Yeah if you react wrong to a smoke mixup, a good smoke can get over 450 damage one bar against you. Kinda crazy

I've been watching Max since MVC3 days. When I was all in on watching tournaments and tuning in evo every year. Now as a 36 year old that doesn't play games often let alone fighting games, I picked up MK1 on the PC. I can't do a combo to save my life. Props to all those that are older and still have the reaction time to do it.

The truth lies closer to "that doesn't play games often let alone fighting games" than "a 36 year old." The reaction time is less, yes, but your combos are timing and knowledge, which require time, and come together in muscle memory. With practice you'll be able to pull them, I am sure :)

smoke is the greatest fighter ever. I met smoke when I was roaming thru the living forest back in the early 90s. He is really down to earth.

God I love Smoke really glad they brought him back from MK 9, I got chills in the trailer when I heard him say we're there's Smoke, there's Fire

The most important thing to learn here is that Outworld has giant armadillos and thats neat

Not sure why it's a surprise to play a fighting game and see a majority of its players using the same character. People are always going to take the road of least resistance when it comes to getting that "W".

They all will encounter a hard brick wall once they reach a certain rank against better players (Except raiden, he is pretty broken at every level)

This is why I love the SF 6/Tekken approach. Give each character a rank to promote some diversity. I can pick up a new character and not affect my character’s rank.

There are kounters for smoke such as reptile Raiden Milena shao kahn and sindel just to name a few off the top of my head ,it's not that people want an easy win it's because people have a choice of learning a character with hard combos or combos that are easy to learn and make the player happy. Atleast thats what I've learned while playing

Is that a thing? I know this comment doesn’t pertain to me, but I’ve always just stuck with whoever I think is the coolest or is my personal favourite. It’s the reason I’ve always picked Reptile no matter what game it is. I feel like the joy in a fighting game comes from finding a favourite or multiple favourites, and learning the best ways to play them so you can win with your chosen main.

Smoke is just such a cool character with a cool design and cool powers not to mention he’s voiced by SPIDER-MAN

I knew him from Superman years before he voiced Spider-Man from the Legions of Super Heroes show. He voiced a teenage Superman probably where they got the cast idea for Spider-Man.

smokes specials are super punishable and his overhead low when a good smoke player starts using the cancel though things can get long

I had the same issue on pc on nonstop smoke and raiden. And honestly it sometimes feels like if you arent playing smoke you are at an extreme disadvantage as i played johnny. Johnny feels better as a casual online fighter then ranked fighter. But Thats just been my experience

No no no! Let me drop a gem on you. The kasual fighters are actually on rank. I lose more matches playing Kasual and I'm a Smoke main lol. I'm Master on Kombat League. Yes you'll run into a few good players on rank, but most were Kasuals. Good Luck!

Well as i said its been my experience so far. Most of those matches i had against smoke have most of the time been one sided. I had one match though where we were quite even though he was quite toxic but thats par for the course in online ranked. I played rank and had fun when i was fighting other people. Liu kang, Geras, reptile and other johnny players. But when i was fighting smokes it did honestly feel like an extended cutscene of me getting my ass kicked. Though mind you i will not claim to be the best johnny player in the world hell took me all day just to get to warrior rank and get the scorpion skin. And i have much to learn

kinda neat they gave smoke a knife and have him use his smoke powers with it this game

Quality Smoke Online Matches Max. Smoke with that funky bs zapping about looks hella dope. Liu Kang looks super strong in this Game. Sindel has some nice Moves but very unsafe by the looks of them.

"Why didn't you break?" Because they were against 500 other Smokes today because he's boring and everywhere. x.x

Funny enough I played through about 7 or 8 ranked sets (on ps5 btw) and only ran into 1 smoke and won .. i guess i should be thankful lol

I got max level already I have everything in the seasonal shop and I’ve completed the shrine, safe to say this game has konsumed my life

I started playing Smoke then everybody was playing him so I decided to play Kenshi, Liu Kang and Mileena. still trying to find a good kameo character to use

Kinda sad they made Smoke's teleport launcher into 38-40% combo, but Scorpion's teleport is pretty much useless. It's only good for zoners or can go into combo if you do it after air kick or something, unless connection is bad, then you just drop your spear combo and get punished for 40%. Also Scorpion has 0 overhead/low mixups that can go into combo, I don't know if there's another character like that or it's just him. His launchers are good, but they are both high and any decent player will duck and punish you. On the plus side his B3 is kinda broken from full screen and he's pretty good in the air. But it just forces Scorpion players to play zoners and waiting for your chances with the spear. It's totally different gameplay from MK11

I see people say Smoke is the new MK11 Scorpion but idk I think he requires more skill to play well. I remember picking up Scorpion in 11 and being able to pull off some crazy combos pretty quickly but when I picked up Smoke I was getting thrashed online for a while before I figured out how to use him effectively.

Smoke has been the bane of my ranked experience so far 😭

Just hit top 500 on PC recently and smoke is the one consistent character I see that feels impossible to block at this level. He can teleport cancel multiple times in the same string and both his overheads and lows extend into decently damaging combos. If anybody has any tips to defend against him lmk 😅 I do know that you can upblock his overhead in his low kick to overhead string.

Smoke is the Ken of this game...

I assume max knows this but i wanna say armor only lasts one hit so any quick two hit button or string will beat it, the only who seems to actually have multiple hits of armor is havik

Yeah Baraka b3 is amazing for breaking armor. You essentially can’t wake up against him as long as the Baraka player can consistently meaty correctly

@@dice9270 any character can essentially do the same with Sektor. They just gotta learn the timing on the up missile setup. That’s why I like running Smoke with Sektor. Opponent essentially can’t wake up armor against his mix

Sareena feels like the good ol beam attack assists from DBFZ

@@XxXAntiJoshXxX betas are just that ,if they left subzero the way he was which means his damage was higher than anyone else's he'd be op ,that's a necessary nerf from a prebuild ,all video games go through this ,heck even Tekken 8 is doing it . Subzero works just fine for me and his damage seems fair from the videos I've seen and from what I've played .stop the cap bro

I wish I understood the way inputs work in this game I swear to god it feels fucking awful sometimes to get another motion over the motion you input for special canceling.

Dude they really need to change some of Scorpions frame data. If he’s not going to have any mix ups that lead to combos, then he at least needs to be able to punish a little bit harder. I’ve been getting up blocks all day and they can still block or punish me instead. Everyone else gets crazy exploits, Scorp is just as straight forward as you can get. Liu Kang can combo off of his grab for Pete sake. Throw a dog a bone please.😭 Also I’m glad Max is playing MK again.. may the playlist be as large as his MKX online list by the end of things.😂

Everyone loves ninjas, if Rain's character in MK1 was a ninja, many would definitely play him.

I’ve managed to win some matches but I just had to take a break after being matched with someone who flawless victory’d me in seconds.

@@jico5147 Its not even that much of a challenge depending on the character you play. Some characters have standard special moves you do all the time and you simply have to kill with it and do a simple input. Everyone also has character or Kameo throws, which are also very simple to do, etc

@@Darisuke yeah but that would mean you would have to end the round with a certain move and once whoever you’re playing notices that you’re gonna either barely win the set with an even harder chance of landing that brutality in the first place or just end up losing. theres no move that can’t be dealt with in some way so it would still make playing the game harder than it needs to be.

90% of my matches are against smoke and 95% of them have serena as kameo lol
