If you're looking for things to do while on vacation, give snorkeling a try.
For the best snorkeling, I'd recommend going with a scuba dive company. You don't need to be a certified diver to go snorkeling. The spots will be the best and the amount of time in the water will be the best.

I'd recommend bringing your own good quality mask, snorkel and fins wherever you go. And bring no fog spray just in case it's not provided.

The Catamaran tour by XCarat was fun and it was nice to see an explore Isla Mujeres but we didn't get a lot of snorkeling time. The snorkeling was just outside of Cancun. I think this was because they don't allow you to get in the water if you've been drinking and serving drinks on the boat ride was their way of making sure everyone was having a good time, so they got the snorkeling out of the way early.

XelHa was a fun experience all around but the snorkeling was mediocre. The water wasn't very clear in some areas, as it seemed like there was a layer of algae and mixing fresh and salt water. But the beauty of the surroundings, cenotes and other activities kept us busy. If fact we were too busy to take it all in in one day. You might want to plan some strategy if you want to get the most out if in one day.

We stayed at Hacienda Tres Rios. They had snorkeling and diving guides at the resorts beach. They took us on a short boat ride to get there from the resort, but I don't recall the name of the reef. It was maybe 10 minutes north.

Nice helpful video with pricing too. I guess you didn't have time to try snorkeling much off of Isla Mujeres. I hear there are a couple of spots there. Our best snorkeling was at Yal Ku but have not tried Xel Ha or the reef off Playa del Carmin. Thanks

I'd love to check out Yal Ku. I'll have to look that up. We didn't snorkel off Isla Mujeres but we got to do a dive there and it's probably my favorite dive spot yet. No, it was a boat ride to the reef. At the end of the video, I tried at the beach, and visibility was awful.
Not sure what's going on in your narration but it sounds like you're underwater most of the time.
