Glavine was not only horrendous in this game 162 start as we all know, but he was also horrendous in his previous two outings = one earlier in the week at Shea against the Nationals, and the one before that ironically in Florida against the Marlins. I was not feeling confident at all with Glavine pitching this game, and I was right.... GIven, I did not expect him to self-destruct the way he did and not even pitch an inning

@@SiriusMined The division crown was all but theirs. 7 game lead with 17 games left and they went 5-12 in those final 17 games. I was only five years old in 2007 so I wasn’t aware yet of the significance of that historic collapse. 2022 was also really brutal for the Mets. They had a 10.5 game lead in the NL East in June and they had the division lead for 175 days and Atlanta had the lead for 8 days and Atlanta won the division forcing the Mets into the wildcard series against San Diego and the Mets had one hit in the series deciding game 3. After winning 101 games that was a massive failure.

And once again, the Marlins eliminated the Mets. Carlos Beltran said this: "Without Santana, we felt as a team that we had a chance to win in our division. With him now, I have no doubt that we are going to win in our division. I have no doubt in that. So this year, to Jimmy Rollins: We are the team to beat." Like Carlos Delgado put his foot in his mouth when he said, "We've got so much talent, I think sometimes we get bored", Beltran put his own foot in his mouth.

The greatest September collapse is by miles the 1964 Phillies, since they were 6 games up with 12 games to go. And remember, what makes this also the greatest collapse of all time is that back in 1964, there was no Division Series NOR LCS, so if the Phillies held on to that lead, they would have won the NL Pennant automatically and been in the World Series. When the 1995 Angels, 2007 Mets, 2011 Braves, 2011 RSOX, had their regular season collapse, it was for them to be in the Division Series. When the 1978 RSOX collapsed, it was for them to be in the ALCS.

Considering none of my other teams have even made it to a Superbowl(Jets) or Cup(Isles) in my lifetime, I’d say 4 years isn’t too big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. The Mets in 2007 played nicely in April and they played great in May, and they were looking like the Mets in 2006 But they were just a .500 team from June 01 till September 30, maybe even below .500 Many talk like the Mets in 2007 were a dominant team like in 2006, and that was NOT the case, especially after May 31. It still surprises me how the Mets in 2007 how such comfortable leads in the NL East at any points. I felt that the Braves and Phillies were better teams than the Mets in 2007 Mets in 2007 honestly overachieved. As for why they werent as dominant in 2007 like in 2006, many reasons = - Carlos Delgado wasnt that offensive force in 2007 like he was in 2006. Look at his numbers in 2007, especially in comparison to 2006 - David Wright had a HORRENDOUS April and he hit no home runs, as he was still trying to "recover" his swing after he lost it after the 2006 Home Run Derby. Remember how he struggled alot in the second half of the 2006 season and the 2006 postseason. Thankfully, Wright recovered starting in May 2007 for the best season of his career - Moises Alou, who was having a great season, spent many games of the season on the DL - Jose Valentin was not as great in 2007 like he was in 2006. Mets got Luis Castillo in late July and Castillo did well actually, but thats still many games with lack of offensive production from second base. Although Damion Easley and Ruben Gotay did well enough covering second base as well - Paul Lo Duca wasnt that offensive force with the contact hitting in 2007 like he was in 2006. In 2006, Lo Duca and Reyes made an amazing 1-2 combo in the lineup with Lo Duca hitting second, with Reyes getting on base with a single or double or triple in the first inning, and then Lo Duca with his great contact swing getting a hit and then the Mets were giving trouble to the opposing team on the first inning of a game with the heart of the lineup coming up. But Lo Duca was not sharp offensively in 2007 that Randolph would hit him in the bottom of the lineup - Mets top pitching prospect and top everyday player prospect were not developing as expected. Lastings Milledge and Mike Pelfrey - Mets bullpen in 2007 was very unreliable. Mets bullpen in 2006 was one of their strongest points. Again, Mets at no point during the 2007 season should have had a big lead on the division or the wild card.

This still isn't the biggest collapse in baseball history. I think the '64 Phillies and '69 Cubs are probably the two worst. The Phillies for losing a big lead so quickly, so late in the season and the cubs for losing 17 games in the standings in like 6 weeks. Stakes have to be included. Only 2 and 4 teams made the playoffs in those years. So you never know when you're going back. Now, with 8 and 10 teams, you have more chances. The 78 Red Sox are up there too.

but that's the problem, it was ONE game. all mets fans soon forget how well glavine pitched in the 2006 playoffs. glavine should never have been in that situation in the first place, the mets should have taken care of business weeks before this game. he became the wrongful scapegoat. glavine never said to the media "we have so much talent that sometimes we get bored", blame delgado for that embarrassing statement. the entire 07 mets were a disaster.

They had a 3 1/2 game lead on September 10, 2008. I don’t know if it was for the division or the wild card. But they blew that lead and the Brewers won the wild card. Obviously there was only one wild card spot until 2012. So the Mets lost out.

you can't blame solely glavine, he IS a fantastic pitcher...your team had a 7 game lead with 17 games to go, glavine didn't single handedly blow that lead. if perez had pitched that last game and blew it, it wouldn't be fair to tell him to "crawl in a hole and never come out"...blame the bum hitters who went ice cold for a 2 week stretch. they play EVERY DAY, not one of 5 games.

September games the losing teams always play spoiler to winning teams. Sure they have nothing to play for but teams like that always wanna send the winning playoff contending teams home.

i never said rollins wasnt a good player...i think hes great...but lets be real...if it wasnt for the mets collapse at the end the phillies would not have made the playoffs. Its just simple math. The Mets could not win in the end and they can blame it on whatever they want. I am a mets fan, but I am more of a baseball fan, and I know a true good team from a bad one, and the phillies are a good team...but last year they were also a very lucky team.

8 years later, the Curse of Omar Minaya continues. He will always be the prime culprit of the Mets' downward spiral into oblivion after firing Willie Randolph midseason in 2008 when the team was actually starting to win again.

***** I wouldn't play on Minaya that much. Minaya built a great Mets team throughout those years. It's the ownership in Fred Wilpon and during those years when they were involved in the Bernie Madoff scandal, it ruined this team's finances and they lost money because of it. Now this team has younger players developed and even though I don't think Alderson is a great GM, he's making this Mets team that's been waiting for about a couple of years with this young core of pitchers in Harvey,Degrom,Syndergaard, and other players to make this team relevant again. Here they are now. I'm a Yankee fan, but I do hope they get into October.
