SMPS ripple testing and comparison 5V DC power supply

In this video we look at 3 different AC mains to 5V DC switched mode power supplies. We'll take a look inside each of them and also have a close look at their ripple voltage under different loads. TV HOME SHOPPING STYLE
The power supplies tested are:
YXDY S-10W-5 rated at 5V 2A this only cost $5 and it shows. Basic circuit with little separation on the high voltage side and cheap components. P-P Voltage ripple 99mV @ .75A, 114mV @ 1.5A
?? S-15-5 rated at 5V 3A this one cost $10. Slightly better circuit with some beefier components but still no name stuff. P-P Voltage ripple 30mV @ .75A, 46mV @ 1.5A, 93mV @ 3A
Mean Well RS-15-5 rated at 5V 3A this cost $20. Definitely the most well built with good separation on the high voltage side and some quality components (Rubycon caps on the output) but at double the price of the next cheapest. P-P Voltage ripple 30mV @ .75A, 54mV @ 1.5A, 62mV @ 3A

Good to know the small Meanwell has such good characteristic. I've been using one of their quad-rail (+5V, -5V, +12V, -12V) as a general-purpose PSU for retrocomputing and it seems to hold up really well.

Yeah the Mean Well actually tested lower ripple voltage than their spec sheet which is always a good sign. I would certainly recommend this brand
Another thought, it would be a GREAT Video to replace those Caps in the cheaper Models and see how well they perform afterwards. I actually did that on one I got from AliExpress only I realized I didn't have any Caps in stock at those Voltages with which to replace and complete the testing, lol. Project stopped and I forgot about it until now...just a thought on a Good and simple Video idea imho. -Mark.
Try the EPS-15-5. A little cheaper in cost since it's an open frame unit, has rather low Ripple and is rated at 3.3A Max. -Max.

Interesting the rs-15-5 comes in slightly cheaper for me but the eps-15-5 does have lower ripple. 80mv for the rs vs 50mv for the eps

@@Sawickipedia Odd considering the Metal Enclosure should only raise the price in comparison to Open Frame Switchers. Octopart.com is best source for comparing prices across MANY Suppliers of all parts. -Mark.

High wattage resistors, it's been a while so I don't remember the exact value
Still the ripple is high concerning the low DC voltage level. But again.....cheap in many ways.
