I'm so glad you did this review as I saw Derrick 's dish arrive 4 shrimp and a piece of flounder and asparagus I thought he had ordered an appetizer plate or a child's plate. Then when I saw the total of your bill I quickly wondered if you had mentioned anything to management because it just looked like a huge mistake, price wise and portion wise. Shawnasi's dish looked great and sounded from her description that it was good and valued correctly. Great honest review, thank you!!

I had to laugh at what you said, about getting the child's plate. That's exactly what it looked like...lol! My first reaction was just stunned. Especially since I had just read the words "generous portion" on the menu. I'm thinking I'm about to get a really good deal. I did not say anything to the management last night, but there are rare occasions where we actually send our video review to them so that they can watch and see what we liked and didn't like. This will be one of those rare occasions. They need to understand that their menu is very deceptive in the way it's worded, for what you actually get.

I agree. The food was good, but it was not good enough to justify the small portion on my plate, for the money they charged. I'm happy to provide this review to save others from being taken. You are right....There are other good options in town, that give you a better deal.

Honesty is the best policy! You were on point with your review of that particular meal. When I first saw your plate, I thought, Derrick is not gonna be pleased with the portion size ! Shawnasi's , like you said, plate was priced fair for what she got. If the restaurant did make a mistake and gave you a smaller plate than what you ordered, the waiter should have noticed that and brought it to your attention. I guess people would have to get all 4 items to get the GENEROUS portion? We loved Shawnasi's right eyebrow raise and look she gave you, jokingly of course at the 5:53 mark, when you joked about blackened food,lol!

Yeah, I had to throw that little jab in here. She was blackening food before blackened food became a thing...LOL. Yeah, that portion size was not good. I've been trying to go with portion sizes that are smaller a lot lately, but not still paying premium dollar for them.

I thought the same thing when I saw your portion...thought it looked like an appetizer. Beautiful place though.

What I expect, is a "generous portion", when the menu claims it is a "generous portion". But I still don't know where you got that the prices aren't on the menu. Really not sure why you would make that comment, without actually looking at it first.

nice review, we have eaten here several times, never upper deck yet, always full. but good food also. staff has always been great, amazing views, and we love cherry grove. have tried snookies in LR also, views are good, just different. both places great. fish tacos are great, totally agree for the price yours was skimpy

We actually drove out to the one in Little River several years ago, but I don't remember now why we left. It might have been the long wait time. I didn't have any complaints about the quality of the food. Just that portion size was ridiculously small on mine.

I have contacted them to see if they feel this was a fair portion. I rarely do that, but before I spend money there again like that, I at least want to see if they will acknowledge that this wasn't correct. Thanks for watching.

I worked in the food industry (restaurant) for many years. That portion, to me, looked like an appetizer. The price you paid for what you got doesn’t measure up. I’m glad it at least tasted good. Maybe problems in the kitchen (you never know) Bejng a server myself, I would have noticed the small portion and probably the look on your face/demeanor and made a point to ask you how everything was. I have been known to go in the kitchen and bring out extra (or stick order ticket in window for more) if I felt something was not up to par. Having said that, I am both, easy hard to wait on. I understand the process (kitchen/staff), but I also know what I expect. People sometimes think when it’s not busy, service should be better. Not the case for me (ADD) the busier, the better because my mind didn’t have time to wonder … lol I’m glad guys give REAL reviews. That is how it should be ;)

Thank you for watching, and for commenting. You have a lot of insight on how things work. Yes, I really felt that was a very small and inadequate portion size for what they were charging. I think the part that got me the most, is the menu clearly says "generous portion". To me, that bordered on false advertising. I did send them a message with the link to the video, and I'm interested to see if they will reach out. I don't know how they can justify charging that amount for that piddling amount of food. I am somebody who doesn't like to complain and would rather find the positives, but I'm going to point out what's what, and this one needed pointing out.

I agree with you on the portion size , I always eat in Calabash if I stay in North Myrtle and Murrell's Inlet if I stay in Myrtle beach

We love going to Calabash, as well. In fact, we will be having lunch there tomorrow before we leave to come home. We just wanted to try some new things for some new reviews.

I thought Derrick was on some kind of diet when I saw his plate of food. Must have ordered off the kids menu by mistake. Just kidding and hope you have a great weekend.

I love your honest reviews. The asparagus looked overcooked. We are finding so may restaurants are serving food barely warm. You should have said something about portion size, don’t be afraid to complain you are paying too much not too. Keep those reviews coming.

I meant to say my experience was at the Little River location.

First thing I noticed was the noise level in the restaurant. It seems like beach restaurants can be quite loud from our experiences. This restaurant was actually recommended to us. It makes it worse when you see other plates and they have bigger portions than what you got. You did shock us when you said you would try Snooky's again! Definitely a fair review.

The only reason I would possibly do it again, is because her portion was adequate, and because the burger sounded so good. I actually saw someone else with a burger, and it looked like it was adequate. I don't know if it was the one with the crab meat on it, but I did send them a copy of the link to this review, and outlined in a message what I thought was wrong with what I received. I'm interested to see if they will respond back. I've only done that a handful of times. But the fact that their menu said that it was a generous portion, I felt needed to be addressed. What do you all think of the portion size of my plate? I'm just curious. Several people have commented that it looked like a child's plate.

@@NCMemoryMakers It will be interesting if you hear something back or not. You know when you do a Tripadvisor or Google Review that most of the time management will say something back to your comment. So it will be interesting if they email you back. I compared your portion size to what I got at Hoskins. I got the large portion of Flounder and Shrimp for about the same price and it had 2 pieces of flounder. That is actually why I got the large so David could have a piece of the flounder. Your flounder was not what I would consider a generous portion.

That was not enough food to fill a thimble have fun be safe God bless you both

Those portion sizes made me think of a quote from Jeff Pruitt on the Andy Griffith Show. That's not enough food to get skinny on.

I know seafood is kinda expensive but the portion size seems small for what you had to pay. The place was loud too. Thanks for the review.

You are very welcome, and you are correct, that the place was loud. Her portion was pretty adequate, but mine was very small, for what it cost. You are correct.

We haven’t been to Snooky’s Oceanfront but have tried their waterfront location in Little River. After the 3rd visit we said we were done, food was always hit or mostly miss, lukewarm, delivery from the kitchen was way off. For close to $100 per visit we decided to go to much better restaurants. Sorry Snooky’s wish you were better too

I completely agree. While I can't complain about my wife's portion, mine was ridiculous. I have never been charged so much for so little. And the sad part is, Snooky's doesn't seem to care that their menu falsely represents it as a "generous portion". We went to Eugene Platt's Seafood (carry out only), and got a HUGE amount of food for under $20.00. There are just so many better options. The view is what Snooky's has going for it. But I will not return unless they reach back out.

I felt that my portion was one of the smallest I've ever been served, after paying that much.

The only thing nice about this place is the view, that's it. I have ate their twice. First time food was cold, portion sizes were so small. Second time we were sitting outside on the main floor, it started storming, they told us to move upstairs. But we had to move our menu's, drinks, etc. ourselves. For...you guessed it, more cold food and small portions. The people seated next to us were complaining about their food. You only go there for the view, but the price for cold food and small portions is probably not worth the view. NMB has meh food. Try Blueberry's Grill for breakfast.

We have already talked about going to Blueberry Grill for breakfast some trip. We've looked at it, and it looks very nice. We just don't go out for breakfast a whole lot. Maybe a couple of times a year. But hopefully, we can try that place pretty soon. Yes, I tend to agree with you about this place. The view is about what it has to offer. I have never had a smaller portion size for that much money, in my life. I actually reached out to them and gave them the link to the video, and simply asked them if they thought that I received a fair portion, and if they thought it was okay to serve that size portion, when their menu says "generous portion". I have also emailed them. They have not so much as even given me a reply, so I can take that to mean that they do not care about return customers, or customer satisfaction. They depend on tourists who are eating there for the first time. So, we have made a note of that, and we are letting people know through this channel, how they do business. I do not like to do things like that, and have only had to do that maybe two or three times in our entire lives. But I did feel it was warranted this time.

@@NCMemoryMakers I am not a breakfast person either I would rather just eat oatmeal at home, but do enjoy Blueberry's when I am in town. I also like Hoskins I was going to rec them but looks like you all have been there. Flounder is what I always get there, too. I have yet to go there when there is not a long line. Even getting there at 3:45 on a Wed, there is already a line. And if you have a big party, forget about it. They have the extra room in the back but still this place was designed for parties of 2, 4 max. Whenever I am in line waiting to go in there is always locals in line I chat up with. Usually if you go to a place with all the locals it is pretty good. Whereas Snooky's clients are 95% out of towners who want "a place with a view" and don't care about quantity or quality, just as the restaurant owners don't care either. I can't imagine what a waitress at these establishments brings in in a week in the summer because they are always slammed by out of towners with money to blow. I am not surprised you did not hear back, that's just how the ppl that run those establishments are. If you are ever in Charleston try Codfather, one of my faves in SC.

Just saw the video… “generous portion???” Lol. “A joke” was the perfect adjective for that presentation. At least your scenery was good!

Two of my pet peeves cold food and small portions. I don’t think I would be back sounds like a three strike deal. Cold small and rude. Too many good places around there that deserve the patronage to support those who do not.

In one way, I do agree. I guess I'm just trying to look at the entire picture, in that her meal was probably worth what it cost. I can't say our server was rude. I was just kind of surprised when he did that with the ticket. He was pretty efficient the rest of the time. Not overly friendly or full of personality, but I can't say he was ever rude. I'm not really sure why he just dropped the ticket on the table and walked off. I had not said anything to him about my dissatisfaction with the portion size. And when we did hand him the folder with the money inside, he thanked us and told us to have a good night. Maybe he was just busy and not thinking. I have actually sent a copy of the video link to them, to see if they look at it and reach out. I don't anticipate that they will, but I at least want to give them the chance to do so. They really need to remove the words "generous portion" off of that menu item. And that's what I told them in the message I sent them. Thanks for watching!
