i hate how people say that birds are stupid animals. they are definitely extremely smart, and lovable too! love you, snowball!
We take him to nursing homes as a form of therapy for the elderly, and he enjoys it in return. Irena Schulz
he is utter magic
I love this BIRD!!!
You are so right! When Snowball and I lock eyes during dancing, I can actually see him analyzing what we are doing. If he doesn't like the way we dance together, he pauses, analyzes, and changes his dance step/routine. There have been times when I've had a chill run up my spine because of his cleverness. I can't help but believe that humans are the most destructive species on earth...not necessarily the most intelligent. Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only Rescue
At the end he's like "hey, I ain't done danceing yet! Hey ladies!"
Yes, he is a riot. There is so much more to his personality than just the dancing. He is very rich in character! Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only Rescue
When there is an audience, I do dance along with him because he can be distracted by cameramen running around, laughter, applause, etc. When I am there to focus his attention on, then he becomes less distracted. During research experiments, I do not need to dance with him because there is nothing there to distract him from the music. I have music playing for him throughout the day and I will often find him dancing along when I walk in the room. Good question! Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only
@lantidis He does synchronize with me as well. However, we already ran the scientific studies that proved that he synchronizes to the beat when no one dances with him. We took the same song and sped it up in 5% increments. He adjust his dance moves to match the faster beats. Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only
lol I love how at the end he puts up one claw and bobs his head as if to say, "rock on!"
The interesting part about his dancing isn't that he just stays in beat with a tune, but that if you slow it down and speed it up he adjusts to match the tempo. I don't think we have a way of measuring the level of intelligence of one bird verses another at this point. All I can say is that I can see him thinking and analyzing when I look him in the eye while dancing. Every once in a while he does something that astounds me enough to give me goose bumps. Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only
Simply one of the best images of inocence, love and care that i ever seen! Congratulations!!!
no matter how sad i am...i have to see a video of snowball dancing and brings a smile to my face....
Snowball is great and congrats on his move into commercials. For anyone who doesn't know Erich Jarvis, he is a phenomonal scientist who is also a professionally trained dancer. When he graduated from high school he was offererd a chance to audition for the Alvin Ailley Dance Company but chose college and Neuroscience. He is still a great dancer who also studies avian communication. Fascinating man.
He's so talanted at keeping the beat with the stomps of his feet. And his head movment is halarious! You must have trained him very well for him to be such a talanted cockatoo!
Gods, he's adorable. Makes me miss my dearly departed bird something chronic.
Snowball is great...a beautiful and amazing bird...I loved you Snowball!...
Absolutely! People think I trained him to dance like this. He trained ME to dance! I follow his leads. Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only Rescue Service, Inc.
SNOWBALL DANCES TO HIS OWN BEAT AND DOES NOT NEED TO FOLLOW ANYONE. HE IS VERY SMART. ONE OF A KIND IN DANCING ABILITIES. WAY TO GO SNOWBALL!
That's a smart bird, he got all the humans to get up and dance! He is also a real show-off and a born entertainer!
@rosazone85 He does this ALLLLL the time at home. I dance with him until I'm about ready to drop from exhaustion, and then I think he just shakes his head in disgust at the fact that a human can't keep up with a bird! Irena Schulz
@SZSearcher Yes, he does dance on his own. We've walked in on him dancing to tunes on his multi-disc CD player. Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only Rescue
He is a charmer. And such a good performer.
I've been working with birds all my life and parrots in particular for 30 years. I have noted time and again their ability to analyze and think their way through situations that you know are not part of their normal environment. I especially love watching wild crows in a city environment. I now consider it a complement when someone calls me a bird brain.
I can't help it, whenever I see Snowball dance, I immediately start bopping along!
omg tears were poring form my eyes seeing all those people dance with snowball and snowball was hilarious at the end
@swrdgrl They never contacted us, but they did say that they enjoyed the video of him dancing to their song. :D
forget gold, forget platinum, that bird is in a class way above! I love Snowball!
Thank you for writing such a sweet post! I really do love this silly little guy. I enjoy watching him have a genuinely great time dancing. Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only Rescue
I love that he headbangs when he's delighted by something...
makes tears come to my eyes
It's great to see someone as knowledgeable as yourself to offer good advice to those who are thinking of acquiring a bird. Although you are correct in that it is important to treat a bird with love and respect in order for it to be well-adjusted, I have seen many birds relinquished to us who did receive this love and respect but turned on their owners because they left for vacation. There are many other examples, but I have limited space. Thank you so much for writing and sharing!!! Irena
The different birds have different life spans. For instance, a cockatiel's normal life span may be approx 20 years, a conure's usual life span may be approx 30 years, an amazon's usual life span may be approx 50 to 60 years. A cockatoo's usual life span is 65+ years. Usually, the larger the parrot, the longer the lifespan. Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only
Youre all sooo funny and loveable! Thank you so much for the videoes and the performance - bless you :)
OMG he is still dancing! Go Snowball Go!
During our rehearsal Irene Pepperberg came up with the brilliant idea of having everyone dance along with Snowball. Erich Jarvis seconded that motion! And I got to sit next to Faith Sallie, a great actress and remarkable human being! Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only Rescue Service, Inc.
I love that SO much! Snowball is such a ham, great attention getter towards the end. A real showbird to be sure! :)
Irene Pepperberg certainly holds her own! She was the one that came up with the idea to have everyone stand up and dance with Snowball. So she has a great sense of humor to boot! Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only Rescue Service, Inc.
Lovely upload.
I think I found the new dance instructor for my Cockatoo and Macaw. LOL Such a riot, I love it. Cockatoo's are a special breed, so loving and affectionate. Mine has actually taught my Macaw to be more affectionate. They share the same cage and are best friends, My Macaw will swing back and forth to dance, but I am very impressed with Snowball.
YEAH !!! Snowball is still rockin the world!!!
I have the utmost respect for parrots. They are so human-like in their emotions and behaviors. They also have the intelligence of a five year old child. But imagine a 5 year old with a beak that can generate a pressure of 2000 psi and can snap a broomstick in half. They are also very needy and very demanding of attention. I adore parrots, but they are not for everyone...and even I find myself overwhelmed at times. Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only
ahhh love him, glad he has a better life, i think i read he was rescued like the others? your doing a good job.
Snow Ball You rock!!!
I love this video! Snowball has everyone so trained! :D
Wow that bird knows how to bask in the glow ;D
I loved the way that Snowball upstaged everyone at the end. I am still laughing.
Rock it, Snowball! Rock it!!
Absolutely FANTASTIC!!! A penny for Dr. Pepperberg's thoughts...
Yes. There have been scientific papers written about it. The lead scientist on the study, Dr. Ani Patel, came here to witness this for himself. He adjusts his dancing to the tempo of the music without anyone dancing with him. Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only Rescue Service, Inc.
irena just keeps dancing! it's like she's on a loop! haha, i love snowball, and irena!
GOOD thing the bird has rhythm...LOL
I love Snowball's dancing.....hahahaha! :)
Snowball's one in a million, I tell ya
snowball rocks the house!!!!
Did you see the big bird on the back dancing as well
last 30 seconds... almost pissed myself! Snowball rocks!!
I wish i had this great bird...
Irene Pepperberg was on the panel. She was one of the scientists dancing...not bad I must add! Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only Rescue Service, Inc.
Snowball, you're the best! I love the headbanging bow you take at the end. Maybe you can teach my 'Too and I how to dance?
Snowball Rocks!
that's freakin' awesome!!!x3
Watching your videos makes me want to get my own parrot.. they seem like beautiful creatures! Had one when i was 4 years old, but it's all a bit vague then :) My mum is allergic to cats, so i guess this might be a good option.. hehe Hilarious video though.. playing to the crowd at the end :D
snowball is funny and loves the attention, lol!!
Maybe not all that well appreciated by some, He's STILL very talented. Love and kisses 2 him!!!
No training at all. He just loves to dance to music. When we travel, I dance with him because he is easily distracted by strange people nearby, lights, cameras, audiences. He focuses on me and is able to get into the music and not think about any strange people or objects around him. You should see Snowball in person...his dancing is only one part of his incredible personality! Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only Rescue
@loley1901 Yes, he is very unique...
@MegaAloha1234 Yes, the BSB have seen Snowball's videos.
I would have LOVED to have taken him on her show. Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only
heeee is awesomeee... ic ried tears of laughing :p great!!!
Irena, I will have to correct you on this one. Many parrots will bond to one person only, but it's been my experience that many parrots will bond with multiple people if it is treated with loving kindness and full fill the need of the parrot. Our Umbrella Cockatoo Angel treats my wife and I and our son as part of his flock and makes the rounds every day going to each one of us for attention.
Wooowww, amazing, isn't it?
Snowball is awesome, a closeup of the bird would have been a good thing.
I've seen a number of videos with dancing parrots, but Snowball is the first I've seen that actually seems to stay in beat with the music. Does Snowball have a hire level of intelligence than most Cockatoos?
Snowball is hosting a dance-a-thon fundraiser for needy children. We are raising money to purchase clothes and toys for them for Christmas. Please go to the Bird Lovers Only Rescue blog for more details. SNOWBALL NEEDS SPONSORS! Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only
what a crack up at the end , FUNNY AS personality!!!
Talk about a cherry video. Sure changed my blue day to a sunny one. Thanks so much Irena. ANd Dr. Pepperberg still has moves !!!!!!
amazing bird lol at least evryone is having fun =D
SNowball RULES!!
Yes, he dances on his own. Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only Rescue Service, Inc.
@NinjaPr00 No, he has never asked to have him back. But he does come to visit once in a while. Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only Rescue
need to get that bird a midi trigger perch so he can play his own grooves! Imagine if he could play with his feet and beak!
:? What's so scientific about dancing? Anyone can see that Snowball's just having fun (and that he is a total ham-bone)! Thanks for posting this!
awesome head banging!!! metalheads you eat his dust!!!!
2:48 ahahhaha I love that xD
I would love to see snowball on "dancing with the stars" or "so you think you can dance"
Pepperberg's really getting into it! :-)
hahahaha nice snowball is amazing
wow!!! that is so funny!
snowball rocks
How incredibly sweet! Makes me think a lot of how much we possibly are destined to act as united lifeforms in a common way ... no scienceless romanticism intended here. And, of course, a big big applause to Irena, who shows us more than an idea.
tht bird is a riot!
2:47 Snowball is a Rocker :O)
@2020wonderbred You've got THAT right! Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only Rescue
Parrots bond to one person and consider that favorite person their "mate." This is why it wants nothing to do with other people. Birds are very different from cats, dogs, and other animals. They are loyal to their mate and no one else. Parrots are very sociable and friendly to more people when they are babies, but as they go through adolescence and sexually mature they become very selective of who they want to be with. Some tolerate other people while some will literally attack others.
omg I cried from laugh XD
