    Any aftermarket company will let you know what parts/consumables are compatible. Personally I just stick with OE parts just because they are generally higher quality and therefore I am less likely to have to re-do a job due to faulty parts.

    Best video I've seen yet. I have a 2000 Smart Fortwo, gasoline engine. Had a small accident and repaired the radiator and tried refilling but no circulation. I feel it is airlocked. And information on the older models? I suspect that it should be similar?? Neil

    I don’t know exactly about the 450 models, but the theory is you find the highest point in the cooling system and that’s where the air bubbles will accumulate. If you can find any coolant hose, that’s very high on the system, simply remove it while you’re refilling and you’ll see air come out. Once you have fluid coming out, the air should be purged and you should be able to get it to cycle.

    At the end, you said the bottom radiator hose disconnect was "Optional". Is that just a step to speed the draining ? If so, then the system will drain fully without removing the bottom radiator hose, it will just take longer to drain from the back plug ? I ask, because it seems the hardest part is literally the removal of the bottom front plastics. If a full drain can be accomplished without having to lift the front, remove the splash panel, and disconnect the bottom radiator hose, the job would be much easier. Patiently awaiting your reply. Excellent video and explanation. Thank you from texas !

    You could drain it from the engine side and get 90% of the coolant out. Then refill, drive for 5 minutes and repeat. Good enough at that point. Removing the radiator hose just helps get everything out right away.

    Hello Sir, Thank you for posting all these videos. Have you adjusted valve clearance yet in your car? Would love to see a tutorial. I have a tappeting noise at idle but I'm not even sure if it's supposed to be normal. I was wondering if my valve tappets were worn off even though I have only 70000 kilometers on the counter. The car has been filled with 0w40 oil since the begining, that's what the dealer uses, but I'm thinking of changing for 5w30 API SP. Cheers

    I haven’t done it yet. It is due every 60,000 miles. My car has 49,890 miles. I am preparing to film a “b service” but the valve clearance buckets won’t be for another 10,000 miles for me. But, I’m just letting you know in advance, doing the valve lifter buckets is not a simple job that can be done at home with basic tools. It requires shims and specialty tools to take off the bucket lifters without damaging them.

    @@ToyotaGR86Maintenance nononono the airlift is a vacuum tool that uses compressed air and the Venturi effect to create a vacuum of like -30 psi (I don’t know what that would be in Mercury or other measurements) in the cooling system to replace said vacuum with coolant. Oh boy. I read on some smart car forums by several people that you're supposed to use G05 coolant on the 2009 Smart Fortwo Passion 451, but according to you and some other sources I'm supposed to use the MB 325.0 approved (G48) coolant. Can I still use the G05 coolant or will it cause any problems that you know of? It's past it's return date and I'd hate to have to go out and buy the G48 coolant if I don't have to. So annoying

  • @ToyotaGR86Maintenance

    Do this… Don’t listen to anyone. It’s best to go directly to the source (Mercedes or Smart) and find out from them. Call your local Mercedes dealership parts department and ask them what coolant you should buy from them, I.E., what the spec is. Or go to an official website and look up the spec.

    @@davidbejarano9447 there are KZread videos what show how to do a blow by test. Or you can purchase a combustion leak detector kit from Amazon to test at home. Any shop that tells you the car needs this service or that service without showing you test results is a scam. If they say your head gasket is bad without having had tested using the kit I mentioned above they are just trying to empty your wallet.

    Yo ..it's my second comment ...while filling my coolant reservoir with plain water for locating leak I was surprised at the amount of water it took to fill up . I could not see a leak as the reservoir kept empying and I kept on filling . Finally water was commming out of the tailpipe as I was filling . Any clues about what is happening . No water is mixing with the engine oil , it's all pouring out of the tailpipe . Thanks for your time for this video .

  • @ToyotaGR86Maintenance

    @ToyotaGR86Maintenance

    10 ай бұрын

    If it is going out of your tailpipe, that means water is getting into your engine, and into your cylinders, then going out of your exhaust valves into the exhaust system, and finally out of your tailpipe. If water is pouring out of your tail pipe, that normally would mean that your engine is completely toast. Does it even start? How does it run if it starts?
