Smoothing Cardboard to make it look like metal or plastic

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hello, I'm Thomas from ATomic Cos n Props.
Cardboard is a cheap and easy to use material but it is difficult to paint.
Especially if you want it to look like metal or plastic.
I used this technique for my Mandalorian gauntlets.
The materials are heavy cardboard, wallfiller, white glue and super glue.
Have fun and be creative 😊.

Very useful, that's a good tip about sealing edges with thin super glue and then filler. Going to try this!

Dude you're a lifesaver. I've been trying to figure out how to smooth that awful ribbed finish that cardboard has. Will definitely be using this method from now on.

Could you make a fiberglass form from this after the coatings of thinned pva? Nice work!

I don't know, I've never made a fiberglass form before, but I think if the pva is painted and sealed, it should work. Please let me know if you try it.

I actually did try it. It worked well except for one thing - I did not seal the back of the cardboard at all. Moisture weakened the shape of the final product a bit from the back, but if I had sealed it properly, it would have worked just fine. Loving your videos!@@atomiccosnprops

My prop is round and i but wall filler on it but it cracks. Should i use caulk or pva glue like you have?

My prop was very stiff, so the wall filler could not move and crack. Is your prop flexible?
