It was close but I hit the goal before the ground, by maybe one frame. You can tell at 0:46 and go frame by frame using , and . on your keyboard. I hit the goal right at 0:47, before hitting the ground.

Dude, I play smm2 religiously and I just can’t seem to get the hang of a shell jump anymore like I could on the first Mario maker. What is the technique to it? Every time I even try doing a shell jump off a wall it goes under me or hits me. It’s almost RNG based if I’m gonna land one or not. Seriously seeing this. You need to try AGDQ. I think you’d do great there

It's just timing, if it goes below you then you threw it too early. If it hits you, or goes above you then you threw it too late. It's a little different timing from SMM1 so you just have to adjust. Ehh I don't know about all that haha, these levels are kinda tame compared to what I usually post though. Just been on break.

not sure if this helps, but I found a trick when learning shell jumps for smm2 where, if you quickly release jump and sprint at the same time and then hold them again, so you basically just let go for a fraction of a second, you can generally make the shell jump. it was consistent for me at first, but eventually it started working every time. if you'd rather go the "accepted" way just to be safe, that makes sense, but this way seems to work for me. best way I can describe it is to let go of both buttons and then press them again really fast.

edit: do this before the peak of the jump. timing doesn't matter with this type, so you can do short shell jumps or tall ones. the reason I do it this way is because you don't have to focus on when you release the shell.

@@willjcbs This works well, you become a master of controlled shell jumps this way. I did this back in SMM1 but began to run into issues with momentum in difficult levels, or when you run into a complicated level with a lot of button presses. For the most part this is a good strat though.

Newt I was addicted to shell jumping, mid-airs, Kaizo levels, and remaking romhack levels on Mario maker 1 to the extreme. I get some shell jumps down pretty good in smm2 but when it comes to doing them consecutively.. I have found it harder to be consistent. I’ll get the hang of it but damn it feels weird sometimes. Keep posting vids man I love watching them when I eat lol

Very, the compilations are #TS 4s and less - 3 years ago when TS was first beginning lol. I could start uploading again w/ more difficult levels, but editing is meh.
