Growing up as a kid in WV, my grandpa had one of these, and I probably put thousands of miles on that thing going around the neighborhood and hauling my friends around in the little wagon. That thing ran forever.

There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

This model belonged to my father in law, who recently passed. He called his "Big Red" and was religious about maintaining it. As he got ill, it was not used for about the last 12 to 4 months. no problem, these are decent machines as long as you treat them good and dont abuse them

I had one of these and cut as a second job and one yard was 12 acres. This is not the best mower for that but I used that mower through three engines and bought a Yazoo for the bigger places. These mowers are to the point simple, no nonsense machines that do what they are built for. I wish everything were built that way. I don't cut grass for pay now but have had one for 7 or 8 years that is just happiness to get on and cut the grass.

I have an older version of this mower, Looks almost identical. I remember as a kid cutting the grass and driving around the yard!

I got one of those. I found it in the middle of the road. I just got new fuel line hoses last night. I cranks right up now. It seems like a good little work horse. I'm going to re- test after work today.

I have an older 8hp version of this. Most of the shields are now missing. 😄 The only work it's ever needed were 2 partial carb rebuilds and periodic clutch replacements. Be sure to use the genuine B&S clutch that has the inner ring permanently attached to the clutch.

My uncle maintained and restored quite a few of these old Snapper rear engine lawnmowers in the past. Made some good money as a side job as he owned his own shop repairing these unique machines. Had to have been in the early 80s and up until the mid to late 90s. People just didn't want those kinds of lawnmowers anymore after the late 90s. He closed down shop and owns it no more. Sad, but I had some good memories as a kid watching him work on those old lawn mowers back then. He said they were so easy to tear down and rebuild, he could've possibly down it blindfolded LOL!

How are these going up and down hills? I have a 16 hp tractor that can do my hills and this mower comes in 15 hp configuration.

I have one, I am turning it into a gokart for my kid.

So I have one of these that I figured out how to use after my husband died. It has been sitting for a while and now won't crank. I assumed it was a battery issue but there doesn't seem to be a battery lol.....please forgive my ignorance and help! If this is a helpful clue I ran it all summer and if it ever shut off for whatever reason (ran out of gas, ran over something), I could never get it to crank back up that same day.

Chris, Im hoping you can help me. I recently purchased a Snapper RER used from a guy who pretty much screwed up everything he touched on the mower. Im slowly sorting out the problems one by one but my main issue is that I cannot find any plates, labels or anything that tells me what Model or Series this mower is. It says 28 inch Hi Vac Deck on the steering column, its a single pedal, the front console has a key start, throttle lever and a parking lever. He has replaced the motor and put a 30 inch deck on it. So the deck is different and the engine has been swapped out. Can you tell me what model or series I have. If you would like pictures and that would help, let me know where to send the pics and I will. Would appreciate any and all information.

We have one just like it but every time you try and turn,it stays on but it won’t go and you have to rock it to get it moving idk what’s wrong with it

You can store the Snapper upright to save on floorspace.

I have an almost identical snapper but I just fired it up for the springtime and it has started sputtering on hills and sharp turns. I have to level the mower out to smooth out the sputter. Mine is also a crank. It fires right up. I am at a loss.

On KZread go to Jim's fixit shop. Excellent teacher will share everything about snapper rear engine rider. Your problem probably is a drive disc. When they get worn out it will have lack of power going up and down hills.

What size tires are the rear?

Bought the 2020 version of this mower. It great......as well too.

I’m very new to using this kind of mower - what’s the reason to put it in neutral before disengaging or engaging the mowing blades? Is it okay to engage the blades while it’s in gear? Also, do you use the clutch to shift from 1st gear to 2nd, etc? Thanks in advance!

machine should be stopped prior to blade engagement, i also recommend shifting from 1 to second gear while machine is not moving, if i recall correctly these machines have a pressure plate and a rubber wheel that drives unit and you need to relieve pressure prior to switching gears.

Hi David - it's Big Rodders in a locked down Ireland. While it is good practice to engage the blade while in neutral, it's not technically necessary as you can activate and deactivate the blade while on the move. The only time when clutching is necessary is when going into or out of neutral. To minimise pressure on the entire transmission I always start in 1st and then frequently shift gears without clutching depending on grass density and negotiating obstacles.

What to do if you flood motor?

Is it a series 7?

Chris, I’m literally looking at purchasing the rear engine Snapper mower 2691526 before the end of the year. I’m doing my research before pulling the trigger and ran across your channel. Have you seen any major problems with these mowers? I take care of all my stuff, so I would not abuse the mower and would garage keep it. I just don’t want to spend $2,800 and make a bad purchase. Any advice would be appreciated.👍🏻

Haha I had one it broke down three time the first was my fault the second someone cut the wires off it and the third it blew up on me and now it has a random whole but the whole month I got to use it I was surprised that It worked so well Sadly it’s gone now and need a new lawn mower

Yes. I usually mow in 2nd or 3rd. 4th and 5th just to get to the spot faster.

How much is a 2010 sapper 28 inch sell for

Do they make this mower still? I was looking at $4K zero turn mower like Deere and Husqvarna, but I really don't want to spend 4 grand and don't want to buy these mowers from a big box company like Lowes and Home Depot.

I have the 12.5 hp version of this mower, I just had it running fine, then it sat for about 2 months and now it won't start, and the starter just clicks, and then when I try pulling the cord it's stuck and won't budge! I'm trying to get the motor free... any advice you may have would be amazing, thank you!

I have the same problem, If you spray WD40 or PB Blaster through the spark plug hole then take a breaker bar with the correct bolt size you should be able to break it free. Just wiggle the breaker bar on top of the motor back and forth until it spins the full way round without getting stuck. After you are done you will have to change the oil. Hope this helps!

no. Battery would be on left side under seat. This is a pull start only. But a ton of these are electric start.
