Smena 8M quick review CMEHA 8M

Far more capable than mom's Instamatic and definitely not a toy, this is an impressive little plastic gem for the discerning communist consumer.

    I had his camera many years ago and i shot thousands photos. In my schoolyears I always had in in my backpack. It was simple and always gave me good photos. Realtion between price, quality and funcionality was perfect. Thanks to this camera now I can look at the faces of my relatives that passed away long time ago. Best Regards from Poland.

    I'm extremely grateful for this video. Just bought an 8m and a symbol and will take them out for a big test walk tomorrow. No one else explained zone focusing, the hyperfocal distance and the aperture settings like you did! Straight to the point yet thorough and detailed! Truly a gem of a video! - Cheers from Greece!

    It's interesting how so many people buy both 8M and Symbol. I consider doing the same. They are very similar and at the same time very different. Greetings from Russia where these used to be made.

    Haha my brother received this little camera as his Christmas gift in 1988... we were under 10 these days! 100% manual, greatly helps to understand basics of photo shooting. Certainly required skills to operate and produced smooth, warm pictures.

    The lens objective in this camera was made of glass lenses , not a plastic. It was surprisingly sharp objective with high resolution in the center and very good resolution near the edges.

    The lens on this camera is incredible, I couldn't believe the results, incredible. And, yes, be careful with your finger position and, unwanted double exposures...!!! There's the Contax (Kiev-4) grip, and, there's the Smena grip!

    Hi Brian, I got a question. It's my first time using analogue film camerasand while on travel, somebody gifted me this camera :) . Now I'm trying to take my first few photos. But every time I do a photo and I turn on the black wheel I hear at some point a light click. do I need to stop here or wind more until it really stops?

    I'm not certain. Consider your first roll of film as a test. Try it both ways. This is a simple camera but it can be quirky. Rest assured, once you get the hang of it, it will be worth it. The Smena produces some great images with wonderful character.

    My focusing lens seems to be jammed- i can't twist it and it's slightly hidden inside the camera. Any ideas on how to fix this?

    I'm afraid not. Smenas re so inexpensive, I'd just buy another one. But don't throw away the broken one. The lens can be salvaged for use on mirrorless cameras.

    My lens seems to be loose, i want to use it but I need to be sure about the focusing, I can unscrew and rescrew it perfectly but pass through all the distances twice so something is wrong, how does focusing on it feel like you for you?

    Depends on the weather. Seriously. The grease can dry up or congeal and really foul things up.

    @@BriansPhotoShow There were flash for it a cube with 4 flashlihts in it that you rotate, you clicked it with adapter on that metal part on the left top, and then you connect it with that pin on the leftside of the lens.My late mum used to have like this one, not sure what I did with it. I know we exchanged it and bought a Minolta AF-Z 35 mm was expensive at that time . Which I still own. So this camera reminds me of my late mom, what also used to happen is you forgot to scroll the film and ended up with 2 pictures in one.

    Is it possible to use with hight iso film, like 800 or 1600?

  • @BriansPhotoShow

    @BriansPhotoShow

    3 жыл бұрын

    Of course. You can use any 35mm film. With a top shutter speed of 1/250, you won't get good exposure outside on a sunny day, though.

  • @fasol1998
    @fasol199810 ай бұрын

    2:10 Not really. Earlier versions would have a ГОСТ/ASA mark or ГОСТ only instead of ГОСТ/ISO. ГОСТ is the Soviet state standard. The German DIN was more common in the USSR than ASA because it was used in the DDR as well. And ISO probably appeared later than this model's production started.

    @@jakekaywell5972 yep. I got kievs salyuts zorkies semnas lubitels, all the working ones are made from at least 2 cameras. Even the part cameras i bought "like new cin the box" they did not work directly from the factory. I even got a zorki 4 with the receipt ( and some zil i-don't-know flash) the original owner got it in 6 payments, so it was pretty expensive... and the camera dose not work :)) I got electronics too. things like laboratory grade oscilloscopes thd meters and so on... But yes electronics in french or italian cars are a damn joke. I don't see many older ones tho as here The s.h market is almost all german. but who know maybe they rusted away... :))
