"Snow Problem, No Problem"--Don Bluth University Final Short by Camryn Perry

Фильм және анимация

Traditionally animated short-film about a young mammoth running into trouble while babysitting a neanderthal toddler. Special thank you to Don Bluth and Don Bluth University staff for helping me develop the skills to make this short film a reality.

    This is absolutely beautiful animation! You're carrying on the legacy of Walt Disney and Don Bluth perfectly. This animation had so much character to it. Very well done!

    This is like "Ice Age" and "A Troll In Central Park" put together. If only this animated movie was made instead of both those movies.

    Nice work, Camryn! That's one of the best I've seen from Don's classes, and one of the few finals that were actually completed! (I'm a former student of his class as well!) :D

    it's at the same time cute and endearing, but I'm also watching this terrified over what could happen to the girl. it's kind of emotionally unique and a good premise for a disney style movie where the mammoth reluctantly sees a lost girl home while growing increasingly fond of her.

    Wow! That is some really excellent work. I'm curious... what parameters, if I any, did Mr. Bluth give for the final? Were there "rules" to follow, or just do whatever type of story you wanted?

    Hi there!! Don let us have a ton of freedom for the final! The only stipulation was that the short needed a beginning, middle, and end, and that it must contain a funny ‘gag’ or two. He also preferred us to keep the short around 15 seconds, as most students would find it difficult to finish that much animation in 8 weeks. However, he kindly gave me permission to go a little over the limit when I told him I thought I could manage it. He’s really a wonderful teacher-if you’re considering the program, I highly recommend it. I was totally a beginner at the start of the class, and now I feel as if I can animate fairly competently!!

    I would recommend to have to some pretty good drawing/draftmanship skills! While I had never really animated much before DBU, I did have a lot of experience with not only cartoon drawing, but life drawing in general. On the other hand, don’t be afraid to join if you are still a beginner artist! Don will teach you a lot about drawing in the first part of the class. I saw some of my peers go from beginner artists to really competent animators. Don is just an awesome teacher all around and I totally recommend him!

    I think if you found a few more people like yourself, you could replace disney. If you had 20 solid animators, and it took 8 weeks per minute of animation, then thats 1 hour every 24 weeks. 2 full movies a year

  • @doomermario

    @doomermario

    if people let go of the concept of money and lived soley for art it would be easily possible. People can live on 3$ a day (eggs, potatoes, bananas). So find the artists and get them to save up $1000 that should cover the year. But the place where they'd work together would be the tricky part because a rich man would have to own the land and build a place to house the monks.
