    Do you have any information about the Smena 7? Compared to the ones I've seen it has a picture of a sun no lines in it, sun with lines in it, cloud with no lines in it, cloud with lines in it, and a rain cloud symbol. These are where the numbers should be at like on this camera, But those are by the shutter cock mechanism. Any information you can provide would be most helpful.

    I know I'm very late, but I think it can be usefull for somone else in future. So from the very beginning.. how can Smena 8 have another edition?? Smena 8 is another model itself, so it can't have another edition. On the front of the camera it should have it's name, but since it may be original soviet one, instead of Smena it can be Cмена. check the model, and then you can google exact information about that particular one you have.

    I have this camera, but I'm not sure if it'll be obvious when to stop advancing the film with the reel... when there's no film in it, the reel never stops or clicks. Is it normal, and will be different when I put film in it, or it might be malfunctioning? And will it advance the used frames automatically on the counter window?

  • @FilmCameras

    @FilmCameras

    3 жыл бұрын

    When you have a film inside the advance mechanism will lock at every frame until you take the photo. Without a film the sprockets do not engage and the advance wheel will turn without stopping.

    hi! i just recently found this camera amongst my grandfather's old things and i really want it to work but sadly when i press the button the shutter lever doesn't jump back all the way, only a little. if i give it a small push it goes into it's place though. i tried it with film and without, same problem. i was wondering if maybe you had any idea what could cause this (like.. did i load the film wrong or something?) and if it's fixable.

  • @FilmCameras

    @FilmCameras

    If the shutter lever goes back in place with a push and the photo is taken, then it probably needs some oiling to run smoothly. Also check if the self timer lever is in its place (2:37 in this video). But if the problem continues you should take it for a repair. In any case do not apply lot of force to any of the mechanisms.

    i have this exact camera, just with the original russian cyrillic writing at the top, and i love it! however i have a problem, the shutter button at the top of the camera has become stuck and won't come back up. also, the shutter lever by the lens jumps back up to it's original position right after i try to press it. i can still take photographs with it (and with the timer) but people have advised me not to do it like that since apparently the photo will come out blurry that way. is there a fix for these problems?

  • @FilmCameras

    @FilmCameras

    Make sure the shutter button is not pressed in and rotated (see 4:05 ) in rewinding position. If this is the case, push and rotate counter-clockwise to release it. If this is not the case, then the mechanism might be broken. Try taking some photos the way you describe and you might get some proper images. If the lever jumps back, it might actually retain the shutter speed you choose, and the photos will be fine.

  • @FilmCameras

    It is a very cheap and very easy to use camera, so you could try it as a first experience for sure. But the quality of the images will not be excellent as in a professional camera. Also, because these cameras often have problems, you have to make sure that the one you have works properly. But generally, it is very simple and fun to use and you can certainly give it a try!

    If you don't have an empty spool you can find one easily in a photography store. They usually have many spare from used film which they don't need. The spool is the interior of a 35mm film canister. So if they have spare canisters or used 35mm films you can always find one.

    Try the following very carefully and with this order: Cock the shutter and put your finger on it so that it won't move at all. Then press the shutter release button and keep it pressed all the time. Make sure that the cock shutter hasn't moved at all. Now with both of these levers pressed, try pushing with your finger the self timer lever back to its place. It might be a bit hard but you should hear the gears working. If it manages to go back to its place, then the camera will work properly, but avoid using the self timer. If nothing of the above works don't force it because it is very sensitive, and better take it to a repair shop.

    @@FilmCameras thanks for the quick response! Just one more question: where is the light meter located? I'm having a difficult time understanding how to calculate the exposure value.

  • @FilmCameras

    @FilmCameras

    4 жыл бұрын

    There is no light meter. You'll have to calculate it manually, or buy an external light meter. You always start with the ISO of the film you have inside. The film ISO is standard and can't be changed. So by taking this into account, you continue by setting the aperture and shutter speed values. There are several rules, depending on the lighting conditions, that you can follow and that you can find online, but as a beginner you can always use a digital camera as a light meter for help. Keep in mind that this camera was designed for amateur use, so unless you choose something completely wrong, you won't have any serious problem. Plus it is a very simple and good camera to exercise and learn using film. Keep notes of your settings for each photo you take and once you develop the film, evaluate the result.

  • @FilmCameras

    @FilmCameras

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@ozgegizemyerlikaya5258 In all analogue cameras there is no ISO setting. The ISO is a fixed characteristic of the film you are going to buy and use inside the camera. When you buy film you can choose a specific type of ISO you want, which means the film's chemical sensitivity to light. It is not like in digital cameras where you can change the ISO at any time. Once you have the film inside the camera you have just the film's ISO. The only control you have with the camera is the shutter speed and the aperture.

  • @FilmCameras

    Smena 7 is the same but more simplified version of Smena 8 shown in this video. The only differences are that Smena 7 doesn't have self-timer ( 2:37 of this video) and also doesn't have a film reverse knob ( 4:13 ). So when the film ends you need to open the camera in total darkness and manually rewind the film back to the cassette. Otherwise, the functions are the same as in this video!

    While taking photos, why do we advance the film until it stops? I thought that was to be done with experience of how much space there is between two shots with regard to the fact that the wheel doesn't stop until the end of the whole film. So my question is actually- how is it possible that wheel stops?

  • @FilmCameras

    @FilmCameras

    4 жыл бұрын

    When you open the back you can see that there is a small turning gear which fits the perforations of the film once you insert it. I don't know exactly how, but this gear is somehow made to stop every one frame and its connected to the shutter release button. So the gear can only be released to turn, only if you take a photo. It is all a combination of springs and gears to make these mechanisms work.

    It was my first camera in 8th class of basic school. I made lots of pictures, many of them became precious archive shots today. Everything worked perfectly on this cheep camera except the objectif. The quality of the lens is poor, even in comparison with its price. With aperture of less than 8, it was practically not possible to get a sharp image. It's funny. Beause of that, I thought longtime that this poor sharpness is due to the film format, so my next camera was the famous Czech Flexaret for 6x6 cm film. Only 10 years later, when I saw the shoots of a frend's Exacta, I realised that even with 36 mm large film, there is possible to get nice shoots.
