Snickers Work Trousers - 2017 Workwear Range

Sponsored by Snickers.

Roger Bisby takes a closer look at the Next Generation Trousers from Snickers including: RuffWork, LiteWork, FlexiWork & AllroundWork.
When you look at the huge range of styles and sizes that Snickers currently offers you might reasonably ask why they need to produce a whole new Next Generation Trouser range. Fashion undoubtedly plays a part, even for a builder who declares himself to be totally uninterested in fashion, but underneath the good looks lies a solid bed of functionality that has helped Snickers stay ahead of the competition throughout its history. This is no mean feat because they are copied relentlessly and they certainly aren't the cheapest. So how do they manage to stay ahead of the competition?
It is a question I first started asking a few years ago when I was doing some independent research into the workwear market. Whenever I was out on site testing tools and materials I took the opportunity to quiz people on their choice of workwear. Most of the building trades I spoke to declared a preference for Snickers even if they didn't actually buy them. With few exceptions they acknowledged that it is a superior product and one that everyone has heard of. The only resistance is the price. People told me that they would like to have Snickers but didn't want to pay that kind of money for a pair of work trousers. The implication is that they would then have something nice that they didn't want to trash and it would worry them. That said they rarely went to the other end of the scale so they would end up in the middle. So what I was hearing was that it wasn't the whole price it was just the extra bit between a pair of trousers that they knew weren't as good and the ones they really wanted. After tax the difference might be as little as £20.00 I even spoke to one young man who had bought three pairs of cheaper (but not cheap ) trousers and the zips went on all three. He actually had his flies done up with a safety pin which is a hazardous item if you are in a hurry.
By contrast, I also met many people, from various trades, who wouldn't even consider buying anything other than Snickers. If there is a typical Snickers customer it is probably those people who are instinctively in tune with the idea that you simply have to pay for quality. It costs money to make something that is going to last. It is something they are telling their customers ever day. They won't be the cheapest quote out there but the job will be right.

Snickers trousers are some of my favourites- very comfortable and easy to wash and dry. Complete convert to the front flap pockets for tape measure and pencils etc. Not cheap - but you always get what you pay for.

Great video. I really like the innovation of this work wear. Here in the US you'd get laughed off the job site if you showed up with a "Snickers" logo on your trou. That said I'll run that risk. Comfort and functionality outweigh tradition.

Big Papi Only just seen these comments. They don't always notify us. I know what you mean about the logo and when you look back to early Snickers trousers they took a lot of nerve to wear anywhere. People don't believe me now but in 1976, when the U.K had a really hot summer, I decided to wear shorts to work and the guys wolf whistled and laughed their heads off. Years later it is commonplace. Wear your Snickers with pride.

I concur Roger, I've been wearing Snickers trousers for about 15 years plumbing, tried other brands but they just aren't up to the same standard, comfort, durability, design, they're expensive but my two pairs of floor layers trousers have lasted me 3 years already, so they're quite economical in the long run I suppose.

Hi roger what’s the sizes like in the flexiwork Floorlayers trouser ? I currently have the old Floorlayers trouser and they are a size 48 32 leg and 32 waist, can you recommend any sizes for the new range ? As I have been informed that the sizes come up small. Thanks.

Flexiwork because they are not too heavy and you can stretch around. Having said that my favourite winter trousers are the floor layers trousers. I told Snickers that and they said lots of people say they are the best trousers in the range.

Hi Paul I think like all clothing manufacturers they have to move ahead but as well as the next generation there is also the classic range. I think if it keeps selling they would be foolish to drop anything. Personally I am glad they have moved on from all that shiny fabric. I found that a bit too much for the summer. BTW did you work as a plumbing in Oz?

I've tried a few work trousers in my time and snickers are a luxury fit! They are nice but no matter what brand I try no one can get the knee pad area right. Unfortunately due to the nature of how we move and trousers moving with you the pads naturally will move away from the perfect one position. I nearly always have to adjust the pads when kneeling but I'm used to it now.

  • @SkillBuilder

Hi Zed Snickers say that the twisted knee cut means that the trouser straightens to move the pad under the knee as you move towards the kneeling position so, in theory, you shouldn't have to make that adjustment. I must say that I just drop down and it works but I do use those nice curved floor layers pads. They are lovely.

Hello - The Snickers 3223 floorlayers trousers are ideally suited to the 9118 kneepad. The best way to get them to stay exactly where you want them is to insert the pad into the inside knee pad pocket (which is a bit like an envelope) kneel down get them perfect and then pull the elasticated drawn strings at the side. This will lock them so theyre in the same position everytime you drop to your knees. A common mistake is to pull the drawstrings when stood up locking them in the wrong position for kneeling

Hi Andy Snickers have different weights of fabric but they certainly haven't spent all this time building a brand so they could flush it down the toilet by producing inferior goods. If you think that your work trousers aren't doing what they used to then Snickers would like to hear about it. Send us your details via www. skill-builder.uk and we will forward them. Hopefully you have kept one or two pairs of worn out trousers for them to look at.

Respectfully may I suggest that you may be carrying an above average bit of tackle down there which puts an undue strain on the zip. I can honestly say that I have never had a zip failure on Snickers and I don't think they would have reduced the quality of a zip because it would lead to lots of returned garments.

Hi .... This is strange as Snickers use YKK zips which are the best you can buy. Though the zips life really does depend on use ...without being crude some need to undo the trousers more than others.... being 50 i can vouch for this !! ..... Have a look at the RuffWork, they're the strongest trouser we have ever sold, --- plus a button up fly ....Pretty sure these would suit you but watch the sizes these are a much slimmer fit than the old 3 series
