on the other hand side is useful for positional plays so why not just account for all these effects in your overall play

Agree, I always use inside English and aim it slightly thinner when having more difficult shots (it's easier too when it comes to thin shots since it hits from the side rather than from the front side, the only problem it might be miss to hit the object ball if you hit it too thin, but it'd never happened to me lol), and not outside English as most people would suggest... Idk why'd people prefer to use outside English (I know the reason why, but I just think it's much harder and more missable if you somehow managed to hit it too thick and hit the jaw, but if you use inside spin, it won't be a problem if you just slightly miss it and hit the jaw, it could still goes in, or at least for me, theoretically lol) though hmmmm... I use outside English when the object ball is near or stick to the cushion, or when I want to cheat the pocket a littel bit and let the ball slide alongside the cushion...

i understand the side spin physics in this. I'm wondering if backspin/topspin also affect the impact throw? I feel like backspin over cuts and topspin straightens my shots, but may just be rubbish at playing :-) edit: you literally say in the next sentence that topspin drags it wide lol
