Junior..I don't think I have glued myself to the TV screen to watch any batsman but for Mark Waugh, pure artistry in motion, you will be fooling yourself if you will judge him by a test batting average of 40 odd, he was much more than that, incredible slip fielder, the best by a long mile, among the twins he was the natural, it was like cricket came to him and urged rather him sweating out to learn and play cricket.

His average was lower than his brother's because he never played for not outs....he just went for his shots and if he got out he got out....Steve meanwhile would scramble through for singles to put the #11 on strike

Growing up in India, Mark Waugh was my favorite batsman after Sachin. His elegance, his catching and his leg side play was something that every budding cricketer wanted to copy. He may not be fast like Jonty and Punter but his catching was the BEST in my opinion. What a cricketer!

Mark Waugh is one of the most elegant batsmen and one of the best slip fielders during my childhood...Good to see him chatting with Smith. Smith, arguably the best Test batsman in the current generation (and thus, the best in my humble opinion), with his great fielding overshadowed by his batting...great to listen to him about his balance, posture during batting, fielding. Great conversation.

Mark Taylor was the best slip fielder in that great Australian team of the 1990's, especially at 1st slip, yet Mark Waugh was the best fielder in that team, anywhere on the field. Although he's remembered for mainly fielding in the slips, he was great at bat/pad, cover point, mid on, mid off, gulley etc.

Mark Waugh must be the reason the current Australian side are one of the best fielders in the world. There's only so much coaching that one can do to bring a side up - the rest starts from childhood with the understanding and belief of what is possible.

This deep conversation between two greats of the sport is fantastic. Mark Waugh is the most elegant and graceful batsman I've ever seen - he and Damien Martyn vie for the best Australian cover drive to me. However, I think Smith is the better overall batsman. His temperament and discipline remind me more of Steve Waugh, who while not as beautiful, was someone who valued his wicket so well. I think Smith also has more scoring zones. For his greatness off the pads, I don't recall Mark Waugh being a big scorer via the pull or hook.

Love that 3 of the GOAT share the same birthday. Tugga was a stubborn more reserved batsman but put in some brilliant knocks and showed off some awesome shots himself. Junior was like the cheeky fearless younger brother who just loved to show off his awesome party pieces whether batting or fielding. Smudge is such a fantastic batsman who thinks every shot before he has played it. He can never stand still and is always going through his routines out in the middle. What players all of them. Loved the respect and admiration that Junior and Smudge had for each other. Love the Aussies so much and i am a POM ❤😂❤ please sort out an interview with both Tugga and Junior 😊

The thing which edges Smith out for me is that he has played in a tough era for batting. 2013-2017 was flat but since 2018 pitches have been getting harder to bat on. We only have to look at the series just gone against Pakistan to see how hard batting is at the moment.

  • @JaseC80

@@deltabrainwave69I believe it’s not so much, pitches have gotten harder to play on. Although there are a lot more ‘drop in’ pitches. Batsmen aren’t what the ‘Test’ batsmen were like pre 2010. All the batsmen in the modern era can’t weather good hard consistent bowling. They revert to a 20/20 or ODI style batting. In other words they aren’t putting the same value on their wicket as batsmen of the past eras. Play aggressive at good bowling sooner than later one has your wicket on it.
