If you can count, you can play this game. I know elementary school adding is tough for some people but it's really not that complicated. This video also does a poor job of explaining it and gets some things wrong. Plus, any game that has every single rule said all at once sounds complicated. Also, the best way to learn a game is to play it or watch it being played, not read the rulebook. If you start a new board game you've never played, you just jump in and people explain it to you as you play. Watch a game of snooker on KZread and it'll be obvious after about 3 shots how the game works. Imagine if a video like this was made for the NFL rulebook. We'd be here for 4 hours and everyone would think American football was the most complex game on Earth. I'll explain snooker in 4 sentences. The object is to make all the red balls which are worth 1 point each. After every red make, you can pick one of the colored balls, worth 2-7 points, to make as a bonus to add to your score. When all the reds are made, make all the colored balls in ascending order. Once all the balls are made, the person with the highest score wins. That's not so hard, is it? And I'm assuming you can add single digit numbers in your head, right? You know what the score is if a team has 13 points and makes a touchdown, right? That's as complex as snooker math gets. The rest of the rules in this video are the same as 8 and 9 ball pool. Don't jump balls off the table, don't double kiss, hit the object ball first, only touch the cue ball with your stick, ect By the way, I'm American, too. Y'all are making us look like dummies in front of our British cousins. "This game has adding. It's so hard! Who would ever want to add during a game?" Grow up. Sheesh. Complain about this but then happily figure out field goals, touchdowns, extra points, and safeties, all of which are worth different amounts of points. Think of the red balls as the main goal, like making a touchdown. Then the colored balls are like after a touchdown, you choose if you want to go for 2 or kick a PAT. You can choose which colored ball you want to make after making a red.

This video is awful. I stopped halfway through and watched another “how to play snooker” YT video, and it was much easier to understand and with a lot less irrelevant crap. It isn’t actually that complicated a game…don’t judge it by a poorly-made video.

Great instructions. Thanks. I’ve always been interested in learning this game. Now I need to watch it again, and again, and , yeah… again.

The main point to remember is its red ball then a colour ball. When all reds have gone all thecoloured balls are potted in a certain order This order stays the same in every game. The hard part is the fact that the table is 12ft by 6ft so its substantially bigger than a pool table. So its seriously harder to pot balls.

A perfect game for those working on their Masters in Mathematics or Physics.

As an Englishman watching this, you made it sound way harder than it is. Plus you forgot to mention that any ball potted as a free ball is only worth 1 point. The snooker part of the game is the most exciting part, it's awesome to watch when someone is so far behind and all the remaining points on the table still isn't enough, but they repeatedly snooker the opponent into a foul and collect enough 4 point fouls to end up winning the game

OK this bothered me way to much to simply ignore. It's Snooker, not Snuker Much like how it's pool and not pul...

My friend really insisted on taking me to snooker club but I was like..“ No bro, this game looks way too complicated" but I had to go since he came toy house to invite me. And when I played like literally the first shot, I obviously was only able to touch the red ball but the joy and excitement that came to me hooked me to this game and here I am at the club on Monday alone practicing my skills for my next game in which loser pays the money Edit: Also, 2:04 RIP physics

I noticed your post is from a year ago so sorry. For betting for monies, what ive found is people are more willing to fight over a money bet than a drink. Whenever i used to hustle pool id always say "if you are to win, what drink would you want" and depending what the price of the drink was that theyd want if they won, id match them with a same priced drink or maybe even a little less. When betting for a drink even their own friends/ party are usually like "hey man its just a drink" but for monies, people would try and fight me over a 5 dollar money bet, mrehhh. im just there to have a fun time and keep my fucking pool table lol

I love how he just says a snooker table casually, it costs a fortune to get a proper snooker table and you will want a professional to set it up right (underneath the felt is large slates and the table itself has to be level)

@@surveyguyor8958 It would literally be insanity if players were expected to remember the score, there's a score chart on the wall next to every snooker table making it easy to keep track of the score. The rules are very easy, this video just explains them very poorly.

I’ve actually played snooker (digitally) in the Alex Rider DS game. There is an entire chapter of the book Stormbreaker dedicated to Alex and Sayal playing a game of Snooker, but the movie didn’t have that game. So it was a pleasant surprise that the DS has a full on Snooker game available to play.

I'll stick to 8 ball pool

Went to a place that had a huge pool room: 6 pool tables and 1 snooker table, hanging on the wall was a print out of snooker play instructions & rules. We tried playing a few rounds but gave up, the rules on paper are quite complicated (visual demonstration would have been handy) but the bigger issue was the huge difference in table vs ball design. For those who have never seen a full size legal snooker table it's huge with small+long openings to the pockets. I'd say the balls are 20% smaller than legal pool balls and the table is 50% larger than legal pool tables. Getting the balls into the pockets requires pretty direct shots or any ball headed that direction is going to bounce tight out since the bumpers surrounding the pockets do you few favors..... We thought we'd make things easier by using pool balls and just playing pool rules but that's when we found out that the pool balls are large and the pockets are nearly a tight fit to the smaller snooker balls making the pool balls incompatible. So we left the snooker table to collect dust lol Now having seen a visual instruction on how to play the game I've lost what little interest I had been retaining. Awfully ironic that trick shots and any circumstance of the balls leaving the table are illegal yet one of the punishments is to make a shot with both feet OFF the floor??

You can't do intentional jump shots but you can legally swerve the ball, he was trying to say having both feet off the ground is a foul, the rule is you have to have at least one foot on the ground when playing a shot, there is no punishment where you have to play a shot with both feet off the ground, all you have to know about Snooker is that it's super easy, just pot a red, then any other colour, repeat 15 times then pot all the coloured balls in the correct sequence, game over, couldn't be any simpler really.

I much prefer to play snooker than numbered pool balls. I owned both and snooker was much more strategic and overall more fun than regular pool. Having both I almost never touched the pool balls.

Did you play billiards using the official rules of billiards? Because almost nobody knows the actual rules and the vast majority of people are playing a form of billiards that is a VERY loose interpretation of what billiards is actually supposed to be. The real rules for official billiards make for a far more strategic and interesting experience than the dumbed down version everyone is playing in bars.

It's a grand game, I think. The major difficulty is the table (for us 8-ball Neanderthals): Six feet by twelve feet regulation sizes actually dwarfs our 4-1/2 by 9 pool tables. (I don't consider the five feet by 10 feet tables actual snooker!) The pockets are smaller than our regular pockets and the edges are rounded off so that balls HAVE TO enter the middle to score! A fascinating game for serious players. LOVE IT!

@@cooldude1022 There IS an advantage to the fact that players don't have to "hit a rail" with either cue ball or object ball, but the scratch or foul penalties come in fours! The hardest thing for me to understand was the "free ball" system!

@@cooldude1022 Well, in regular pool games, either the object ball or the cue ball HAS to hit a rail to avoid a foul. Not in snooker. In regular pool games the penalty for scratching or missing the object ball is loss of turn. In snooker the opponent gets 4 points. (I thought you knew that) I just saw something new - and learned - in a game between Trump and Peng! The cue ball was touching a red on Judd's turn and instead of bouncing the cueball off the red, he hit the pink six directly! I knew one could shoot away from the red without striking it, but shooting at a color ball !!

I was thinking the same thing as I watched this. It seems so obvious - I don’t get why they don’t use numbered balls.

One rule I have not seen here or anywhere else. Question you're shooting for the red ball. It goes in or doesn't. You accidentally sink the blue ball during this shot. The blue ball has to come back up but do you lose 5 points? At 4:21 it comes close to answering my question, but not quite on the head.

Im a former pool hustler and still try even now somedays if i have extra monies to try and win free drinks, but holy damn. Even though this was a dumbed down way of explaining the rules, shits still confusing. Thankfully our local pool hall has a snooker table so ill get my buddy to teach me IRL. Always been interested but damn its kinda confusing as opposed to bar rules and BCA rules whewee

Gets the point of that color. That's why if the higher point balls are good chance to pot the player choses the free ball or if the snooker is too easy 👍🏼

A free ball is a worth the value of the lowest valued ball left on the table e.g. if there are any red balls on the table a free ball is worth one point, if all the reds have been potted a free ball is worth the same amount of points as the next ball to be potted, e.g. if the blue is the lowest scoring ball left on the table a free ball is worth 5 points, but it's VERY rare to get free balls when there aren't many balls left on the table.

He was saying it's a foul to play with both feet off the ground, the rule is you have to have at least one foot on the ground when playing every shot.

I'm gonna be completely honest, this explanation made it harder to understand than just going and watching a game right after. There are a number of places, but most egregiously at 4:10 where your pauses between words and statements are incredibly unnatural and cause confusion. It wasn't clear at all at what point you switched from explaining what a foul was, to listing all the types of fouls. It had been WAY too long since you mentioned it would be a list, and then immediately went into an explanation that was NOT a list, so you absolutely needed to restate it when the list actually started. In addition, the pauses between situations in that list are also confusing and erratic, making some of the foul situations seem to blend together. I know I'm being overtly critical of an informative video, but it's especially frustrating when you're trying to learn something, and the language/speech used in the explanation is as unclear as this. After watching one other video, then this one, then an actual game, I understood it perfectly, and I actually think it's a very cool game. PLEASE be more concise with your language, because if I was confused by it, there's undoubtedly a lot more people who don't realize they were confused by it.

Yeah as an American I don't get it either. The only real issue I see is having a room with a table large enough to play it, then again you could always go to a billiards hall. Then again these are games for normies, so that's why darts and pool are popular because they're more casual.. hence why they're so popular because they're approachable.

I tried, I really tried to listen to this but every ridiculous mispronunciation of “snooker” was like fingernails on the blackboard. Literally no one in the history of the world has ever said it so it rhymes with booker. The oo is a long sound like in moon.
