Smoking 500 foot Standstill - Every Angle

Спорт

I get asked a whole lot about my form, my disc path, and every minutia about my standstill form. When I was on the comeup, I scoured the internet for videos of Graham Russel and old Will Schusterick and there just wasn't very much great footage. I was intrigued by their mechanics and wanted to figure out HOW they made it look so easy.
This is for the nerds out there like me!
I don't rock back and forth on the course, but it's a GREAT way to feel your timing when practicing, so when you're on the course it just feels natural and effortless to get the timing right.
If you're interested in what this looks like throwing real discs, check out my field work video here : • How far do I ACTUALLY ...

The "rocker" is a SUPER common weighted ball drill for pitchers and javelin throwers, there's so much untapped ground in those domains for crossing over to disc golf

I throw what i call a modified standstill - where I rock back and take a short stride with my front or brace leg. I love the idea of moving back leg back and keeping brace leg on the ground. That way, you can’t start your throw too early before you plant. I am an older player with knee issues so I think this may work for me. Can’t wait to try this out this week. Thank you again for your thoughtful content. I am now a big fan of your channel. Looking forward to the weight training content. I am always trying to figure a way to balance the two activities - lifting and playing.

I need the net POV angle lol. Nice work! As a newbie who struggles with rounding, one thing that interests me is you come back further behind yourself in some of the throws Edit: further than I would think necessary, but you're still throwing straight

Daaaamn. One thing I noticed in the back and top views are it seems like you are going directly behind yourself and slightly rounding. Obviously isn't affecting much lol, but just thought it was crazy to see that. Keep crushing!

Actually one of the reasons I did this. We have some discussions going on in discord about rounding currently!

I feel like precisely none of the ‘rules’ we have apply to a throw with this much rotation in and around the spine.

If you do it correct its better, your sling or whip will be longer if you rounding and even add more spin to the throw

Strong and fast upper body, but few things what should be fixed, the main issue is your head position, if you throw at 12 a clock, your head should be at 9, that causes rounding and also pullin the disc just with your arm. Because of that, your brace isnt strong, also a little timing issue, your plant foot should be strongly on the ground before you start the throw, now its fully planted only then when you are on the power pocket. It would be nice if for example overthrow would give you a form review. You would throw 800ft after you "clean" your form because of that power.

Do your fingers hurt when throwing this hard? last year i was throwing hige 400s and i started to feel it in my fingers, After resting this winter i went to the field to see where i stand now and was throwing some distancelines over 500ft and even got blisters on my fingers, kinda annoying.

Yep. It's a constant battle especially when it's cold. Not much to be done about it, your skin will adapt, but you'll see pros with taped fingers even in big tournaments.

For these throws were you still using the cue 'pull in a straight line'? I heard in another video you say something about reaching behind you more and an arc? That sounds like a description of rounding so I might be misremembering or you phrased it oddly.

@@BlitzDG oh wow so you were describing rounding? Hah, well I have heard, I think Eagle, say everyone has ‘some’ rounding. So you must be within an acceptable limit.

It's not something I would teach someone to do, but I've had alot of success doing what feels and performs well, so I don't really subscribe to much dogmatic shenanigans about throwing the disc.

@@BlitzDG that’s encouraging. It’s a lot harder for people under 6’. I’m sort of struggling with my form now. I really want to do tournaments, but I set a goal to hit 450’ consistently before I will let myself. I’m consistently hitting 380-400’. My occasional bombers are going up to 450’, but it is’t consistent at all.

@@jeffcronch5234 if you have 380' golf lines and a nice 85%+ c1x putting % you will be winning ma1 in most tournaments here in the PNW. In regards to Height, Emmerson Keith is like 5'2" and throws 550'+. I'm the same height as you and sure it may prevent us from hitting 750', but definitely not preventing you from throwing 450'. Just keep at it.

Your arm is not bend 90 degree, and your rear foot isn't on toe as you teach us in your video, and also in my opinion your shoulder is not turned enough, (upper and lower arm not over 90 degree) still keep it up your speed is crazy tho 😉
