In my opinion, this is one of the definitive versions of Xavi! I love hearing Mike "Maz" Maher on the wah trumpet, as well as Zach Brock's solo with that cool overdriven violin sound a la Jean Luc Ponty. Justin Stanton's Fender Rhodes playing is brilliant as always. A+++

I saw them in Chicago in 2019. While I was hoping that they played Lingus and some of the other Tunes, they did not disappoint at all. In fact, as I reflect from that show, this has to be one of my favorite snarky Puppy songs of all time right now.

@@PhilGMonte I did, they're good but still prefer the solo here. Also I just thought the Tiny Desk version sounds quite weird, like imo songs like Xavi sounds better in concert gig, hall, studio with huge space, or any setting where the sounds are better amplified through the open air.

And the Puppy was Snarky, and the Puppy grew and grew. FZ "nothing but the best for my dog, see there not a speck of cereal, the puppy bites, the puppy chews it." If I were a really talented guitar player, I still wouldn't be able to play with this group. These Folks are really really excellent at what they do.

I'm guessing the cued the audience in before the song start. If you watch their performance on tiny desk mike gets the audience to practice the 3/4 poly then they go into this song.

I saw them live in 2019 - completely unfamiliar with their music. Had just heard the trumpet player had done some arrangement work with Steely Dan. I had the same impression of the similarities with the Zappa Orchestra I’d seen 50 years prior.....but advanced in technology by a half century - on steroids - amped up - Mind blowing musicality.

Well idk what more credit they can give, any time they play it or talk about this song they talk about how it's all based from Moroccan music and grooves. There are plenty of live performances where Michael League talks before the song starts about how its using Moroccan rhythms, so I'd say they give a lot of credit

@@senorfredericksen9895 Ok, good point. I didn't hear it as a polyrhythm, I just heard the usual people clapping imprecisely. Considering most people can't clap to 4/4, it is really ambitious to expect an audience to do two different time signatures at the same time.

@@zed9zed There is also the problem of every live recording - the claps of the folks in the back are bound to come in late, just because the velocity of sound becomes noticable at just 30-40 meters meaning a hearable delay - thats why everybody at a big concert can clap in perfect synchronization and you'll hear it all over the place. The audio engineer can correct that somewhat in post, but only to a degree.
