+tremorsfan. Unfortunately, much of the world could not see “How the West Was Won” in Cinerama. Only in 35mm Cinemascope. 😥

I own this Blu ray! The Smilebox edition is awesome, everything should be in Smilebox.

Saw it as a kid at Hollywood Cinerama in Portland, Oregon. No wonder I still remember it. Well done!

I just bought a projector and screen to go along with these CINERAMA movies. Nothing compares with our computer generated universe: 360 degree CINERAMA!

This is hugely impressive. Am I right in thinking that you've recreated the original trailer using the restored version, shot for shot? If so, it's a tremendous achievement. I love all your Smilebox trailers. Brilliant stuff.

Nope, this is from the 2008 bluray. BUT I have shot for shot matchbacked the trailer to the 2.89 release!!! This Smilebox is only 2.69 I believe.

I have a number of these Smilebox titles. I also own a Cinera vr movie viewer..which mostly mimics large format & large format 3D. If you link this up to any number of Sony 3D capable blu ray players...then go into the simulated 3D mode on the player & re converge for maximum depth..it favors the smilebox curve..up to a point..without simulating 3D per se. The end result except for the outer edges..looks like cinerama if you were sitting halfway in a cinerama theatre...maybe closer to what was the warner hollywood in past years rather than the cinerama dome. Not quite perfect but a nice approximation. An app to make it happen accurately would be even better..but pretty cool if you don't have the space for a deep curve screen or the budget for a high end projector or the optics to ho with it.

Awesome i love widescreen its the best thing in cinema. I wish i couldve seen this in cinerama. This is a great channel.

I thought there were still three Cinemas that show it on the proper curved screen. Oh maybe I'm wrong, Wikipedia says it's four: The Pictureville Cinema at the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford, England The New Neon Cinema in Dayton, Ohio (I didn't know about this one - is it still showing Cinerama?) The Seattle Cinerama in Seattle Pacific Theatres’ Cinerama Dome in Hollywood

I'm kinds of unhappy I can't like this more than once... Also any chance of doing the full version of the white-water rafting scene? Stunt work at its dangerous best...

I'll have to check again, but, I don't think in the anniversary smile box blu - ray version that the previews were in smile box.

I have been wondering. Maybe one could pair smilebox with 3D encoding to get the stereoscopic depth intended from the curved screen presentation but on a flat projection screen. Either put the center at screen depth and let the edges pop out of the screen. Or keep the edges on screen level and let the center reach into the screen... if you just get the z depth channel right I guess you could do it quite simply since we'd not have to worry about rotoscoping and things like that like in regular 2D to 3D conversions because you'd only need to get the 3D of the virtual screen right. I'd also love to see a curved screen experience in VR. Again, technically not that difficult but as far as I know, noone has attempted a VR player that can correctly remap and display smilebox footage on a virtual curved screen.
