[SMG ABC] Throwback Galaxy 1 "Return of the Whomp King" - 0xA (7xA) [Mario]

So me and Cheese were talking in the ABC discord about how useful enemy manipulation was, and I was like "Lol what if we brought a bunch of goombas down to the whomp fight to get the star" and then we realized that would actually work - So I took a break from the W1 project to TAS this and it's actually pretty sick
By far the hardest part to TAS was getting the goombas off of the elevator, but there were a lot of finnicky parts, especially the bossfight and trying to align the goombas for the star collection, which is actually really tight
Some improvements I could've made timewise:
1. For some reason I thought I had to spin the goombas all the way to the elevator but midway through TASing I realized I could just have them chase me, so that's why I spin the first goomba for a bit near the top of the slope/stairs
2. I don't think I actually need to get off and then get back on the Whomp for the 2nd and 3rd hits, which probably wasted at least a minute or something
I do wonder what else would be possible with this, it's definitely a pretty cool strat. Maybe on par with the Whomp King star in SM64?

Part of me wishes that Whomp King's AI was coded so that if you tried to get on top of him while he was standing, he would run over to the edge, & try to throw you off the arena.

I’m glad they brought back the womp king for a remastered fight but I just wish he didn’t always walk SO close to you and spawn his minions where he kills them in the next second.
This is the probably the coolest bossfight in the game now. Great job

Not gonna lie this level hit me in the heart strings, anyone else? Like the way he expressed his feelings and feel invalidated all these years by use made me actually Sad Sad, like awee I wish I could make them feel more worthy and know we're grateful, also help them to feel like they matter. We'll I'm never looking at Concrete the same🥺😅

What does "0xA (7xA)" mean? Something to do with unskippable A presses like text?

Yeah the 7 A presses are for the dialogue - Most of the dialogue and menuing in the game requires the A button so usually we split it into Gameplay A Presses and Total A Presses - Although there are some circumstances where you can use gameplay A presses to skip dialogue, usually the Gameplay ones are the ones people actually care about
That's the whomps fortress played by super Mario 64
