--------
In this clip, Smokey Robinson opened up about falling into a bout with drug addiction around the mid-1980s after a lot of things began to happen in his life, from his marriage being on the rocks, Marvin Gaye passing away, his father passing away, and a list of other things. However, Smokey said by 1986, he had the drug addiction “prayed off” of him by a minister.

His story about becoming free from his cocaine and weed addiction is amazing. My mom became an alcoholic after my father died, when I was 15. She was an alcoholic for 25 years. Then she started feeling really sick with terrible headaches and stomach aches. She lost 70 lbs. She needed to. She also stopped drinking. Her best friend told me that my mom needed to see a doctor and find out why she was so sick, Her friend told me to tell her that she couldn’t drive my son in her. I begged her to do it for my son. She had already quit drinking and lost 70lbs. But she belonged to a church that believes that if they just realize that they aren’t really sick; the illness would leave. Well it wasn’t leaving. She went and it turned out she had extremely high blood pressure. Like 200 over 100 something. Now takes every pill her doctor prescribes. She had cataract surgery and can see much better. And she see a cardiologist regularly and her heart is doing ok. (She’s 88) I am so grateful she doesn’t have any issues from her past drinking. I even had her liver function checked and it’s doing very well. Phew!!

The 40s is a hard age range to deal with because by your 40s the life you've been living and the situations you think you skated through - both good and bad- start to catch up with you. Your mind starts to want to relax and think and mentally access. Your body becomes a little tired. Your spirit starts to get tired. If these things aren't properly addressed and reconciled you will get to a dark place mentally. Take care of your spiritual health especially as you approach your 40s.

I'm 44 here. And I can't agree more. That's why I lift, box, I fly my drone etc. People call it a mid life crisis, I call it my peace. I've been to prison, and now I'm home free. I earn a very good living.. life has been more than fair to me. Young men it's not about f****** as many women as you can. Become the best version of yourself when you're young. Don't chase these women, I've lost so much time dealing with the wrong women. I was wrong too. But let me tell you this, the right women bring a different energy. And not that you need them. But the right women have a different aura. Get one you'll see. Good luck 💯🙏🏾
As someone coming out of depression and kicking bad habits, I felt this. I had no idea why I was not taking care of myself for a long time. It’s oftentimes things weighing us down. Luckily I’m self aware to reflect and finally said this is done. Much happier now and feel stronger physically, mentally, and emotionally. Living a healthy lifestyle is always possible. Even when you fall off the wagon like I did, it’s always waiting for you to come back and I’m happy I’m back.

I love how he didn't rationalize or excuse his drug use. Instead he asked himself why he was using and realized he had no reason to "escape" because his life was already exactly what he wanted it to be! So profound! ACCOUNTABILITY IS ESSENTIAL IN THIS LIFE!!

Love his openness and him admitting his mistakes. It offers a lot hope. Appreciate him and his story. Great interview.
In the mid 80's I attended Academy Cathedral on Manchester Blvd in Inglewood, and it wasn't working for me, so I decided to visit a little unknown store front church down the street with about 20 or so members. As the pastor begin to lay hands on people a familiar face caught my eye and it was Smokey Robinson. I was shocked to see a legend sitting in this small church in the hood but there he was faithfully every week being prayed for and seeking the Lord. When I realized celebrities are human beings with hurts, pains and struggles like everyone else I stopped idolizing them. ✝🙏🏼
Ive heard stories of Smokey once walking the streets highly and only have the utmost respect for his humility and honesty to accepts what has helped himself to overcome 👏 🙏 🙌 👍 🤔 Yep
Truly a blessing that God has his hand on him still he’s still teaching us lessons..💎💎💎

Really enjoying these interviews with Smokey, just cool wise brother all the way around! The youngins could learn a few things from this man
Old school anointing, "I didn't kick the habit it was prayed off me." GOD bless Smoke Robinson.
Smokey Is The Realest Man To Admit His Faults. He Don't Have To Say Are Explain Nothing To Nobody. But That Shows How Genuine Is As A Person.
Smokey can be addicted to whatever he wants in life but he’s still a legend
These are the kind of people who should be looked at and viewed to learn things from and I have a feeling that society would be in a better place if all the other nonsense and shenanigans that gets attention and goes viral nowadays was eclipsed by these kind of people that u can actually take something from when you're going through hard times and turmoil yourself. This surprised me because as an ex addict myself I never had any idea that Smoky dealt with addiction and it's a very humbling thing.
