I was driving my kenworth when I heard the news on the radio, and I had to stop and pull over because the tears in my eyes made it hard to see. I was so upset 😭

This scene always makes me happy whenever the trucks help out the bandit. Just shows how connected truckers were. Love it

when I lived in the Detroit area I liked to "escort" the big rigs in my Mustang. Like if they had trouble merging I'd cut off the other 4-wheeler and flash my high beams that it was okay to merge. IMO when they bring me all of my food, clothes on my back, and other nice things, it is the least I could do

I drove for 41 yrs n loved it the greatest job ever been all over the country. 1.5 million miles

I have great respect those truckers that drive responsibly, and I have no respect for ones like the guy who tried to run me off the road this afternoon. It's sad, most of the truckers I've met are decent folks, but people only remember the few who are jerks (because, well, scary moments like mine today tend to stick out in one's mind) so it leads to a bad stereotype.

This movie is just perfect. Such a feel good movie from start to finish. This is what's missing in today's films. It's just a simple story, not much going on really but so funny and a lot of fun to watch. I wish they still made movies like this.

burt was a genius unlike the hissy fit dont look at me stars today! he simply went with the fun had no ego and let jerry and jackie have all the best scenes the more they stole the picture the more he encouraged them to do it! he knew he had comedy gold all he had to do was look good and drive the car! and he let the audience in on it! he was having fun as was sally he let us know it and enjoy it with them jerry was just superb wrote east bound and down according to burt when he said to him at ten in the evening in a bar they needed a song he had it next morning on the shoot crazy! jackie they just let rip! burt said he never knew what hed come out with but his improvisations were always funnier than the scripted lines.when junior is sitting with the door on his lap evidence! jackie was supposed to mumble titurd! hal needham couldnt believe he just on the spot said the classic funniest line in movies fust thing im gonna do when i get home is bust yore mumma in the mouf! you sure aint the fruit of my loins! guys a genius he said in awe to burt! a joy from start to finish.

@@mikekemp9877 the director was a stuntman, i think this was his first movie. when burt pointed out to him that you can't break the fourth wall, he didn't know what that was, he just knew it was going to be fun to do, so they did it.

The problem is that when they make an action comedy these days, they can never resist making the action bigger than the comedy. But it has to be the other way round. This is such a brilliant scene, and nothing gets wrecked, and all they needed were a few trucks and two cars. And a dog.

I was in high school when this movie came out and I owned a Trans Am just like this one that I paid $5000 for used but with only 5000 miles on it. Loved the movie and the car. RIP Burt.

I was in college when this came out and I got a TA because of this movie, too. Mine was not exactly like these because it was a 1979, not 1977s, like the ones in the movie. Mine was black and silver, not gold. I had that thing for 36 years, finally selling it in 2017. It was a good car.

These scenes were filmed in and around my hometown of Ringgold, GA. Interstate 75 and U.S. 41. The roads have changed a great deal since then. We got to meet Burt Reynolds. I remember he was a perfect gentleman. Always happy and smiling.

Life was so much simpler when all we had were payphones and CB radios. Talking to truckers on the one in our car on road trips was the highlight of them for me. RIP to all the greats in this movie.

3:40 - the best few seconds of the movie, when Sally reacts to his laugh with her genuine smile and emotion. There is no acting here, just her enjoying the moment. You don't see this anywhere else in the movie.

Yup love them truckers. Moving from FL to MI in a big Moving truck with my horse trailer on the back and my truck on the back of that, brakes went out in Tennessee didn't have time to stop those truckers took care of me all the way to mi. God love u. ❤

Saw 'em all at the Drive-In as a kid. Star Wars was the best because there was a backdrop of stars in the night sky behind the screen and all the X-Wing and Death Star scenes looked like they were actually happening right before our eyes!

Same with my father. Time is something they should teach us we have very little of. But then depending on how you were raised, you might have. Freedom is everything. And it makes us lose a lot of time enjoying our selfish needs. Then one day, it all comes to an end.

One of the best driving-themed movies I ever saw. Cop chases, convoys, crashing through roadblocks, and all the comedic dialogue weaved in. I wish more modern movies would be like this one.

3:33 It’s really impressive how well the car scenes are shot. Like even for modern movies those shots of the car in the convoy were so well done and practical. Really impressive

IIRC, that interstate wasn’t open yet. The cradle scenes were shot with Bandit and the trucks driving on the opposite side so a camera car could move with them at the same speed. Then the other driving scenes were done on the correct side of the roads.

At 14 was dropped with a friend at the theater and walked in expecting to be disappointed by a stupid depiction of trucks. Soon as it opened and there was the close up of the slack adjusters coming off and the drive axle twisting up with every shift I knew it was going to be great. Jerry's "The Legend " playing over it, perfect. Love the trailer wheel hop at the rail crossing. First time director, long time stuntman Hal Needham did this on almost no money and it ran neck and neck with Star Wars.

My dad had this on Betamax cassette. If you were born in the 70's you'll know what I'm on about lol.... Great film, great times👍

Same here! Saw this twice during summer vacation when I was 12. Believe it or not, more kids at school talked about seeing Smokey than Star Wars.

That scene is where I learned the rocking chair trick. I was west bound I-84 heading to Portland with some issues in a 18 wheeler coming up on the scales at Cascade locks, Oregon . I slipped back in the convoy about 8 trucks back and came up on the scales which where open. They Red Lighted the first three trucks which jammed up the scales and they green lighted the rest of us👍👍😁😁I put the hammer down and west bound to Portland 😎

Truck Drivers are JUST AS IMPORTANT these days as they WERE then.

As a British person who loves your American classic cars and trucks, I always loved this film and also the Convoy film. They both showcase your vehicles so well and I'm not a big film lover. Love Jerry Reed and this is my favourite song of his too. I hope one day to have a Trans Am with the biggest engine possible and accelerate and wheelspin on my local roads and let all the environmentalists eat my dirt.

Bandit is a legend saw this when it first came out I was 6. The bandit reason why I got into driving. Bandit reason I'm so dam good at it. Loved being from a small town with back roads to drive like this. Keep out running those Smokey's in heaven bandit.

I have always said that this is the best "Bandit vs. the Smokeys" scene in the entire movie. Bandit doesn't get away by outrunning, out-jumping or out-stunting the police - he gets away at 55 mph by *outsmarting* them! (Okay, with a huge assist from Allied Van Lines...)

The actors absolutely make this movie. Almost every line is delivered perfectly

It's hard to believe that "Foxy Lady" is none other than Pat Carroll. Yes, my fellow 90s kids, that smokin' foxy lady is the voice of Ursula in the Little Mermaid.

Owned a '77 Trans Am for a time. Man, I miss the 70's!!

I love that movie. I could watch it all night.

Burt Reynolds in Smokey and the Bandit is one of the all time masculine heroes. Absolute legend.

My mother and I would watch this every Sunday. She loved Jackie Gleason and that Trans Am.

Amazing how much better this looks watching it in HD vs the VHS and DVD versions I've watched for over 20 years.

It may look better but they should have never messed with the car's iconic tones. Sounds like a 20 year old Toyota 4 banger with a miss.

@@piedpiper8355 Yeah I don't know why they changed the sounds. The Trans Am in the original film sounded totally amazing! It was dubbed but still was awesome. Why they would change it after 40+ years is a mystery. I'd like to know what vehicle they recorded the original sounds from that were used in the 1977 film

It's the film scan. 35mm film will scan to 4k.

@@piedpiper8355 Nope. That was the era of low compression with mild cams and near the end of the big blocks.

This movie was HUGE when it came out and this was the best scene. CBrs became big and everyone got one. Lol good times.

It was a combination of this movie and CW McCall’s Convoy song.

My grandpa - who drove an 18-wheeler for a living - and I used to watch this movie when I was little (30+ years ago)… He passed away in 2018 but this made me smile and think of him.

"Thats why I love to drive those trucks, spot them beavers"...............CLASSIC

When I was a child I watch this movie over and over and I always dream of becoming a truck driver when I go on the New Jersey Turnpike and I drive by trucks I still think of the snowman and I still think of how awesome those trucks are. Love this movie!!!

who remembers watching this movie on tv back in the day when they replaced "sumbitch" with "scumbum"

Yeah, it wasn't the same on network TV after seeing the uncut version on Showtime. But mores were different in those days. You couldn't say a lot of things that you can now. NYPD Blue and Blue Bloods would never have gotten away with the stuff they said on those shows.

As an FSU alumni this movie always holds a special place in my heart because of Burt Reynolds. R.I.P (Ride in peace) bandit

My dad took me to see this movie when it was recently released. I was 9 years old. I loved it more than Star Wars.

My grandfather had this movie on VHS video when I was a kid in the 80's. I never watched it at the time, but always wondered what it was about. I watched this a few months ago, and gosh darn it's a fun ride to watch.

I still have mine on VHS and it still looks the same as it did when I first bought it, though I bought mine in the 90's. I bought the 4K/Blu-Ray version a few days ago, and even though the wide screen looks great, they really ruined the Trans Am's engine and tire sounds. Now it sounds more like an Oldsmobile V6. :o

You might be gone Burt Reynolds but we'll always love and miss you !!!!!

This movie my late dad favorite. He loved this so much. He was bit outlaw him self. One time he treat the owner of an computer store that he fix or bring an computer or he will smash the store with an axe. The owner comply. 🤣
