Sniper Elite VR is Nuts

Ойындар

Sniper Elite VR is a new VR game. I know, I didn't think new VR games existed anymore. I thought Virtual Reality was just over, no more new VR games. But here we are, a new VR game, actual new content and Sniper Elite VR is a good start. It's only 30 bucks, which kind of bums me about a bit. Reviews of Sniper Elite VR are kind of saying the same thing. Everyone is all mixed up after release. Should you buy Sniper Elite VR is a tough question to answer honestly. But fortunately for me, I'm not trying to let you know whether or not you should buy Sniper Elite VR. I'm just trying to make you exhale forcibly from each nostril because you found something 50% funny.

    My guess for triple a devs generally making worse VR games is that they are most testing the waters of VR so they don't put a huge budget. Unless you are valve and have infinite money

    that is true for AAA devs because they have the expectations to make huge expansive games no matter what platform is on. if someone asked for assassins' creed in vr, they would want a full assassins' creed in vr and not some watered down version. indie devs are allowed to make better games because they don't have audience expectation or issues with investors suggesting they should sensor or make something entirely different than what is envisioned by the creators. I feel like more AAA developers will jump into making vr games once vr becomes more accessible to people with competitors of Facebook, quality jumps for games that aren't valve titles or pc restricted and vr is seen as more as a gaming thing rather than the theme park experiences most people would see at disney land or some big themed amusement park

    I feel there are two eras in VR. Before Half-Life Alyx/Boneworks and after Half-Life Alyx/Boneworks. Releasing a game like this after boneworks/alyx just makes it feel 3 years outdated. It's not MoH bad, but it is painfully mediocre.

    the AAA look at vr and realise they need the graphics toned down for it to run and cartoon graphics adapt very well to being low end without looking awful, its why all nintendo games are cartoony, they run easy on low end hardware. I blame the quest 2 for this, its a portable so AAA assume they have to do the same as nintendo do on their portables

  • @evolicious

    Also, this game was designed for the PSVR, which is hardly-considered "real VR" system due to the lack of presence and basic standard VR features. Every PSVR game ported to PCVR has been absolute garbage.

  • @quinnmarchese6313

    @quinnmarchese6313

    2 жыл бұрын

    what are you even saying? are you saying that developers using cleaner, "more cartoonish" graphics for a low end system is a bad thing or a good thing? because its not a pure, portable, low end hardware necessity, VR requires a much more powerful GPU than you'd think, it runs two screens at a resolution equating to somewhere between 1440p and 2160p (4K) and it has to do it at 72-120 fps. My RX570 and Ryzen 5 2600X can run Assassins Creed Odyssey at its highest settings at 1080p fine but add on top of the world scale, model quality, the necessary bump to resolution and frame rate, CPU processes for headset motion tracking, processes for motion controller tracking (if you go that route), and any motion sickness countermeasures needed, and you suddenly have a version of AC Odyssey that weighs about 5-10 Gbs heavier, and uses MUCH more GPU time to account for the VR frame rate, resolution, and FOV. The quest 2 isn't a powerful device, but it packs more into its price point than any competitor right now, simple fact. You can play it like its a standalone console, and games like Walking Dead Saints and Sinners work wonderfully without any PC tethering, but the added PC tethering, you have essentially the most consumer friendly PC VR experience

  • @quinnmarchese6313

    @quinnmarchese6313

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@evolicious im a pc gamer full on but my console of choice has always been the playstation. I honestly really respect PSVR for what it was. Right when VR was getting steam, Sony made the most consumer friendly VR setup at the time. Whereas the oculus and vive setups required essentially the most powerful hardware at the time AND cost 500-600 bucks, the PSVR was a way for plebs like myself to see what the fuss was about. You dont need the best bells and whistles with a VR set to get why its such a cool thing, all you need is to see how head tracking immerses you, how the 3D improves depth, and how terrifying Resident Evil 7 was. VR is way better now than it was then but PSVR was a beginners set, all you needed was the headset and a base PS4 and bam, you now had semi-competent VR! Lets also not ignore how genius Sony was in reusing the Playstation Move architecture for PS VR. They took a failed concept, and was smart enough to repurpose that technology.
