Hi August, recently I cut down larch tree (Larix decidua) and I used technique I learned from you - I cut limbs so close to the trunk, that the trunk wood created a hinge - very robust one. Otherwise those limbs were so brittle, they wouldn't hinge at all. With this technique it went so smoothly. Thanks a lot :-)

There is a lot about this video that makes me glad that I have subscribed to your channel. Your attention to safety/mindfulness will and has kept you healthy. The views of the countryside that I spent a good amount of time in when I was growing up and living in the area are great to see, especially with the changing of the seasons. The drone shots were great especially seeing the snag acting like a shake as you were working your way down. Thanks a lot for sharing these videos and continue to take care.

Hey August, guess that's where years of experience matched with intuition and a good helping of extra courage allows for a successful outcome. Awesome job. The 540i really does look to be an impressive alternative to the 200t.

Yes, August. The stubs come back to haunt you. Yes. Truth. Talked about sneaking, tying off to a separate tree, investigating deeper details of damage before and during the climb, very concise, and yet completely attentive to all range of details... Holy Moses, 40 pullups? All at once? I need to go back and listen, instead of typing while I watch. Nicely done, is what I mean.

More stress than the best suspense movie! I started to process the idea that the thing you're counting on to save your life will send you hurtling 30 ft across a void, until you maybe smack into the safety tree. And all the while you need to avoid contact with the clunker that broke off the tree getting cut down. You guys ARE super heroes!

One of your best vids. Can't believe you climbed above that vertical crack, but what really gave me some armchair adrenaline was watching the center of that spar as you were climbing down wobbling and shaking like a soft bellied hula dancer. I saw that and thought the tree must be awfully soft there, and sure enough when you dropped the trunk it broke right there. Did you see that on this video? When you're climbing back down, the center of the tree looked like a belly dancer. Like it was rubber. When I was your age I still don 't think I could have pulled that one off like that and now, feggetaboutit... I'm a country hack just trying to keep the bills paid in my old age. But its sure something to see watching you work. Good book says the laborer is worthy of the hire. In your case I'd say that's about tenfold and some.

That Husky battery saw is indeed pretty macho, I'm guessing my little Echo 2511 would burn 2 tanks to cut as much as the Husky on one charge. Regarding the wood the only place I like Butterfinger is in Dairy Queen Blizzards. The tree work and video is so professional, thanks for another one. Blessings BTW looks kind of like the tree you're tied to might be next.

I’m living in far Upstate New York, and the Emerald Ash Beetles have arrived and started taking out the trees. My new policy has become “ anything that can reach the house or surrounding buildings has to go. Admitting that I always wanted to run a chainsaw was an early manly requirement, now I have justification. Now She Who Must Be Obeyed is complaining about me picking up a fixable Homelight for a record ten dollars! The nerve!! 😂. Of course it will be my initial foray into porting…….I just can’t help myself. But winter is long ( already had a case of white) and who doesn’t need just one more project? You guys are doing fine examples of how to survive a difficult vocation. Always a joy to see the next experience!😊

I have a home made theory that pine trees use fire to kick the checkerboard and start the game again. They gain advantage after a fire by opening cones in unison, then they race to the sky. At first they dominate, far in the lead, until more robust and longer living trees that can tolerate shade (like hemlock, grand fir, and even doug fir) begin to ovetake them. Before they lose, they 'decide' as a group to end it sooner than those mature trees would like. How? The pines use their sensitivity to pine beetles to all die together, making a whole lot of crispy wood, just waiting for a lightning strike to make big fire. The game starts again. Normally species evolve to resist pathogens like pine beetle, but in this case broad sensitivity to pine beetle gives them an unfair cheat code by allowing a reboot for the next generation.

Hey August. Love the videos. Quick question… What is your thoughts on the safety line without a “Weak Link Carabiner”? Like doesn’t it defeat the purpose of you have a safety line but you’re strapped to the “Breadstick” with your steel core flip line? Now I kind of get it once you have topped the tree because you could just slide off the top of it broke then… But I would just like to know your thoughts. Love your videos!

40:08 From my experience this kind of cambium saver is great. I had to buy new one, it is Petzl NAJA, and I have mixed feelings about it. Pulley is great for climbing up, but the whole system can't be used for choking the stem, always there must be some branch or union. So not practical for tree felling. .... August, not sure if you have a knot or something on the end of the rope in the cambium saver you are showing. There should be a stopper knot.
