When comes to SM no company can beat the vocals. From 1st generation until 4th generation they nailed it 💯

Priority was definitely live because Taeyeon changed a lot of her notes but as always SM overproduces their vocals for no damn reason. We know they can sing, I don't know why they insist on making them try to sound like the studio version when the beauty of live vocals is to hear them get creative with the notes and adlibs.

Wendy did say that she was disappointed that the performance made it looks like that she's lipsyncing eventhough she mentioned that she sang it live. "It could have been better in my opinion", that was also what she said. It's SM's fault i guess. Anyway, Priority is so good it deserve its own attention lmao

I think they definitely sang live (you can see taeyeons neck veins popping out when she sang the high note 😂), but for some odd reason sm decides to over polish their vocals afterwards or just put a prerecorded track over it 😅

Agree. This is more of SM doing post-production work instead of the artists deliberately lip-syncing when this was filmed. Also @ 10:25 you can see Changmin dropping the note before Taeyeon does which is surprisingly in sync with the audio if this was a pre-recorded track. (the original is out of the equation, it's so much different from this performance)

Time after time & Priority were definitely LIVE vocals🥰❤ Thee artist confirmed it herself✌ and there is behind the scene too.. BUT somehow SM manage to make it like they are lipsync🥴 U must know that kpop entertainment have obsession about "PERFECTION" stuff, this also one of the example! Overproduced / vocal smoothing/correction things idk.

With both vocal and visuals! I could definitely use less production and focus on looking flawless too. The line between "idol" and human right? But we hear them as they are at every SMTown concert and live show these groups do so we know exactly what they are capable of.... but once cameras roll it can get almost VR-like which I find unnerving....

What you said about BoA and her voice, nailed it! Takes me to church every damn time. What i liked the most about Time After Time is that they served the vocals and high notes but is a very ordered way? Like everyone had her shinning Moments and gave us a very pleasant vocal track. Candy to the ear. Priority is very candy ear song as well, it's just they gave me zero energy stage like how? 😭

THIS IS WHY WE LOVE YOU!! I swear I'm here for a good look, great dance performance but ABOVE ALL ELSE I am SITTING for amazing vocals like that is what keeps me interested and hooks me in!! I'm glad Boa's out of this world vocals got to shine I love the subtle yet rough, smoky texture she has, Wendy continues to impress me performing consistent great vocals there is no limit to her abilities and NingNing is an actual problem when she goes OFF she takes all my belongings and RUNS & it's my fault because I'm never ready lmaoo. Priority is already one of my fave songs of the year thank you SM. I noticed while watching live that they were actually singing live in most of the performances (esp dbsk) but the editing fairies worked overtime to hide that and idk why?? like pls SM I think it's even more annoying for the older performers like Boa/Tae/DBSK/Shinee who are masters at live performances and have proven themselves countless time, like we KNOW how they sound when it's not cleaned up and those raw versions are what the majority of fans prefer I'm here for the glitz and glam but I appreciate the experience that untouched live performances give you know?

@@WaitingForTheHook while I would agree with you, pay attention to their neck muscles when they sing. You can see the tension in them when they go to sing higher notes. If they were to lip sync that would not happen, as lip sync would reduce the tension seeing as they wouldn’t be singing live. My only guess/assumption would be overproduction. Which is quite common when it comes to Sm’s end of the performances.

It’s not live. It was live for those who were there apparently but they covered up the vocals entirely with a pre recorded track for the stream. And before you argue with me, Wendy is the one that confirmed that.

Gosh, I love your comment about BoA! People need to give more credit to her singing since her ballad, Meri Kuri is like the “All I Want for Christmas” in Japan. She’s definitely so well rounded as an artist, this woman can compose, produce, sing, dance and direct music. In terms of the audio, I wish SM’s ProductionTeam had left their live/raw vocals as is! I love both songs but I replayed Priority more than Time After Time.

SM has a habit of layering prerecorded vocals over videos where their artist were actually singing live. This happened frequently but not all the time with the concert DVDs that they used to release. Now, they just do it with everything, even music show performances. I don't know why they do it, but they do. Maybe to preserve the artist's voice? Also for events like this they do multiple takes, so it could be a case of taking the best vocal performance and matching it with the best take on stage and cutting them together, leading to inconsistencies like Max doing a run in the audio but already singing another line visually.

Finding out that it was actually sung live is so disappointing. I don’t get sm’s obsession with painting over audio with perfect polished vocals when their artists already have beautiful voices live. It doesn’t matter if there are imperfections, that adds to the performance imo and like u said gives us a new take on the song! N e ways I looove both of these songs. I’m obsessed w priority as a song but that time after time stage was show stopping!

SM seems to have this weird thing about not showcasing their idols singing live when it’s for free, I’ve noticed. Like, they apparently did sing live but SM is out here like “nah, y’all didn’t pay for these vocals” lol

People always sleeping and hating on BoA’s vocals but go to any of her past videos performing ballads and they’ll see. SHE CAN SING. I’ll forgive her this one time since it doesn’t look live but better believe she can keep up and do it well any other time.

Atp I'm just waiting for Taeyeon's solo concert because sm gets on my nerves with these prerecorded/heavily mixed vocals. Why are they constantly trying to give us 'perfect' muted vocals? I want to hear everything! Even if it's not perfect it's so much more enjoyable to hear the live raw vocals. I get doing heavy mixing or whatever on music shows but really??? Wishing SM will leave their paradox of having some of the best vocals in kpop but wanting to over produce their vocals at any situation. The leak of priority from someone at the pre record sounded great why mess so heavily with it’s why I like the behind the scene studio recoding videos. All in all really enjoyed the performances. My King Taeyeon continues to never fail me. I’m bringing priority with me to the new years.

BoA GOAT

Specifically, BoA, Wendy, and Ning Ning are a lineup I want to hear more from on a technical level. With less restraint, those vocals will be even more amazing. Also in agreement for the last one, if it had a little more altered layering between the 3 of them as it progressed could have given it so much more. It kinda feels polished but subdued was the basic theme. None of it was really as hard-hitting as we know they're capable of vocally and choreographapy wise. I think the whole show overall was more of a, "Oh look, we can be co-ed, kind of" in a Disney-esque way.

Sm (and many korean shows) usually retouch live vocals A LOT in order to make it sound like a "perfect and clean" performance (I've seen it in red velvet's live performances), even though most of us just want to hear a more natural performance. I do think they are singing live in this

Taeyeon really ate that performance. She was looking fire while making the studio version look like a joke compared to the performance. Her adlibs here was so much better

Like some other people have mentioned it seems that a lot of the performances were actually sang live, at least for the fans that attended the recording, or so it seems from some of the behind the secenes .... but of course live vocals is not what WE are hearing. Given that it was a free concert i kinda get that.

Those who are musically-inclined or has attention to details can definitely determine right away if it's lipsyncing or live. You can analyze the different between the studio version to the live stage, especially, the adlibs and the fading out lines. The way they deliver it. Cheers to the three for effortlessly being marvelous and for SM continously being overproductive/editing with their artists. 😅

11:17, the song is about making each of them a priority. That's why there is no lead. Each of them is wanting to be a priority which means there is no priority. SM is great at making the song speak for itself. There is no lead because no one is a priority for the person they're singing to. If one was a lead, then they become a priority, which doesn't make sense for the song.

I think it is a live stage with well-tuned sound

I just love Winter (THE IDOL) so much like I feel like I can relate to her. We have the same MBTI (ISTP). I get really shy when I'm with people I'm not around a lot and the people around me tell me a lot of the time that I seem closed off, but I don't be meaning to be like that I be wanting to join in on conversations and talk to new people but I just don't feel comfortable around people I don't see or speak to much so I may seem stiff and I feel that is how Winter (THE IDOL) is. Plus she's an amazing vocalist.

You can tell they sang live, but this is pre-recorded at least a week before the concert. So you usually have 3-5 takes and I think here they used the vocals from the best take but spliced two takes for the video because the far away shots don't show the camera they'd need for several close-up shots. I really enjoyed Key singing over the backing in his because you could hear they couldn't do too much to his vocal feed in post-editing since the mic picks up the backing in certain parts. Key said 'not this time SM'. lol

Changmin is definitely my favorite Korean singer.

I believe priority team sing live but they (someone incharge of editing this video) change the audio to recording sound. Look at max changmin looks so passion about it, and taeyeon looks soo focus. But yeah, editor change the audio

i think at the time of this performance they were actually singing live, but for some reason sm cleaned the vocals up afterwards and may have layered a studio/recorded track over it to make it sound better. its annoying lmao.

During the streaming, we definitely questioned the stylist choices. Some of them were ill fitted 😩😩

Okay my problem with the Priority stage is that Winter and semi Taeyone wasn't giving me no energy. Like I was so mad/dissatisfied like Changmin even if it wasn't live he was still was pulling you in and trying to connect with you. 100% When you listen to the song without like seeing this you feel it. I meant his run. His mouth shape did not match the ending of how he would end that run before joining Taeyeon. It’s more likely multiple takes over layered hence why he didn’t match his vocal. I can tell the difference between his and Winters vocal.

i would love to see this performance without editing... but the thing is most korean people likes perfection in every apects, they don't want to risk their artist to experience some failure if they dare to do this without editing, dubbing the voices and such. and i think we all know how harsh knetizens are...

I agree that these are live vocals, ruined by over-production. Specifically, they are way over-compressed. That's what you were referring to about "natural variations" not being audible. Even if they would have eased up on the attack, it would have sounded better. But they flattened the crap out of the dynamics. It's also pitch corrected so much, it sounds unnatural. If you want to hear tasteful and appropriate vocal post-production, just watch any Immortal Songs or Sketchbook performance.

you want live vocals, you go to EXO and RV. the soloists just killed it. seulgi, Xiumin, Chen, Suho especially bcz of their solos, you cud clearly tell. for group stages i can tell bcz i know the parts they improvise and trust kyungsoo and Wendy to always improve a run so thats ur cue that its live.

Sm has this problem with making their idols look like perfect robots with over editing, it needs to stop.

I find it ironic that you’re saying they kept to the original studio version without changing up anything. If you’ve listened to the original studio version before, you would be able to pick up that it is INDEED DIFFERENT from the studio version. Taeyeon’s voice was louder in this live version. Winter switched the way she sang her lines a little bit in the first verse. Pls compare the original studio version and the live version before you say things you’re unsure of.

Artists pre record variations of live sounding vocals all the time. Doesn’t mean it’s live just because it differs from the studio version. Some of the runs and back ground parts are identical to the studio version however.
