Hi Frank, thank you - this is what I've been looking for. Does this plugin recognise when you shoot in landscape and when you shoot in portrait modes? The native software requires you to manually set the orientation in the program, but I rotate orientation all the time when shooting, and manually telling the software is a painful interruption to my workflow. I think Smartshooter could be the solution.

Almost any serious software does that ;) I switch regularly between landscape and portrait and it would be insane to change settings every time.

No idea But Lightroom now supports Sony native :) So you won't need it anymore.

Thanks Frank. When shooting from LR, do you still need to set the folder at SS4? Do you know if we can use the same license for more than one computer?

You don't have to do anything in SM. Just use Lightroom like you normally do. Usage depends on the license.

And some others features like more cameras, cooperation between photographers at the same event and QR codes. For "normal use" the standard version is often enough

Great video! Any chance you can do a follow up covering Smart Shooter 5? I'd love to see a detailed walk through on how to properly set it up to tether a Sony camera to Lightroom.

I don't own smart shooter 5. I'm mostly using cascable at the moment on the iPad pro and lightroom with smart shooter 4 ;)

Oh, I see. I thought that once you buy Smart Shooter you get free upgrades to the latest future versions for free. Is that not the case?

@@chrisjohnston964 as far as I know yes. And with the a7rv I now have to upgrade. I meant I just never did the upgrade because I mostly use the iPad.

In my Case everytime i start the Tethering Session in Lightroom, it says "failed to lunch smart shooter 4" (The Plugin is running in the plug in Manager of Lightroom). Tethertools itself said, the apple silicon version is ready, so its not an apple m1 problem. Don't know what i could do else :(

nice review. I just purchased smart shooter 5 win11 for my a7rv and launched it before I launched lightroom classic latest version. I can take pictures but cannot make liveview inside lightroom. works only in smart shooter 5. any idea what to do ?

Best is to contact their support. That’s probably camera specific

My Sony A7iii won’t show up in the trial version of the program, I can’t figure out why

Is your camera setup for PC remote instead of mass storage ? Do you have other tethering software active ?

What USB Connection are you in? Mass storage, PC Remote, Auto or MTP? I am using the A7riii with a tether pro USB-c to USB-c but it worked with micro usb to USB-A. ???

Pc remote Mass storage is for cards. A7rIII should work without any problem I've been using it for years. If you can't connect with USBC make sure you are using the correct drivers for Thunderbolt or USBC. Mostly the drivers from the manufacturer will work and the general drivers can/cause problems

My trial version of Smart Shooter 4 doesn't show me any of sony alpha 7 camera (III, RIV or R V I have) and your tuto starting to late... you show the app open with the camera yet reconized; it will be much normal and efficient to show the connexion step by step since the beginning please

Connection is super simple On the sony make sure that control via smartphone is off and usb is on in the tethering menu. After that it should work right away.

has there been any updates where you can use this on your ipad?

good vid mate..how do you get Lightroom to display the live-view of the Camera?

Press on the live button. I normally don't use live view in the software

@@FrankDoorhof Thank you. I did looked into that but I dont see that button or option. I can connect the camera to LRC through tethered captured, the control bar does pop up but I dont see the live button on it. Im using the Sony A9, could it be a that this particular model doesnt work?

ok, so if I use my iPad for SS4, how do I get the iPad screen color correct? ideas? I have tried and im lost

There is no way to use it on the iPad. I'm using cascable. Calibration on iOS is still not really possible. But I'm working on an external screen in the studio ;) also with tethering i don't really care about 100% accurate colors. With retouch i do ;)

@@FrankDoorhof ok, well I was kinda hoping I could use it on the iPad, I saw it in the Apple Apps store... was hoping to use it as my back up for RE and architecture photography when my WIFI wasn't working. This is good to know, thank you.

Sure dream on.... ;) I do agree btw I absolutely don't get it why apple doesn't allow desktop apps on iOS. I would probably add the warning "you need a keyboard and mouse for this to function properly" but at least open it up. Now the iPad pro can do a lot more than apple allows. They are probably afraid to kill off the MacBook line. Which would happen without a doubt for most people.

Appreciate your help Frank with getting this set-up. It now works perfectly with my Sony A7iii. Its is much better and more efficients compared to Sony's software (which actually is pretty anoying).

I did and I actually don’t see live view for sony a7riv which is almost a dealbreaker for me. I have capture one as well but I always tend to end up liking end results better in Lightroom

@@FrankDoorhof Thanks for this video! Do you still recommend the software despite no longer supporting it? If not, do you have any other tethering recommendations for the Sony A7R IV (outside of auto importing in Lightroom from a folder combined with Sony's brutal software)?

Nothing wrong with the software ;) Capture One also supports sony And I'm using the iPad Pro with cascable And of course the sony software and dsrl dashboard So a few options ;)
