    As an owner of a 16 2021 Bambi I would say the only upgrades worth the price are the inverter (I had a 1000 watt one put into mine), the stove hood and the rear bumper for extra storage. And go solar with the new Lithium Battle Born batteries as well if you want to go longer boondocking. If you want to be a big baller in a small camper, sure go with the Caravel if price and GVMR is not a problem. If you want something you can easily tow, the Bambi is awesome and handles well on the road. Either way, for a couple or a small family, both are a great choice for getting away.

    Love the sliding blackout curtains in the trailers that are connected via top and bottom tracks, rather than the pull-down roller style. Those roller shades can be a bit finicky and do eventually wear out. Wish the sliding curtains were available in class B motor homes.

    Great show as always. We had a 2015 Bambi which we liked overall for its quality but being a portly fellow the wet bath and bed were too small - an expensive mistake. We traded for a small Winnebago View motorhome. It is a great layout but certainly not Airstream quality. If the Atlas had been available at the time we might have gone that direction.

    You’ve made it to my rig! Or at least a successor to it - we have a 2018 16’ Sport which is basically the 2021 Bambi with leather seats and the microwave is mounted under the upper kitchen cabinet, which gives a full second drawer for storage. I have been puzzled as to why Airstream put the microwave in the cabinet when the space that was freed up was windowless, so it doesn’t make it that much more open feeling, IMO. Between the two similar options you just toured I’d still take the Bambi over the Caravel, mostly because of the the lower weight and the gas range in the Caravel is a space waster. The Dometic cooktop in the Bambi sits flush on the counter, which makes for the only counter space in the kitchen. The gas grates, while lovely, take that away. The little inconveniences like the hand crank jack have never been an issue for us. I do wish the back window was larger for more cross breeze, but other Sport owners we’ve known have had the back exit window modified to be both an exit and full screen, which would be great. The one thing I wish we had was the rock guard in front, but that does add tongue weight, so I’m not sure if our SUV TV could handle it. Not being full timers the lack of inverter doesn’t bother us, but we do bring generators when Boondocking so that hasn’t been an issue for us. We run them for an hour or so in the morning to recharge the lead acid battery and at the same time we use any AC appliances. We do have a 90w Zamp portable solar panel (prewired) that keeps us topped off during the day for pump, fridge (Dometic 2-way w/propane) and USB use. Compared to your Interstate I prefer the combined black/grey tank in a small rig - really maximizes space!

    Nice! We should have consulted you before we toured them😂 Good point on the stovetop and space, we feel the same with our flip-up sink and stoves. Would be nice to have residential styles, but can't lose the counter space. The wrap-around windows and the ducted ac were probably the two biggest differences we felt. Thanks for watching Rachael! 😃

    Great review guys! I personally don’t see the value add of the Caravel over the Bambi especially since your paying an additional $12,000 and adding 800lbs of tow weight, which might mean needing to upgrade your vehicle (another expense). If Airstream allows customers to choose upgrades to the Bambi, I would go for the inverter and rear wrap around windows. Everything else adds to much weight and cost in my opinion and is just not necessary. Thanks for sharing! ❤

  • @IreneIronTravels

    @IreneIronTravels

    3 жыл бұрын

    The living space of our van is about 16 feet long, but the trailers are 8 feet wide, so the trailer feels a little bigger. Also has the outside storage, plus the tow vehicle. When we looked at every trailer length, we determined we'd want the 23 to 25 foot for it to be a big enough change from our van. Sure would be easy to tow a 16 though!

  • @davepowell4218

    @davepowell4218

    @@IreneIronTravels thanks for the insight - as we look at rvs, I'm always curious as to the relative size diff of B or C vs towable. As a full-timer, do you think the convenience of being able to use the tow vehicle when the trailer is parked (vs drive the B) is worth the trade off of a larger, longer tow setup, of do you not move enough to have the relative benefit of a smaller setup matter?

  • @IreneIronTravels

    @IreneIronTravels

    3 жыл бұрын

    That is a tough comparison as they both have their pros and cons. The true class B we are in is probably the easiest and most convenient for face paced travel and being able to go the most places without much worry at all. Big cities, National Parks, Campgrounds, boondocking, etc. Not much need to plan as we can stay/ sleep most places and have all the convivences of motorhome, just in a smaller package. But we give up living space, tank sizes, and convivence of a second vehicle. (always have to break camp to go somewhere) A truck and small trailer(22-25feet) would be what we would switch to as we slow down our travel. We will have to plan more, but we will be able to boondock for 2 weeks instead of 1 week and we will enjoy the different style of having a truck to explore local areas more. The living space between a 22ft van and a 25ft trailer are night and day in our opinion, permanent walkaround bed, separate bath and shower, perm table/dinette, and separate couch, outside storage, more room for solar, etc...

    Towing is new to us as well, but I would image the 16 ft would be pretty easy to get the hang of. I'd be scared of the 30 footers though!🤯

    Keep in mind that technically your tow weight includes the cargo in your vehicle. Some recommend about 1000 lbs buffer between the full weight of the trailer and your max tow weight. The Airstream because of the way it's built is supposed to keep most of the weight low to the ground making it less likely to sway. Everyone has trepidation towing and backing up any trailer with a partner is comical afterwards but may have a lot of swearing during...

    Nice video! I like both trailers but Airstream as usual has made questionable design decisions. First, why roller or sliding doors for the cabinets instead of the usual hinged wooden doors? Why not put in a single piece wet bath instead of the half wet bath that requires a silly curtain and a window that you will almost always have down anyway? And worst of all, why not put the dinette/lounge in the back and the bed in the front so that you can have the best view when backing into a space and you don't need the rock guards since it faces the rear? Of course, really Airstream should have put panoramic windows on both ends, which would probably cut down on the weight too.

    Can you pull an Airstream trailer with your Airstream motor home?

    Yes! The Interstate can tow 5,000 lbs which is enough for any of the single axles Airstream trailers!

    JVC deck, not bad, cheap, but not bad - they have good performance. So many trailers use Jensen (utter garbage).

    This video was badly done (sorry) but a lot of the information / comparison was inaccurate in descriptions. It did not allow for potential customers to get an 'accurate' comparison. You could of mentioned that a lot of the items seen as 'upgrades' on the Caravel, could be added after market on the Bambi - this is a good idea for customers that want a light interior (Bambi) vs darker interior (Caravel) they coudl add options that they need after market, and certainly not at the difference of cost $12,000. The Caravel has leather like (not leather) cushions.

    Hello, thanks for watching! Of course one could upgrade their trailer via the aftermarket route, but this video was about the factory differences between the Bambi and Caravel. It would not be cheap or easy to add on wrap-around windows in the rear or the ducted AC/heat.
