of the a cappella musicians are good friends, supportive of each other, and perform a guests on occasion. It’s a wholesome part of the music industry--maybe the one one. Some collaborative examples: Geoff did the arrangement for “Elvira” for Home Free when they featured the Oak Ridge Boys, and Layne contributed to the creation and arrangement of their “Butts Remix/Medley.”

Come to think of it … those overalls are KEY in both “Champagne Taste OABB”…AND, the “Butts Remix”.

The long story of this song is that Tim was working as a pop song-writer in LA, and his boss decided that they were going to pivot to doing country music. Tim was trying to get away from the country music he thought of something his parents liked, not him, so he decided to go home, drink a bottle of whiskey and write the most country song he could think of, to get it out of the way. As he tells the story, it's since become his most popular original...

Avi Kaplan was still around after filming "Ring of Fire" with them and does 3 cameos in this video. His is the hand putting the champagne glass on the table, then walking in front of them and at the end, he's sitting on the bull at the back. Love your channel - your enthusiasm & energy are infectious!

Tim & Austin are both song writers and have originals with Home Free and on their own channels. I think you'd love "Earn It" & "If I Met You Now" (on Austin's channel) & Tim's "What's Left of My Heart" & "Remember This" (on Home Free's).

Two of my favorite originals are Dive Bar Saints and Catch Me If You Can. I would definitely recommend watching them in that order and around the same time (there is a tie-in from the first video to the second).

I like this original but one of my favorites is 'Snow Globe' with a fifties feel to it.

You want a capella originals? You want something that will kick your teeth in? Look no further than Home Free's last album, So Long Dixie. Apart from two fabulous covers, the whole album is written by Tim (the country stuff) and Austin (the adult contemporary stuff) with assorted collaborators. Two of Austin's have just had the videos shot so won't be available for a while but his Save the World is stunning (and not a capella! Some people complained but so what as long as it works, and this really does). I guarantee you will love it. Austin keeps his shirt on throughout. It became a standing joke with Chris Rupp that he believed Austin was seeking opportunities to take his shirt off on TV. It really wasn't the kid's fault that the Sing Off editors kept repeating a shot of him emerging tousled and lovely from the shower. So I think in this one he plays a favourite character, Georgiaboy, the hapless assistant in whatever off the books business Tim is running, and off the shirt came. But I think my favourite bit is Rob, in hideous shorts, bouncing up and down.

Avi Kaplan is the surprise cameo appearance at the end! Home Free was shooting "Ring of Fire" the same few days apart. One great thing about a capella groups that I love about Home Free, Pentatonix, and Voice Play is that they frequently collaborate with each other. There is no competition between who is the better group with them. For example, Voice Play's Geoff Castelluci has helped arrange music for some videos for Home Free. And Avi Kaplan collaborating with Home Free's "Ring of Fire".

And Tim has a cameo in VoicePlay's Just Sing, which is my favorite of their songs, it's just pure joy. Not a lot of people react to it though because it was done for charity so it is never able to be monetized for the reactors.

Yes, I believe Avi had just done the collab with them on Ring of Fire the previous day and hung around...

It's a good enough song, that the first few times I heard it was on the radio in Houston. Before I had any idea who Home Free was.

One of their most recent originals, Save the World is so powerful. Please react to it! It’s a little different than most of Home Free‘s music because it includes an instrument, and features only Austin (the guys provide the background vocals). Austin wrote the song describing how his love ,Amberly, helped him find the joy in life again.

Go back and notice, Austin very subtly gave Avi a signal to walk in front of the camera and also it was Avi (AH Vee) who set the glass on the table. They had just wrapped up Ring Of Fire featuring Avi and he was already there, so he was included in the song as well. Ring of Fire is a Tim and Avi bass singoff.

Two other HF originals that I'd highly recommend are Dreamer (of which there are 3 versions, one just with HF, one with Texas Hill, and one live from the Ryman with Texas Hill) and What's the World Coming To?, but you literally can't go wrong with Home Free originals, they're all phenomenal. I'd love to see you do a Chance-led ballad, such as I Can't Outrun You or Cover Me Up, so he can join the rest in having really thrown you for a loop, lol. When you do Cover Me Up, though, make sure you watch til the very end! No spoilers and much cuteness!

Funny story about this song. Tim was working in LA for a time and his boss wanted him to write a country song. He didn’t want to but the boss insisted so he got drunk and wrote this in one night. Turns out it’s a big hit. Love the lyrics….I won’t see her pretty face at all since the prison’s no where near the mall. Hahaha. They have lots of originals. Their latest ones have musical instruments in them….So Long Dixie (I heard this live - wonderful!) and Giving Up on You with Texas Hill. They also have so many others….Dreamer, Dive Bar Saints, Understand, Love Me Like That. Tim and Austin do most of the writing for the group. 🥰

One of my favorites of their original songs is Timeless. Love that song.

You did not mention Rob's spectacular whistle. Maybe I am partial because my dad always whistled! Ok, you did mention it at the end, but he is a world class whistler!

Their latest album is all original’s except for “Everybody Walking This Land” and “Folsom Prison Blues.” All of them were written by Tim and/or Austin, some with cowriters. My favorite from the album is the title track, “So Long Dixie” and features an old friend of Tim’s, Chris Chatham, on guitar who also shares writing credit. I was going to tell you my 2nd favorite, but I couldn’t decide! Trivia: This song is on Tim’s first solo album and that album also contains at least one more that Home Free has done.

My favorite is Stargazer Lillies. I fell totally in love with it not even halfway through. No video for it yet except for live on stage.

They filmed this right after "Ring of Fire" so Avi did a Lil cameo. Lol & an added tidbit fun fact: the overalls Tim is wearing here make another appearance in the "Butts Medly/Remix" video. *hint hint* 😉🤣🥰🥰

How can you not smile when watching that? What a fun video! This is an original song that Tim wrote. These guys know how to have fun without compromising their vocals. Rob is great with his whistling & love Adam's vocal percussion. Fun seeing Avi Kaplan doing a cameo in this.

Yes that was Avi, and what took me a while to see was Avi on the bull. I'm so glad you saw it the first time through. The little bits of humor that are all over this video are so much fun. Tim actually wrote this because he was told write a country song or you don't get paid. He went home, got drunk and wrote this. Which in my book makes this that much better. They are absolutely the best!

Filmed in Minnesota. Adam, Chris and Rob are all from there. The spendthrift wife is played by Minneapolis actress Amanda Day. There are several Cowboy Jack's locations in the Mpls metro; this was filmed at the Woodbury location.

This is the first country song I loved! 😂 Home Free buddy Beaugs wore the same overalls in butts remix with no shirt! 😂 Home Free has 12 fantastic songs on the latest album So Long Dixie cowritten by Tim and Austin. Tim’s original full of Cheer is brilliant storytelling!

While this is an original and they sing it a capella Tim wrote this before he was in Home Free, snd has a version with instruments on his old solo album. They did this video in the same video recording session that they did Ring of Fire, so Avi was there. He didn't go there to make a cameo Also, these are the same overalls that Beugs was wearing in the Butts Remix. they just had to cut stuff because Beugs and Tim are neither the same height nor body shape

There's two Home Free video I want to recommend that are a bit out of the norm. Both are bits from live concerts where things didn't quite go they way they were supposed to. The first is titled Home Free Concert Morrison, IL 8/19/15. It's kind of long at about 27 minutes, but well worth the time. If that's too long the song that makes this video unique and memorable runs from about 7:30 to 11:30. The second video is actually a one time event that was filmed at it happened from several different angles, so you can start with the one I think is the best, then search for the five (that I know about) others. "Home Free Kearney, MO How Great Thou Art 6.17.2017 Complete Recording" is the one I think is best, but the other are just as moving. When the concert is interrupted by a heavy storm, the guys and the fans had to make do in a small space with no lighting and no mics. And the result is something so beautiful and amazing it goes straight to the heart.

Wait till you watch the Butt's Medley because I've heard Rob's friend Buegs cut the legs off and wears them shamelessly! It's freaking hilarious! 🤣

This makes me laugh so much. Watched this so many times and it never gets old. Yes, that was Avi. They just finished Ring of Fire or they had done this first then Ring of Fire.

They have so many good originals, their latest album are almost only originals. Road sweet road, So long Dixie, Stargazer lillies are three favourites of mine 😊

A couple faves of their originals is Dive Bar Saints and I've Seen Rain... I think Moonshine is an original also, but I'm insure. It was one of their quarantine releases... also their video called Quarantine is really funny.

Another Tim Foust original that the guys did that you should absolutely check out is "Snow Globe".

Besides Tim having been a professional song writer, the other thing to note is the quality of Rob's whistling, which is as good as Adam's harmonica playing. Oh yeah, and another stellar reaction.

Whether he's talking or singing, I could listen to Tim's voice all day. He does funny bits during some of their concerts called Story Time with Tim, and they're all hilarious. A lot of people don't catch when they're sitting there in a Canoe acting like they're paddling. It's like you're up a creek without a paddle

They had just finished the video for Ring of Fire and Chris asked him to do the cameo the next day. If you notice he's wearing Chris' cowboy hat. I think wearing the hat was a carry over from Chris asking him to put it on at the end of Ring of Fire.

They do have several originals that are quite beautiful and not in the funny vein. Tim, Austin and Adam Chance all write songs. Austin has written at least three or four love songs to his lady Amberly. Tim has a country album that was produced 11 or so years ago and this song was on it. He wrote all but one of the 12 songs I believe. You will have to dig around and google for originals from the guys. All told there are dozens. Some of them old and Chance and Austin both dropped a new one this past Friday. Chance's is poetic and gorgeous. l Austin's is more upbeat and humerous. In any case Austin wrote quite a bit for their So Long Dixie album and so did Tim I believe.
