Smeg DI612CA9 Dishwasher E1 Acquastop Fault repair
How to fix the E1 Fault "Acquastop Failure" on Smeg dishwashers. Acquastop is an anti-flooding system which is tripped in case of water collecting in the base of the machine, the fault is signified by an audible alarm and flashing of the left hand indicator light. This is the first time this fault happened on my machine so I haven't tried to identify any leaks, just cleaned up the water to allow the machine to work again. Obviously, if the fault recurs a more permanent repair will be needed.

And saving wallets
David you have just become my HERO! Just did exactly what you showed in the video and worked a treat. The wife was about to buy a new dishwasher - for a puddle of water. Thanks a million.
You are a LEGEND man! I called tech support and they said they needed to send technician for this... The cause was clearly a dirty filter that flooded the tray on the bottom. Cleaned out the filter and the little pan under the floatswitch and BOOM no expensive repairs needed.
Stumbled on this on Saturday and ended up fixing our dishwasher - had pretty much resigned myself to getting someone out, if not replacing it. Thanks so much!
Six years later and this video just saved me a call out fee thank you so so so much!!
For anyone struggling to remove the cover - press down on the hinge with a flathead screwdriver, while simultaneously pulling the cover towards you by gripping e.g. on the little bump at the bottom of the cover. Repeat with the other hinge. NB: the very bottom part is not the cover, but the base! You need to find the correct piece to grip on while pulling, which is part of the cover and not the base.

i cant seem to do it
Absolute legend. Sorted mine today after finding this. Few hours scratching my head up to that point. Thanks. Who bloody knew there was an aqua switch. Not me.
I wish you added the bit where you released the clips, it took me a while to figure it out. Had to put a flat head screwdriver in to pull down the tab inside and simultaneously pull the bottom corner away from the machine. The other tab could then be released without using the screwdriver as the panel was loose, and you could pull the whole cover away. But thanks for this, I opened the door in the middle of a cycle and triggered the Acquastop. Saved an engineer call out.
You saved my Sunday! I did the same fix with the STL825B-1, which is really narrower to operate, because of the reduced socket height. Thank you so much.
Thank you very much for this helpful video! Worked well. Only thing to add was that I had a crack open the seals on the inspection panel at the bottom to open it... but it still slid back on nearly after I cleaned up the leakage.
Thanks David, 6 years later your video is still saving people’s lives&wallets 😂❤❤
Thanks David , this is great , I was able to fix the fault using your video. The SMEG guys quoted $125 for a call out and $35 per 15 minutes thereafter.
Similar to others - about to buy new dishwasher. Saw your video - simple fix, a bit awkward to get at but worked a treat! Thank you!
Hi David, Thank you so much for this video. Worked just the way you showed, saved $$$ and heaps of dish washing as I had to wait for a technician to come after the Christmas/new year break! Thanks heaps!
Amazing! Couldn't figure out the point of this piece of polystyrene. Now it all makes sense !! Thank you .
You rockstar sharing this! Was a key press away from buying a new machine for £500 GBP. Instead I followed your instructions. Hey ho! It solved the problem. Wife thinks I'm awesome! Told her it was actually Dave who fixed it! Strange they don't put this in the troubleshooting section of the User Manual.
I know this is an old video but you are a Legend mate ! Just saved us a lot of cash. Our dishwasher had this issue - now sorted just like you said. Knowledge is power - Thank you again !
Thanks David, saved me a call to after sales service and perhaps some call out fee... You are a star!!!
Thanks for this David - great video and got mine sorted this morning no problem. I didn't take the integrated door off and still managed to do it. My on/off button is broken too and plug is too awkward to get at so had to turn it off at the fuse box so thought the whole thing would be a nightmare to sort - the video was a super help :)
Thanks, mate. That worked beautifully. I appreciate you taking the time to show us how it's done.
Brilliant, thanks for the help. I tried this on a different model but it had exactly the same problem. Such an easy fix that without knowing about could have been costly.
Thanks, you saved me hours of work. My first though was that I would have to remove the machine and that is a nightmare. Brilliant! Pint waiting on the bar for you.
Thanks Dave! What a champion, made me look like a hero in front of the missus.
Good man David, helping folk years after the video was uploaded. Just helped me out today. Good man!
I thought there was no water in mine either but left some Kitchen paper around the areas and five minutes later they were saturated. I am a Wheelchair-User and was able to do this task. Two points you might address for Nobody know nothings like me. ONE: How to remove the Door panel. TWO: remove ONLY! teh Decor Panel - I almost broke mine as only 2 screws on door but it required a Slide up and off motion to remove the door. I had initially removed all the screws (Big mistake) as when I replaced everything the Locking mechanism has slipped so door would no longer lock in place. Invaluable lessons here and thank you sincerely
Thanks for video, saved me 800 of my most important dollars
Thank you for posting this. Gave us confidence to tackle the thing and it seems to be working again!
You help me to solve the fault, even after 7 years! Thank you so so much!
Cheers for that. All fixed over Xmas period when we could have been waiting weeks for a repairman.
This solution works also for SMEG LVS367B Dishwasher. Thank You very much, David!!! Questa soluzione funziona anche per la lavastoviglie SMEG LVS367B. Grazie mille, David!!!
Outstanding. Fixed my SMEG DWAFI314 in Brisbane this morning thanks to your video. Cheers.
Ciao David, you really deserve a BIG THANK YOU! It worked also on a different model than yours, and you know you saved me at least 50€ avoiding calling a technician!. Thank again man!
Very helpful, thanks for the video , did it on a different model, but the same floater, you make my wife's day
Thank you so much for this. Showed me how to fix my dishwasher. Massively grateful!
Got me out of a tight spot with the misses. thanks David!
So simple but probably saved us a fortune. All fixed, thanks for sharing this!
Thanks David. Such an easy fix, but would have cost me plenty without your vid.
What a legend, 5min job and we are back up and running
Thank you so much David! I was looking for a solution everywhere and here it is. Great thanks man
Yes, as everyone else has said, great quick fix. Had to do this about 3 years ago but forgot what I did, glad that the video is still up.
Hey, thanks for the video. Exactly what I needed to be able to fix my own dishwasher. You saved the day!
Thank you very much David for sharing this information. It sorted our problem. Great step by step guide. Very very grateful.
Sir, you are a gentleman and a legend. I salute you!
Thanks mate, you just helped me fix my dishwasher and save a hefty call-out fee - top man!
Thank you. Worked on our Smeg dishwasher of a different model number. Small amount of water in tray after 3 years.
Thank you very much. Lesson learned, never use dishwashing liquid in a dishwasher. It happened to me that my partner have put excessive dishwashing liquid in the dishwasher because we just ran out of dishwasher tablet. I think the excessive form it generates force the water to leak into the base.
Thank you!!! My dishwash show e1 error and I try your idea and it works!!! You save the day, i dont know where it sink but for now it works...
Thankyou so much! Such and easy fix but saved the hassle (and cost) of getting someone out to fix it
Brilliant! Followed exactly what you did in the video and fixed it immediately. Thank you so much!👍
Thanks it helped me save a lot of money, as I didn't had to buy a new one. Just for future people watching this, my dishwasher kept on tryinh to pump the water out.
Thanks mate. I did exactly what you showed in the video and viola it worked like charm. Appreciate it man you taking time out and uploading this video.
Thank you so much!! I just fixed my dishwasher myself. You are a God
I'm sure many have said it but thank you for the tip same thing happened to my SMEG DID13E2 your tip worked a treat 😁
Works a treat even on different Smeg models. Cheers
Super helpful! Top man! Same applies to the majority of Smeg or Apell dishwashers. Cheers David

Thanks a lot, just seen your video & done on my dishwasher ... It seems it worked 👍🏻💪🏻👍🏻 next days we'll make a wash 4 check.
Thank you so much!! It helped me fix the issue.
=) and google translate =) Thank you so much for the instruction! I fought this problem for about a year by blowing compressed air into the siphon =))) and that the most interesting thing helped, but it turns out that's what the problem was, honestly for 5 years I have never cleaned the whole pan there, thanks again! =)
Diolch David! Seems to have worked on our D16013-D too - happy days! 💪🏼

Same with mine, also about 4 month old now. The seal is somewhat leaky. I really had clean all the seals every two loads, otherwise it will leak. I just called the SMEG support to get this solved.
