    Great video! I started using this camera recently, (haven't seen any pics I took yet) and I didn't know I had to wind the film advance knob first :( I think sometimes I'd chosen shutter speed before doing that and somehow I thought I still took a picture successfully. What did it do to the picture or to the camera if I chose shutter speed first?

  • @FilmCameras

    @FilmCameras

    4 жыл бұрын

    If you took photos without winding the advance knob you will result with overexposed pictures and double exposures and the image will be messy. But sometimes the double exposure result can be creative if intended. Choosing speed before winding might result in wrong exposure times and if being done continuously, it might damage the shutter speed permanently. But if you've done it just a few times, after a couple of shots with correct use, there will probably be no problem at all.

    Hi! I have a FED-5 (which looks similar in construction from what I’ve seen). Seeing your SMENA 8M video, is it advisable to use a piece of tape on the film take up spool instead of putting it in the slot or no? Thanks in advance!

  • @FilmCameras

    @FilmCameras

    3 жыл бұрын

    Fed 3 uses a different take up spool than the one in Smena cameras. If yours looks like the one in this Fed 3 video you won't have any problem because they usually are very firm. But in Smena sometimes it is easy for the film to slip out while advancing it for the first time. So to make sure it stays in place you can tape it if you like. But after rewinding remember to remove the tape, or cut the taped edge.

    Got a question, I'm using praktica fx 2 here After winding the film, I have turned the shutter speed knob several times without going back. Is that okay? Or should I go back all the way around like this fed 3 camera (between 30 and 1)

  • @FilmCameras

    @FilmCameras

    3 жыл бұрын

    Not 100% sure, but I think that in Praktika fx2 there is no problem to turn it both ways. After all, in Fed the knob cannot turn and is blocked between those two, that is why there is a chance to brake it if you force it. But if in Praktika the knob turns, then you should probably have no problem.

    Hi. Try using the camera without film, according to the instructions in this video. It is not that easy to brake it. Probably after using it properly a few times, everything will be fine. Perform the actions a couple of times as you see them in the video, and then you can test the camera with a film and see what results you are getting.

    What if i don't see the alignment? Could this be my camera is not good?

  • @FilmCameras

    @FilmCameras

    3 жыл бұрын

    Maybe the rangefinder needs to be repaired, but it must be done by a specialist to be precise with the distance. But even if the alignment doesn't work, you can still use the distance indications on the lens along with a smaller aperture to be sure you have a largest depth of field.

    Hey, I need help I did all of the steps and managed to capture few shots, but after some time my shooter doesn’t work. When I roll the first nob, the knob that you press for taking a pic doesn’t work. Also, I can’t rewind film back, what do I do?

  • @FilmCameras

    @FilmCameras

    2 жыл бұрын

    First of all check if by mistake, the outer ring of the shutter button was pressed to rewind position (see 7:16 on this video). This prevents the shutter button from working. If that is not the case, then try pushing it yourself, and try to rewind the film a bit. Put it back in place and see if the camera works. Finally, make sure that you've got pictures left. Maybe the film has reached its end. If nothing of the above works, then there might be a problem with the film, so you can try opening the camera in *total* darkness and try gently to remove the film. Always with in rewind mode. Don't force anything because the film might snap.

    I accidentally adjusted my shutter before shooting. Now my film counter seems messed up. Is this something that is repairable?

  • @FilmCameras

    @FilmCameras

    2 жыл бұрын

    If the counter is not correct any more just ignore it. Next time you load a film and you set it anew it will be fine. You might also experience some shutter speed inaccuracies (it might fire at a different speed than the one you choose). But it will fix itself eventually (if this indeed happened). When you finish the film and you take it out of the camera, try checking all the shutter speeds with the back open, in order to see if everything is ok.

  • @FilmCameras

    @FilmCameras

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@trelane985 Yes, it is like taking photos, but when you load the film all this portion you are pulling across inside (2:00) is exposed to light and that part becomes useless. So when you load the film and you close the back, you advance it 3 times, so as the exposed part will roll and the film will move on to the unexposed part which will be able to properly record an image.

  • @FilmCameras

    @FilmCameras

    3 жыл бұрын

    The most common cause of light leaks in these cameras is that when you close the back, it didn't slide properly and the the top part of the back slightly overlapped the metal part of the camera. Otherwise, there might be some small damage on the body. If you can't find a solution then you should try adding some thick black adhesive tape around the back edges.
