Pretty long video but I go over basically everything I have to say about the matter at some point. Asmongold and BigFryTV both had reasonable takes. If you are feeling really passionate about your skins and feel especially frustrated, I recommend watching the whole thing and if you still feel that way feel free to yell at me in the comments. But if there’s any lesson to take away from this - microtransactions in video games are a money sink. They aren’t an investment. If you don’t like that, stop supporting games with them. Appreciate y’all ❤

Smite was so poorly programmed from the start it is a miracle the team managed to keep it alive for over a decade. Smite 2 will offer less of everything but will look prettier and have scope for development. Very simple.

Yea to be fair it’s scummy as fuck, but it is what it is. The argument of “small” studio etc etc is outdated and not practical. If a small studio, can produce a FREE game like path of exile, that plays like a $200 game and they have zero problem allowing MTX to cross from title to title… it’s a scummy move, but it’s something You have to accept moving forward. It is what it is, I think it reflects poorly on Hi-Rez, but it also is par for the course when looking at how mid-managed HR is. Sorry, but the bar been set, by a smaller company, with a more complex and larger title. 🤷🏻‍♂️. O well, just allow 5 stacks or the game will die.

@@AutoAlligator I suspect anyone who has spent a considerable amount of money on skins. I've spent around 3k on gems to buy skins. I definitely care that they won't carry over especially the T5 skins but. I understand why they can't port most skins. Also I feel their solution is fair. Especially since any ported Smite 1 skills will be available to buy with 100% legacy gems. Excluding cross over skins which is understandable as well.

The way I see it I was "losing" those skins anyway. Even if smite had somehow stuck around forever I've been feeling increasingly frustrated with the game (probably many of the issues stemming from the limitations of UE3) and would probably have left in the next year or two anyway. Smite 2 has me actually excited about smite again, and will also pull back some friends who had already left. Also re. the smite subreddit: That sub is the most negative part of the smite community. For years they've been complaining about hirez spending time making skins and not fixing the game, calling for them to stop making skins and rewrite the game from the ground up etc. Now hirez are actually doing that and the sub is all "but muh skins". I appreciate those are probably two distinct groups of people within the subreddit but my point is that there's no world where hirez makes that subreddit happy whilst making realistic business decisions.

I don't really feel like this should be controversial. If you want an improved game, then a small sacrifice we probably have to make in order for the game itself to be great is to give the team some grace when it comes to skins. They will drop incredible skins and also get the free legacy gems, I personally like how they have handled it and have no problem with them doing this the way they did.

I love smite. I have nearly 8k hours (started in S3) across multiple platforms, spent decent money on gems, i don't care if they port a SINGLE skin over. smites art team has hard carried Hirez's bottom line and they deserve every cent . They are giving everyone 50% of all their gems and if you get the founder pack it is 100% of their gems spent or unspent... …GENEROUS WOULD BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT. Think smite had good skins? smite 2's skins are going to be better and guess what? you can get the same exact gem worth of the newer better skins. Licenses (ya you don't really own anything its not CS2) for video game cosmetics are not an investment, there is no ROI. They are your way of supporting an otherwise entirely free game. All we should want is for smite 2 to is for it to succeed. That's it that's what you should be hoping for...

Overall, from the outside looking in, I think between Asmon and the video he's watching there are pretty balanced views. I agree with Asmon a lot here. l've spent probably somewhere around $500 on skins my whole time playing smite. It sucks that the skins don't transfer over but, i'd rather have a better final product (that can have potential for growth) and eradicate some of the BS from smite one. I'd like to see some of the skins I bought access to in smite 2 and we might but I'm not going to lay an egg over it. It wasn't going to last forever anyway.

I honestly would rather lose my skins to the game finally having to shut down than a glorified graphical update. Not to mentions many people won't be able to play anymore due to older gen consoles or older pc builds. I'm a quite pissed as I have spent nearly $3k in the game, and with the expectation I would get to use them for the entire lifespan of the game. Smite 2 is not really a new game, it's honestly closer to a major update when the core remains exactly the same. Not getting to purchase new skins in their entirety in Smite 2 with legacy gems is also a slap to the face from Hi-Rez. Losing some of my older favorites that I'm almost certain won't get ported over like many of my skins from my favorite god Scylla sucks, especially cause I have the limited Vampiric skin from 2017 which is one of my favorites and probably won't get ported. This update is welcome for sure by many including me, but everything else about it is honestly fucking terrible from Hi-Rez.

Not having skins from the first game sucks, but it's understandable why it's not a priority considering how resource-intensive remaking all of those skins would be. What I'm a bit disappointed about personally is the fact that the default models haven't gotten any major changes. Sure, they're higher quality and look nice, but I think a lot of them are just fundamentally dated from a design perspective when you compare them to the more recent god models in Smite. I think a good middle-ground would be to remake some of the more popular Smite1 skins for each god and make them available for either direct purchase or with the new legacy token currency.

From their PoV, it makes sense that they need to make money while still having some sort of compromise with the current player base. On TOP of that, they'll double those gems if you buy the founder's pack Given the circumstances, they're giving quite a lot back for something they knew would be frustrating for players I want my skins back, yes. But I want the game to survive, and they can't do that without making money. If there's a better compromise for both the devs and the player base, then letting them know of that better alternative would be a lot better for the game if you're actually a fan of Smite Quiting to support the game = no skins Smite 1 with game's downward trajectory = no skins (eventually) Getting Smite 2 based on what we know = some skins plus discounts I think the answer is pretty clear

@@nikolasgraham7166 " spent them with the expectation I'd have them for the remaining lifespan of Smite" And it's still available on Smite 1, as they are not removing it like Overwatch 1. " Smite 2 is not really a new game, closer to a major update" So, firstly, it is literally a pre-Alpha and what we saw was vastly different. I want you to go look at the videos or posts going over items, that in itself is a bigger change than Smite ever had. A lot of the WIP items actually change how you play, such as one of them making you be able to go stealth on any character. The item system can (and it looks like it is) easily go the Dota or LoL route where actives or passives completely change how a character can play. Secondly, I want you to remember how Smite changed significantly over the last 10 years. It played and felt vastly different 10 years ago, hell even 5 years ago. I think that you saying "it's not a new game" is really strange. It is, functionally and literally, a new game. No one wanted it to be a Paragon 2.0, but they are and can do much much more changes than Smite 1 ever had. We don't even have Hecate fully revealed but we know that she's an UE5 exclusive god with capabilities that were only made possible on UE5. " I can't believe how many of you are not criticizing Hi-Rez more for this. " Most people aren't criticizing TitanForge because most people recognize how shit other companies treat their playerbases. The compensation is far from perfect but it is seriously not the worst that a company has done to their playerbase. 50% discount for like 4-5 years on new and objectively better content bc of legacy gems + founder's pack, being able to 1:1 purchase any remade legacy skin, and getting free shit in the process while getting a sequel that most people thought wouldn't happen is more than fine lmao. People use OW2 as an example of "porting skins" but that is literally the only thing that the game got right. OW1 was put on life-support and genuinely had a lower playerbase than Smite 1 for years on end, and people were told that OW2 was in full development and a big sale was the PvE mode. They then took down OW1 after OW2 came out, completely scrapped said PvE mode, went back on their free hero philosophy and implemented them behind paywalls, completely butchered the monetization and didn't even allow cosmetics at launch from OW1 to be purchased with legacy currency, removed tons of QoL & features, removed 2 maps, and had an extremely rough launch in general that had hero's removed & maps removed. It is so bad that it was review bombed and has like 230k negative reviews. I read r/overwatch a lot and most people would have loved to trade skins for an actual game that wasn't shit. Then there is the transition from Destiny 1 to Destiny 2, which gave players nothing and yet everyone transitioned to Destiny 2. Most games do not have 10 years of concurrent support, and the money you invested in Smite 1 was under the assumption that they would stay there and eventually lose them when the game dies. You get some form of reimbursement on a game that will 100% be totally different than current Smite (like how Smite 1 became different from beta -> S3). "This is mostly a scheme to get at your wallet more while making their life easier since unreal 5 is much easier to work in and they fucked up their code from the get go." Firstly, I don't think you understand that even making Smite 2 was a risk to the developers. They could have easily just kept churning out content on Smite 1 that would be extremely limited, until the game bled it's players completely. That would have been the safe play and would have not ate into profits. If they wanted to "get at your wallet more" they would have just continually to push skins while offering just balance patches and gods. Instead, people with a lot of money, stable careers, etc put that on the line to make Smite 2 which is what pretty much everyone has been asking for, and the current legacy gem set-up already puts them at a loss. I don't usually shill for companies but people were asking for a Smite 2, I can find tons of videos, threads, etc over the past 5 or 6 years begging for Smite 2. Secondly, the people that work on current Smite literally weren't even developers for the game when it was made. That is part of the reason why it's being remade on UE5, as the "foundation of Smite 1" is made like shit with a bunch of gum and duct-tape from people don't even work there anymore. Changing and adding shit to the game became increasingly difficult with every patch. "The player experience prob isn't going to really be that much better, but Hi-Rez fucking prove me wrong," I mean, it can't get worse than it already is lol. There are tons of bugs, instability issues out the ass, crashes, ranked matchmaking is god awful and has a low playerbase, tons of auto desyncs, ghost hits, and whatever whacky shit that feels horrible and janky. The fact that Fineokay was able to vouch for The Morrigan being completely bug free, whenever she was banned for half of her lifespan in pro-play due to bugs, likely means that the player experience will already be better. 🤷‍♂ I mean I get it, it's okay to be cautious, but considering how other companies have treated their playerbase people should be ok with it. It's just a case of people either being spoiled or, hilariously, are the ones being greedy instead of the other way around. When 0 Smite content creators agree with the skin controversy, when Asmongold (the person that usually rides hate trains for content) disagrees with the skin controversies, and when most players talking about the game disagree, it's clear that it is a vocal minority that actually cares about losing skins over a new game.

Skins and aesthetics are very important to me and is like half of the reason I play some of these games, Ik I'm a minority in that, most people only care about gameplay. But as for Smite 1 isn't going down, it's because Hi-Rez doesn't want to crash. Whichever game does better, the other will get killed, so I don't expect to both still existing a year after EA gets released for Smite 2. One or the other is getting shutdown I'm sure. I just wish maybe at least 20% of the gems would be real gems so I can at least get a few skins as I don't see myself spending anymore on it, I was kinda done already before the announcement, felt content with what I had. Just a side effect of the sunk cost fallacy tbh. I'm frankly more concerned for the opposite; I'm looking at a potential risk of Smite 2 feeling too basic at launch if not all gods get ported over and they don't have some kind of skin system already in place, which would make existing players decide to stick to smite 1 (for the time being). Hirez needs to do this right, I do think the legacy gems are a step in the right direction, just hoping we'll be able to buy another god pack as well.

From my perspective, I’m a person who just got tired of the game for various reasons a few years ago, and the AMOUNT of skins was an issue for me back then - it’s an entire chore to keep up with what goofy skin belongs to what character in game. A ton of them didn’t even fit the characters, or made them look like an entire other character to begin with. It ended up making the game feel cheap and more like a meme over time, and I know I’m not alone on this because I’ve heard others echo this sentiment. After hearing recently about smite 2, at first I figured that it would just be smite 1.5 as has been the standard in gaming lately. Seeing that they’re actually hitting a reset and legitimately upgrading the game from a fundamental level is what actually intrigues me to pay attention going forward, and likely give it a shot. To me, the reset is a positive, despite the hundreds I spent on skins over the years. I don’t want smite 1.5, I want the sequel if I’m going to give it another go. And, I hope that comes with some actual character reworks in visuals and kits for some underwhelming designs like hades, personally. This is the perfect opportunity to update things like that.

Only thing i really care about is the T5's , i can live with losing most of my skins and staring again but those are the ones that matter to me the most. im not demanding or anything like that im just asking. i feel like a lot of the people who only want T5's skins ported are getting lumped in with the ones who want every skin ported which is totally unreasonable btw. Even if hirez was willing to do it after the game fully released i would be more than grateful even if it was only the limited ones or worse case only the skins from the charity events. They could even rerelease the unlimited ones as a way to get people to spend alot of there legacy gems. i think a lot more people wouldnt mind the fact that most the skins dont transfer if they at least got their T5's somewhere down the road even if its a year or two after smite 2 has launched

At first, I was honestly pissed that skins weren't transferring. After hearing why, however, and their decision to give us gems for the new game, I think that's a very good ground they didn't need to do. The fact that we can spend these gems for only half the skin cost was iffy, but it also makes sense. They need the money, simply put. That said, I am still a little wary. Smite has been increasing costs slowly but steadily for a while now and the fact is that it's just not great. They have the best lootbox system that can exist, in that there's only a little bit of random trash in each chest, but if they monumentally increase the cost of skins in smite 2 like LoL has then I'm not certain I'll be as down for it. That's more 'me worried about a company trying to make too much off their fanbase' though, and that's something I always worry about with games. My actual big concern was whether we can get a smite gods thing that lets us buy once for all current and future gods, like smite 1, instead of a sub service or needing to buy each one individually. I specifically don't play other mobas because unlocking gods in smite was so simple, clean and customer friendly that I just wanted to keep trying it. So learning there is an option like that makes me very happy.

I'm still frustrated by the most recent marketing for few skins.

as someone super involved at the beginning of overwatch 2, its wild that people are trying to make this into a big thing. 1. large engine changes did NOT occur with overwatch. everything was ported over because it was built off of the existing game. smite 2 is going to be built from ground up, and nothing will be able to be properly "ported" over. 2. smite will still be live. these skins are not "lost". even if it will inevitably go offline, to pretend that the release of smite 2 will cause you to lose cosmetics is ridiculous. 3. it will not be profitable to recreate all of the skins, most of which are not great/worth the investment. im sure there will be some recreation of the best legacy skins, but most of them are not worth it. 4. the biggest thing that people complained about with overwatch 2 was blizzard's SEVERE lack of communication. HiRez has been EXTREMELY clear and upfront about many of the concerns and curiosities that the community had/will have, and the game isn't even in alpha. We have to realize that even if they aren't doing everything to our expectations, the fact that they have so far been super clear about whats going on is admirable in the current games market. this whole deal is ridiculous to me. mild disappointment about skins makes sense, but cmon, be real

This way they can focus on the slow god roll-out, balance changes, and other important things that will have to be done w/ Smite 2 and the player base won't cry about missing gods, modes, ect. Do I think it's the best decision? No... but if it's that bad I have faith they'll adress it.

I'm excited for Smite 2 because of how much potential there is to try new things with abilities, items, or other mechanics on a new engine. They've already stated how they can quickly code and test something in the game just to try it out. There's so much that they can do with that. I've bought a lot of skins over the years, and I don't really mind they aren't coming over to Smite 2. I like Smite, and I wanted to support the company that makes it so I bought the skins I liked to do that. The only skins I wish they would 100% port over are the T5s just because they cost the most for people and mosy of them mean a lot to the community. Perhaps that is something they can revist over the years. Imagine the hype if they re-released a S1 T5 skin and gave it for free as a bonus for their dedicated long-time players that already owned the skin in S1. I can see them announcing something like that at Worlds.

Things I don't believe Hi-Rez will fix with Smite 2, but REALLY HOPE are addressed: 1. Bugs - I don't wanna deep dive into this topic since I work in software development as well but I believe the game will be absolutely buggy. This is cause I don't think Hi-Rez have a dedicated QA Engineering team. Only alpha and beta users being responsible for the quality of a product is usually a joke. 2. Hackers and cheaters - Hi-Rez has never addressed that issue in the past and it won't be addressed now. Hackers will once again flourish with the excuse it's lag or server issues, etc. 3. Server issues - I don't know why but it's like Hi-Rez are straight up honest about not wanting to invest anything... So, the servers will still be absolutely terrible. 4. I don't think matchmaking will ever be fixed. I know more players need to be attracted to improve, but with Smite's matchmaking it has never been the case about improving but JUST BAD DECISIONS 5. I am quite certain that Hi-Rez won't listen to the community and will make the same mistakes with Smite 1 in a lot of aspects. 6. Balancing of the game will remain poor just as in Smite 1 due to whatever reasons. 6.1. Gods will be losing their identities when certain METAS occur and basically won't be relevant for years, overpowered God releases that will destroy gaming experience, etc. Same things as in Smite 1. 7. Bonus unfun things: new cool features will be left unfinished or forgotten basically, unclear idea of what Smite 2 is, splitting the player base,

I just want Smite 2 to be a success. I have loved smite for a very long time and I am looking forward to the new skins they put out for it. and no I'm not rich, not at all lol. When it was first announced I was definitely kinda frustrated that skins weren't transferring over. After the initial feelings faded though I was able to more calmly assess smite 2. I've been saying they should rebuild the game from the ground up for years and if I gotta lose some pixels for that to happen then sure that's fine. I do think something to maybe be frustrated about would be skins and monetization from the end of year 10. People just buying like the new vshojo skins or whatever other collabs or events going on in like December just to turn around and have all of those not be in smite 2. I understand why but at the same time I can understand the people buying those things feeling a little more cheated. I'm all for smite 2, losing my skins while unfortunate is at least leading to (hopefully) a significant improvement in the game through smite 2. Really as long as my God masteries are carried over (which I believe they have said is happening) I'm happy.

I haven’t been around the smite community for very long, I started playing around the time Chernobog got released and I’ve spent a little over $100 on smite for skins. The only thing I’ve bought was the izanami tier 5 bundle because I enjoyed the character. It sucks that I lose out a bit but I think it would be neat if they slowly cranked out the tier 5 skins in waves. It shouldn’t be the first priority but I think it would be neat if they did. Granted I don’t know what skins Hi-res is transferring so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Regardless, I have friends that are gonna want to play smite 2. Edit: good video overall

To me here's the best way to explain or a good comparison to the whole Smite 2 situation. Imagine you have a car, it has nice heated seats that are comfortable and great for when it's cold. But the engine is a junker and put puts and could break down at any time. You trade it (for free btw) for a brand new car that has no engine problems and could run well for years, but oh no it doesn't have the heated seats the junker had. Is that really you losing something, is that really a downgrade? Because if you really care and enjoy Smite then the running engine is more important than the heated seats.

  • @Nuttin_Crazy

    @Nuttin_Crazy

That example isnt quite right since heated seats actually change the experience. It would more be like, you got an expensive gold wrap and wheels on a 2006 toyota corolla, and they are moving to a 2023 corolla and giving a 50% discount on wraps based on how much you spent on your 2006 wrap.

Hey fineokay I watched the whole thing and I have to say it was a great video. There were a lot of good points and insights. I agree with the way you put it more than I do Asmongold. Micro-Transactions aren’t perfect, but I think it’s unfair to call someone dumb for buying them. I like how you said they can be a way someone shows their support for a game. I like your comparison of micro-transactions are like candy, but I prefer the comparison to movies. With a movie you can go see a movie in the theater or buy it later. In the theater you spent n amount of dollars for x amount of minutes of entertainment. The same thing can be said about skins in smite. You spent n amount of dollars on a skin for x amount of minutes of entertainment using the skin. If you really like the skin you can get a lot of minutes or hours of enjoyment for the amount of money you spent on it. Over time just as rewatching a movie may make it boring so can using the same skin. Some people don’t care about movies or love rewatching them, just as some people don’t care about skins or use the same skin all the time. Just because someone’s source of entertainment comes from micro-transactions that doesn’t make it lesser than those who like movies or other forms of entertainment. I think a lot of Hi-Rez’s business decisions are smart and will be great for smite. I especially like the legacy gems from a business perspective. It encourages current players to switch to Smite 2 or old players to come back and try out Smite 2. It encourages players to spend money without forcing players to spend money. In order to use all the legacy gems in Smite 2, a player would have to buy the same amount of gems as they have legacy gems. Those gems will go twice as far, but they still will be getting money from the player. It also can be a bit of a 10 year cash boom for Hi-Rez. If a player buys only $15 of gems every year that’s 800 gems over 10 years. That adds up to $150 and 8000 legacy gems in Smite 2. In Smite 2 that player may think well if I bought the $100 bundle for 8000 gems right now, then I would save $50 in the long run. Yeah Hi-Rez might lose money to that player in the long run giving that the player now has essentially 16000 gems for only $100 and they may never buy gems again, but it’s that quick boom of money that matters right now. That extra boom of money going to Hi-Rez can be super useful. It can be used to buy more servers both in the US and around the world to reach a broader audience, and/or it can be used for more marketing to reach the players that have never heard of Smite or Smite 2. It’s reaching those players that Hi-Rez can start to make their money. That boom of money can also be shown as a form of hope for the higher ups to continue to support Smite. I’m so excited for Smite 2 I think it’ll be fun to explore the game and see how the meta turns out. It reminds me of early season 8 with the addition of starter items and map changes. It was incredibly fun trying out and watching streamers try out new things.

@@Gongall It's how you show support towards a game like smite you enjoy. "It's stupid" it's what lets people like you enjoy the game for free. Nothing has changed or will change that doesn't happen every season. Pretending a seasonal updated is a sequel is extremely stupid.

@@AimbotFreak Exactly, its how you show support. I never said buying skins was stupid, dont put words in my mouth, I said expecting them to remain forever was stupid. People seem to forget that all the skins in Smite are a culmination of 10 years of work. Think of how much work went into every skin, how many hours people put into their jobs to code, animate, voice and rig every single skin in the game.

I wish the old skins could be ported over but I appreciate that they're giving us gems for them and a discount, that's more than many other companies have done. The skins in smite 2 will be a lot better anyway. Hopefully they can figure out something for the tier 5s tho. Im more concerned about splitting manpower and the playerbase between 1 and 2. People are just super entitled and think they deserve everything without actually thinking about things from other perspectives.

them giving us EVERY single gem we have ever spent is the best way to make this work, we don't feel cheated, it's a shame we will lose so many crossover skins and so many iconic skins. but it isn't a deal breaker my issue is that they said they plan to shake up the game, gods getting new abiltes and all that. it won't be the smite i've played 885 hours of, if i was still in my gaming prime this would be upseting as all my insight and knowagle would be tossed out the window. i hated it when zeus changed i hated it when skadi ult got changed. now every god is in hirezs crosshair. edit i hate that its even called smite 2, as if smite 1 will still be supported, it's like csgo 2 it's csgo with a fresh coat of paint why couldn't we just say hey we overhalled csgo if we arent being given a option of what game we choose to play to further add they know they are doing smite 2 and have been for a whille yet still sell new skins in smite 1 why a gem cell? were getting fucked axed. they gave us a free t5 skin only to say hey these skins are gone btws tldr, it's gonna be annoying having to wait for the gods you play to come out in smite 2, and you also now have to pray their kit isn't chnaged from what you loved. smite 1 will have your fav gods whille smite 2 will just be a new game for everyone. we lose our stats our progress and anything else. smite adding runescape skins that you can grind for and unlock capes for only for it to only last a few months. i just dont like the fact they knew smite 2 was coming and they kept jiggling new skins in front of us

I maintain the biggest problem with smite 2 is that it's smite 2. If they want to make a new moba on a new engine they should make a new game. With smite 2 they're not just competing with themselves, they're competing with their only successful property in a way that if smite 2 fails there's no going back to smite 1. They're trying to capture a new audience in an industry where developers say it's nearly impossible to grasp new players long term and I really don't think it will work out because new players will still be warded off by the complicated god and build system and old players will be warded off because the game won't have the same amount of characters, modes or skins. Even if Hirez sticks to their one old god brought over every 2 weeks that's still a long time and since smite 1 will still be up a lot of players will just gravitate back to that but since it won't get updates they wont be spending any money so how does Hirez plan to put out enough content to get old and new players to stick when neither group has a reason to stay before they've sunk all of their money into trying? My biggest frustration is not that they're taking away my skins, whatever I enjoyed smite 1 for thousands of hours and don't really play anymore or buy new ones. It's that they're trying to make what's supposed to be a new game that's going to be as far as the characters I'm playing almost exactly the same as the old game, but now I have to rebuy those characters and buy new skins for those characters with the caveat that I get a 50% off coupon to buy skins I already had one I was happy with for a god I already enjoyed and spent my time on And you bet your sweet bippy if they try to have events that remake old popular and t5 skins so they can resell them to you I'm dropping the hell out of smite 2 and hope the company rots

Personally i don't play much because the playerbase has drastically gotten worst over the years, pretty hard to find a match with 10 people trying to work together let alone understanding moba aspects of the game. They just run it down and try to get kills >.>

The point about Web3 and “owning” your skins reminds me of how I knew Roblox was gonna be a hit way back in 2008. Looking at Fortnite following their footsteps w their creator mode and s&box makes it clear to me that players want the “platform” style gaming center which gives tons of agency but don’t like the idea of a monopoly developer.

This is too funny… I have over 1700 skins, been playing since s1…and frankly it hurts to “lose” all the skins, but I don’t see them as items I own… I see it as I’ve been paying to support hirez. So they can continue to fund their game that I liked playing. It would be nice to have a marketplace for skins like csgo/cs2/pubg … but I’m fine with it, I kinda wish the skins were more reasonably priced so more people could justify (internally)purchasing them… more money for hirez means more support for a game we *hopefully* love… and we’ve been saying it from the beginning “fix your game low-rez” … they finally are!

35:40 I think it’s definitely “ideal” for everyone. Now im saying this before i watch the rest of the video so you may have come to the conclusion already but the goal of smite 2 is not to make people buy old skins, its to expand the player base and get a bigger audience. In turn getting them more profit. If they could port all the skins and make them look amazing in the new system it would allow older players to want to move over and get rid of the need for a smite 1, so now you get rid of a big issue of splitting the player base. But also the people in the past that have kept smite afloat for this long will continue to do so for the future of smite 2 because they don’t feel backstabbed. so you aren’t losing money there at all. Not only that but new players will be able to pick up the game, see all these cool skins and cross overs and just really neat things that other players have and it till incentivize them to play more and pay money to get cool skins aswell. So now you’re really making money. It’s sorta the opposite of what you said earlier, porting old models over with out change will actually turn new players away because it looks cheap. Well if they already have a back log of really amazing and cool skins that look the quality of the UE5 skins then it will draw new plays in and make them want to pay to get them.

Been playing Smite for around 8 years and I always leaving in a year or two anyway. Just due to the frustrations of Smite in general and the gameplay being (at least for me) repetitive. Now I'm so excited for Smite 2. I've spent around 500 dollars in gems in Smite. I always knew that money was GONE and never coming back to me in anyway. So the Gem deal in Smite 2 seems like a generous gift for loyal fans.

I only skins that I think are worth the value of actually transferring over would be the t5s they were effectively 100$ skins and they should be available for legacy gems if you had them in smite 1 and for full price for smite 2 I would even be OK with them not being half off with legacy gems like making it one or the other just flagged by if you've already bought it

36:20 The problem that people aren’t addressing is that I don’t even know if I want every GOD to transfer over from 1 to 2, let alone every skin. Some gods are fundamentally flawed, and definitely either need a rework or a complete overhaul. And I imagine that, as they are completely overhauled in 2, some of them are going to have complete visual reworks, making some smite 1 skins entirely obsolete.

It does suck that i'll be losing my skins but it's honestly not profitable to remake all the skins especially if some weren't well sellers ESPECIALLY if it's going to take over 250 years to finish it it's not worth it. The only skins i'd want ported over really are t5 and the cross-over event skins
