Just changed my 2008 451 after changing the clutch after 110,000 miles. You don't need a pump if you get the oil in quart size that has a nozzle you can add a hose to the nozzle, hold it above the tail gate and let gravity do the job - don't forget to poke a hole in the top (bottom of the container) to let air in

I Googled my problem and your video showed up. Your video is easy to follow and very helpful. It's one of those things you don't need but it makes a big difference and year transmission will last longer you'll get better gas mileage and your car will shift and drive much smoother. Most people get rid of cars in a few years anyways LOL Or here in Las Vegas they get totaled all the time just like my Corvette did😄😃

I have smart city coupe 450 but I dont know if I can change oil and than dont use PC diagnostic for learning transmission and change oil viscosity.....

Please note - From the factory, the 450 fortwo and Roadster comes with ATF Dexron II. However, if you are replacing the fluid, I would recommend using ATF Dexron III. It's a superior update to the previous standard and 100% backwards compatible with transmissions that use the previous standards. Dexron III is easier to buy, more common and usually cheaper.

I four days ago I drained the transaxle fluid from my 2013 smart car and let my car sit for four days with the filler and drain plugs removed for a complete draining of old fluid. I just now got done with refilling with new amsoil and I am going to take my car on a 100 mile drive and then drain the fluid and let the car sit for a couple of days to get a complete drain and then refill with new amsoil and yes I always be very precise.

This is the second video I have seen re using allen key type . I tried it and it rung the filler plug. even though the allen key was a tight fit. Took ages to get it out . Didnt even go near the drain one until I got a new one from Mercedes, After buying new Bolt it looks like an allen key, not Torx as fitted from new. Used torx on the original drain plug no problem, no damage to drain plug. Replaced BOTH with new plugs

That's a great question I do not have a car to do the video on however what you would ideally want to do is you want to get a bunch of distilled water in the system and do multiple flushes you can extract it through the top and thin it out over time the fluid got thicker and oxidized and now you probably have a clog in there which can definitely happen in the best thing you can do is multiple rounds of distilled water to try to thin it out and get the chunks out of there after you do multiple rounds of draining the system by any means possible possibly taking off one of the big hoses you just want to make sure you don't get any fluids in any Electronics after you go through all that then I highly recommend using simple green to clean the radiator and that outside of the radiator with the simple green after you get the bugs and all the sap and dust off it then I would continue with the fluids and then I would run the low toxicity biodegradable coolant after you get it all cleaned out with the Dominator coolant boost💯☕️ Together! O.k would it not be better to chuck in a new fill of budget grade then give it a run to swish around then drain prior to premium fill?. I always drain into a white color basin easy to see contamination.

I wouldn't worry about it. I would just squeeze a few ounces through it and then let it drain out and then you can cap it off and fill it. I use lucas 75w90 14.99 a quart

I changed mine at 42,000 it was clean as could be. I even filtered through a fine paint filter then coffee filter , no appreciable dust really. I have seen truck gearboxes with bronze and copper dust at half the mileage of mine. I have a Boesch Built low restriction exhaust on my car so noise reduction I wouldn’t notice, but I did notice it seemed have a slight improvement in shifts and economy. I have run Amsoil synthetic gear oil in everything from a few large trucks to now my smart and like the results. Great video by the way, you seem to be the Bob Ross of lubrication - :-)

Yikes sorry to hear that yeah I would get with a machinist they will give you a great solution even if it's just stripped where the Allen key goes in or if it's stripped with the threads they can correct it but you need a machinist so I would find the local machinist on Google Maps with the highest rating and I would call them and have them take a look at it👍

How do you know this kind of oil is the best? My owner's manual doesn't say anything about changing the transmission fluid which is odd, but some cars don't actually require you to change the trans fluid. I have a 2009 Smart ForTwo Passion Cabrio, and the owner's manual specifies under Service Fluids and Capacities that the recommended Transmission Fluid is 2.4 qt of Castrol Manual BOT 328 which is a 75W-90 fully synthetic GL4 gear oil. So yes, the AMSOIL Manual Transmission & Transaxle Gear Lube featured in this video does meet those specifications.

Cajun I got the hand pump at O'Reilly's Auto Parts or you can get it at Harbor Freight also there's no filter to change because it's just a gearbox.

Hello man, great video! But I have a question. I took my Smart car to change the transmission fluid, but the mechanic refuse to do it, saying that Its not just to change the oil like you said, but also have to change the oil of the Gearbox Gear Shifter Actuator. Also, told me that after changing the oil I have to calibrate the transmission. Is that truth? People here doesn't have much experience with Smart cars down here. Please help.

The actuator uses hydraulics and is actually feed by the break line(it's why smart gees a ton of brake fluid for its size) so he just lying to you.

how come you shake the oil before you pour it in? in each of your videos?

mikey Caps Kind of showboating.....lol Just to have it I like the slap the bottle sometimes too😁 There's no sediment in the bottles of Amsoil. They're always completely homogeneous. I just do different jokes I shake the bottle and I say can you hear the protection ?

Very important! Because your vehicle will run smoother last longer you'll have better fuel mileage. If I was driving this type of vehicle in Las Vegas I would do the transmission fluid every 15,000 mi. If I was driving all highway driving in Florida with no hills or downhills I would change it every 60,000 mi. It highly depends on your driving conditions and you're always better off changing it sooner than later especially if you think there's any water contamination like in this video I think someone drove this car through a puddle. Confirmed 2008 smart has used a T50 Torx, The new ones are 8mm Allen, so anyone beware check before using either Torx or Allen key as I was nearly stuck with a plug I could not remove by following the video using Allen key that sheered the filling plug, Lucky there was a small amount on the torx left right at the inner part of the plug to eventually got it out. I have pictures of both types but cannot add them to this statement

@@gosoku2771 clean out the filler plug and drain plug well of any debris , with a tooth brush and WD40 then, Torch and take a picture on your phone. Transfer the photo to the Desktop and zoom in. That will tell you which one to use BTW photo BOTH plugs just in case one is one type and the other the other type

If you Can't get AMSOIL for whatever reason.. Get the brands that have a tapered end on the bottle. You Won't have to use a pump. The bottle has tons of room under the car to just pour the fluid in straight from the bottle. AMSOIL Should do this as it will save people time and money.

The great thing is there's no way to overfill it because it just runs out the fill hole. It'll start to run out at about 2.6 quarts

That's a great question there may not be a power steering fluid some are an electronic sealed system and I am really not sure I do not recall this vehicle. However a lot of new vehicles have a sealed electronic power steering. I would go to a Mercedes dealer and give them the last eight digits of your VIN number and they will tell you exactly what it needs for the power steering

Yeah a lot of the owners manuals don't really get too specific. The service manual will have a lot more information on that car and it's interesting how the actual owner books don't really talk too much about maintenance lol There's a separate service books you'll need if you want all their recommendations on maintenance and fluid changes

I have no idea you would want to double check the lookup guide for your year make model and engine size there may be special editions so I do not know for certain I know the car in the video is and that is a special trans that needs the gear lube changed quite often and it makes a huge difference the way it operates after it's changed. Correct this one is called a gl4 specification and that's by API American petroleum Institute standard and that is a dual-purpose fluid for transaxles gear oil manual transmissions and differentials. Nikson Nikollaj great question! You are right. However you'll most likely find yourself replacing the transmission in about 80,000 100,000 miles if you don't change it. See the cost of the fluid is very expensive compared to replacing the transmission with parts and labor. I recommend changing that fluid the sooner the better. Furthermore the fluid becomes complimentary after about 12,000 miles because of the gas mileage savings. Well judging by this oil I would say absolutely change the transmission fluid every 40k km never seen oil so bad , maybe needs a flush too

Transaxles have modifiers that allowed them to shift better and if you flush them the flush can mix with the modifiers and it can cause shifting problems so it's always best to just drain and fill the transmission with the appropriate fluid.
