    I'm just blown away by their repeated design, well, I suppose like they say, if it's not broke, don't fix it. Edit to add, Beautiful Machine, thank you for sharing...I wonder, did it ever sell?

    This is a great video! I have a Coronomatic 2200 that I bought in 1977 for $300 when I got my first job! I just pulled it out of storage and it works like a charm! These are GREAT and FAST machines as you said! Hope you sell it .. I also have a Corona from 1904 with three rows of keys, my first computer! Long Live the Typerwriter .. the ONLY way to do envelopes and forms!

    I loved the Selectric keyboard - best design, ever, hands down. Interestingly, the electric SCM my grandmother bought for our office in the 1960's still works perfectly (it gets serviced regularly) and both our Selectrics are dead and no repair possible. We had two because it seems one was always in need of service.

    Yes, the Smith Coronas are bulletproof, simple design helps with longevity. Your IBM selectrics are 100% repairable (unless dropped), but with 2500 parts (5x more than the SCM) they are prone to needing more service, especially the older they get, IBM recommended refurbishing those every 8 years, generally not a cheap typewriter to maintain

    the power cable on mine was missing but I soldered one on and I did it in such a way if you want you can revert the repair back to how it was before. got this to replace a viking I dropped. im still mad at myself for dropping that beautiful machine gasoline green with many of these same features in what was mint shape

    DID YOU KNOW ... That Turner Broadcasting System used this very typewriter in their on-set newsroom when they first launched CNN2 (now known as Headline News)? Apparently, they didn’t have a big budget back in those days, and couldn’t afford IBM Selectrics!

    Hey Duane! The return key on my Coronamatic 2500 isn't working, and the carriage is sticking at a few spots where it should be moving forward a space. Any idea what it could be?

  • @phoenixtypewriter2136

    @phoenixtypewriter2136

    Yes, but this is a complicated set of gears & clutches. Could be any number of things & some failures break other parts & interfere with basic operation. I have all these parts to restore operation, again, complicated even for a trained typewriter technician. If these otherwise fantastic electrics had a weak point it is the C/R. The manual return versions could & will last decades longer due to the simplicity.

    I bought one of these from a friend for $5. The carriage return is pretty much shot, it seems. It'll return just fine once you've typed a bit, but when it's already positioned at the left margin, it starts making a horrible buzzing sound and gets stuck like that. Oh well.

    Any chance of you making a short video on how you wrap those cords up so nice?? I’ve seen them in several of your videos. Would love to be able to do that. Only if you have time. Thanks again for the great videos. I watch every single one of them. -Dan

    Too funny . . . like 40 yrs ago, I saw many new products come in with cords wrapped like that, so I reversed engineered it, sort of. I remember thinking, what a waste of time, but nope, handy trick I use almost daily ! I'll get a video done shortly.

    When trying to repair the a, q, and 2 keys, I inadvertently flipped the typewriter over and the cartridge mechanism snapped off and a small spring and silver ball bearing fell out. Now I am befuddled as to where either of these two pieces go on the cartridge mechanism? Any guidance would be appreciated. the spring is less than a 1/4 inch long and the ball bearing is small as well.

    Sound like the return mechanism/clutch is blown. The SCM return has more than a few parts that can strip out, so this can definitely can happen. Push carriage to left margin, hard, as if typewriter was doing a carriage return, this should disengage clutch.

    Top shell should come off like the 2500, with some latches, All I can say about the cartridge not sliding out is keep trying, manipulating. Very rarely I have seen the mechanism break, if that happened, then it will need to be repaired
