Sneaker Expert Jeff Staple Answers Sneaker Questions From Twitter | Tech Support | WIRED

Ойын-сауық

Renowned sneaker expert and designer Jeff Staple answers your sneaker-centric questions from Twitter. Why do Air Jordans remain so enduringly popular? Was the Reebok Pump better than Nike Air? What actually goes into the process of making a shoe? And does Jeff think nostalgia is holding innovation in the sneaker industry back? Answers to all these questions (and more) await.

That is not what a hype beast is, that is a sneaker head. A hype beast is someone who buys and wears things solely for the hype of the product. If others want it, they want it, regardless of how they feel about the design. They’re more interested in the resell price, than how it looks in their fit.

I agree on everything except the hypebeast answer. A hypebeast isn't just someone who's into fashion, a hypebeast is someone who is always chasing the newest hype. To that person, the fashion/style aspect isn't the most important, it's just about the status of always having the "most desired" piece of footwear or clothing (or other stuff, this can even be applied to non-physical things like activities).

Funny thing about Crocs, in Mike Judge's movie Idiocracy they didn't have a big budget so the costume department had everyone set in the future wearing Crocs, which was a small unknown startup company and cheap at the time of filming, Mike Judge wanted something ridiculous looking and said no one would ever wear them

The Jordan 1 wasn't banned for being "too crazy and too ugly"... It was just that MJ was fined $5000 every time he wore the black and red AJ1 because they violated the NBA's uniform regulations at the time. The shoe was fine, it was just the black and red colorway that the NBA had an issue with.

He got the definition of hypebeast and also the reason why the NBA fined Jordan both wrong lol. Hypebeast - someone who just goes after the expensive, "hyped" shoes, and doesn't really care about the culture or history NBA fine on Jordan - not because the shoe was "ugly". He was fined (and Nike picked up the tab as a marketing cost) because of the black/red color scheme, which was against NBA rules at the time.

i think the jordan overstayed its welcome its time for something else .. i think now that so many brandslike designers have their own sneakers its like the market has space for so many people to make their own sneakers that the choices and desire of the customer to be diff is making room for new brands to come on board making any one sneaker less dominant .. i used to wear the airforce white ones all the time but now im tired of it but if there werent so many players now i would probably still go to the white pair of airforce one and a wheat pair of timbs,, but the jordan is not to my liking like why give any one person so much of your money he doesnt wear a shirt with my name on it so why shud i wear his kicks , ive never had a pair of them bc theyre too pricey and people just wear them bc others tell them they have to,. a lot of the models dont really look good either but its like people think they need to say they all look cool . i rather see staple and other artists collabs that bring new ideas and not a monopoly,, hes just a basketball player not like he cured cancer,, i rather see a staple pigeon sneaker than a jump man logo and it looks pretty stupid to me the open leg one arm silouette, i think it lived its course if the payless sneakers were deemed cool at school how many of those followers wud then ditch the jordan for the payless sneakers showing they never even liked the jordans, the pigeon looks better to me or the rat on the crocs its diff the swoosh too or the 3 stripes . why do people just give their money willingly to a man or a name who wudnt do the same for the people buying them
