Nope! I didn't hear ANYTHING in this video, that explains why an Airstream is so expensive. Everything that was discussed, was essentially the same as what I've read in the marketing brochures. Frankly, there's NO REASON for them to be so expensive, these days. With much more cost-effective, durable and lightweight materials used in other (already overpriced) RV brands, the argument is weaker with every passing year. Especially when you consider that it's far cheaper to repair any other RV, than an Airstream, when the RV is out of warranty. Nope! Airstream is merely a status symbol for the filthy rich. As good as they are... and I do think that they're great... they're NOT worth the $$$$$. Another MAJOR problem with Airstream RV's is that they're not built for us normally tall people. NOTE TO AIRSTREAM: The average height of people in North America is much taller than it was in the 1950's! You're way behind the times on that one (and don't even think about charging us a premium "to accommodate our height"... we're way ahead of that marketing scam!)

Reasons to buy Airstream 1) Brand Reputation = good resale value 2) Premium materials used for construction 3) Known build quality That is it. Airstream is the iPhone of the RV trailer world. There are plenty of options which will give you the same functional experience, and maybe even better function. But you will feel better in your mind knowing you have the cool trailer that everyone will praise you for having.

Hi Michael, We agree! There is a huge difference between cost and price. Price is the short term cost of an RV and Cost is the long term. @@MickPsyphon how about the All aluminum studs in the interior walls, no wood to rot like most do in the front end and around windows. By the way my 50year old airstream still has the original power inverter and it's running strong. Now I agree with you about the unnecessary higher price and the status, but aluminum is more costly than steel which does rust. I've owned a 38 foot Gulfstream with two slides and i loved it ( plenty of room) verses the airstream, and i only hit my head above the couch unlike the airstream on bathroom cabinets, door Way ( like concussions) bedroom cabinets and kitchen cabinets. My Old lark, coachmen Catalina both already got rotten Wood around windows and the front ends repaired and floor's but they are both very cozy. The Old airstream has held up very well compared to my other two which is 20 years younger than the airstream. Just personal fact's and experiences.i really like the Old coachmen trailers because I breathe and sleep better in them and i don't hit my head because I'm 6' 1' . I feel secure in a small home with wheels. Take care and keep it between the ditches.

I am rebuilding a 1963 Airstream. 3 years into the build hoping to roll out in the next 30 days.

We purchased a 1961 Bambi, pretty much Vintage. Only thing that doesn't work right now is the fridge. it is pretty much ready to hit the road. all we need to do is polish it up.

One of the great lessons in life that my father taught me (20/20 hindsight) was, "You can buy cheap twice for more than you can buy quality the first time." Unfortunately, Americans have too often settled on cheap (mainly foreign), and much of what the US made in quality is now "overseas-disposable-cheap". I am very happy that there are still quality-minded craftsmen here in our country. Please support them.

He should have said, ""You can buy lower quality for twice the cost of a higher quality item if you don't know what you are doing." You CAN buy better trailers for FAR less than an Airstream for MUCH less.

Four years ago, my wife and I sold our house, quit our jobs, and hit the road for a year travelling throughout North America in a 30-foot Airstream International Serenity. It was an incredible experience. We’re back in the “real world” now, but that Airstream was the nicest home we’ve ever had.

Why did you stop?

I’ve known Tom DeWalt for 8 years. He’s a straight shooter, and doesn’t try and put you into a unit that’s not right for you. He is no longer with Airstream of Virginia, but runs his own company advising and training people how to tow their travel trailers. I have had Airstream products as well and would definitely consider them the top of the line in what is currently available in the US market.

After decades of RVing, I have discovered many things but the biggest is that you either have an Airstream or you buy several leaky white boxes. I have owned only Airsteams exclusively since I bought a 1976 20 years ago. They ride like a Cadillac, sitting low on independent torsion suspension. Not three feet up on leaf springs that date back to the 1800s. They’re not hammered by cross winds or semi trucks passing by at 80 mph. The build quality is far above anything you can find in your average cookie cutter trailer. You can spend $80,000 once every 20 years or $25,000 every 5 years. You do the math.

Look for a restored used airstream, may be better than what they build now.....In the past they used all aluminum...so no outside rust, now they use steel on items attached to the outside shell....rust shows up if they sit outside just like cheaper rigs....my 73 had nothing made of steel on the outside, no rust. It was was always stored outside.....If I were to go again it would an Oliver with 2 axles (always) have 2 axles for flats on a busy highway, it happens....or a smaller ATC trailer with 2 axles...

@@johnnyhunter4345 You got me on those Olivers, I never heard of them and just Googled it and watched a few vids about them. Nice well built trailers, they def compete with Airstreams. If I had the cash I'd have no problem with an Oliver. Hey, when you mentioned 2 axles, you think that's important on any trailers, or would you still say that for 20 feet or less trailers, does size matter on the axle recommendation is what I'm trying to ask? HA! Thanks

We went to Alaska (from NC) for two months with our 2008 Airstream and never had a problem. We heard all kinds of tails of woe from or fellow travelers in other brands of trailers about cabinets falling onto the floor, axles breaking, and various other problems. In fact (knock on wood), we have never had a problem that we could not repair ourselves other than the plastic cover on our AC unit cracking from old age. I actually prefer having a manual awning and manual leveling jacks because it it one less electrical item that can fail. I would buy another Airstream, but I don't think that I will live long enough to wear out our current Airstream.

Hope you live long enough to have to buy a new airstream.

I have a 16-ft Sport. I lived in it for five weeks last summer while dealing with my mom's estate. I was most impressed by the insulation and soundproofing, etc. Even during Midwest lightning and thunderstorms, I felt safe and cozy inside. I like that you can have a conversation and know that your campground neighbor can't hear you (as long as windows are closed), which also means you are less likely to hear your rude neighbors who are blasting music or whatever. Everything is quality. It's so different from the campers I grew up with that just felt like hollow shells. We look at it as we are paying more up front hoping that it will save us from being nickled and dimed later and/or keep us out of the shop because we are paying for the excellent quality now. So far so good. My one advice if you are looking at them, though, is if you are vacillating on which one to get, always go bigger if you can. I got a 16 simply because my tow vehicle is an SUV. If you have a truck, go bigger. Weekend camping doesn't matter, but you'll love your Airstream so much, you'll want to spend more time than you think in it--so go with more living space if you can.

After owning an Airstream 23' Safari for over 10 years I can say that they fall apart just like any other trailer. I had to replace almost everything, A/C, toilet, fans, then you find hardware on the floor when you travel and you have to find out where it came from. The exterior construction was solid, and the trailer looked great but you are paying a premium for the brand, not worth it at all...

You can get a quality 30 ft 5th for a fraction of the price of an airstream. IMO… Airstream isn’t worth the 6 figure price tags.

Bought a 31 foot airstream during the gas crisis in the 70s it was a dealer model demo and had every option on it including the arctic package. Didn’t help it’s a two season trailer fall and spring because of the winter the roof is cold in the summer the roof is very hot and the air conditioning couldn’t keep up with it. And I had to replace the water heater tank and the refrigerator after burping did not help anymore. I towed that trailer all over the United States and Canada without a real problem. And when I saw the dealer moving around with his truck that had a front hitch on it the trailers I said I want one of those and had it installed. so there was never a problem about you couldn’t fit into any campsite CB radio and the walkie-talkie solves the vision issue. I don’t know if airstream has address these issues with the new trailers. As old as it is today it’s still worth more than what I paid for it, unfortunately lost it in the divorce.

Picked up my Bambi 16 2021 late Feb. Taking him camping in one week to break it in. The craftsmanship down to the wooden utensil tray in the kitchen is amazing. The cost is high but the value doesn't drop after you take it off the lot like other RVs. Best part is keep in mind you can claim these as a second home for taxes, so why not max out that deduction ;)

I have wonderful memories of vacationing on lake Marion in st cloud Florida when I was a kid 48 years ago we stayed in my grandma's landyaucht on a lot she owned on the lake. I owned and sold a vintage land yacht and I presently live in a vintage land yacht now . I think it's a 1972 built-in Cerritos California and it's in not great but good shape. No leaks, solid original floor. A great home that would be great for total restoration. I cook on the original stove and i still have the original aluminum propane tanks . I've lived in other RVs but airstream quality is hard to beat. Thank you for the video.

One of the most overlooked factors in owning an Airstream or other RV is the service after the sale. This differs widely from dealer to dealer. Without good dealer support, service and repairs can take 6-weeks or more and some of them do not notify you when backordered parts are received then another 6-weeks waiting for a service appointment.

What was most important for me when I started with Airstream was the safety in towing one with the aerodynamic design. I never felt it behind me but knew the size and was cautious on critical turns: gas stations, parking lots, etc.

Airstream is a customer of mine in Ohio. I have been in the plant many times. They make their own aluminum shells, pressure test it for leaks, do allot of their own woodwork and sewing on site. There are no better trailers on the market

I still think they should come with the front electric jack and electric levelers. Also, an electric awning. Yes, they’re built amazing but for over $100k they should have those features come as stock.

RVBlogger I actually thought the same thing. I have the electric jack and levelers on my travel trailer but it wouldn’t have bothered me if it didn’t. The Airstreams are just so expensive though.

Ours has an electric jack, power awning and power stabilizers. Stabilizers aren’t designed to be levelers. Not sure where you got your information that AS does not have those features.

Newer year models will mostly come equipped from the factory with a dual mode jack so you have the convenience of an electric tongue jack or if you're having electrical problems you can manually crank the jack as well. The leveling jacks are manual but if you want you can easily use a cordless half inch impact to raise or lower them keeping in mind that you don't want to over-torque them in either direction. It's to save weight because you'd have to have four separate electric motors to run the leveling jacks plus the battery capacity to run them all.

The only ones that come with electric stabilizers are the classics

Being all metal construction, you can also restore them. As he said, the percentage of units that are road worthy has a lot to do with people buying older units and fixing them up. That's not something that's easy to do with your average box shaped camper made out of plywood and Chinesium.

Many new RVs are aluminum frame and double Azdel walls. Nothing to rot, and 1/5th the price of a comparable airstream.

We bought our immaculately maintained 2011 classic when it was 9 years old - and gladly paid about 85% of the new sticker price for it. If we hadn’t there was another party hoping we didn’t. We love it.

I’m not sure the point I was trying to make was clear - if you take really good care of your Airstream you can enjoy it for a decade and still get a lot of your money back when you sell it. Can you do that with other brands? I really don’t know.

@@DavidLaFerney Hi David - great question...until Covid hit the answer was no...now with Covid you can sell used RVs and any automobile for top price. This is an anomaly however and someday sooner or later RVs will go back to a high depreciation rate. However, Airstreams and fiberglass campers (Scamp, Casita, Big Foot, Escape Trailers etc) are the two types of trailers that hold their value the best no matter what the market conditions are. I do love my Basecamp. My other experience was a 27’ Jayco with a slide and its always fun to be out however the stying was dated from the factory. This Airstream is so timeless somehow blending the modern and vintage design. This thing gets so much attention everywhere it goes

@@frankiethefrog1752 I didnt anticipate the attention. The Jayco never got any. People just come up to this thing like its puppy on wheels. This isnt something I have control over. As far as price, show me any box design, wait. I’ll make it easy. Show me any other trailer that last longer than 20 years without falling apart or looking like it is. Some parks have rv age limits. Guess what manufacturer is exempt from that rule?

I remembered in long beach , calif. Here where i live...back in the 1960s a bunch of neigbors owned airstream trailers. Their musta been 7, or 8 of em...all lined up..in front of each house.

I have to say that I'm very happy with our 2008 22' Airstream Safari Sport that we bought in 2009 when the economy wasn't so hot ! & we were able to get a good deal on the travel trailer & talk them down on the price! Can't do that now days & this trailer sat on the lot for almost a year , & that was our good fortune. & we also have a nice breezeway to park her in out of the weather , & she is always covered there & for 12 years she has been a pretty trouble free camper , & it was considered a entry level Airstream trailer at the time so allot of the items are manually operated , But it is still a quality built travel trailer & I have no regrets buying this camper especially when I see what they are going for now days . I'm a true happy camper & all the items that needed repair I was able to do myself & she is still worth the money spent , & this is the 1st travel trailer We have ever owned.

My new 2003 Airstream Safari model suffered a MAJOR electrical short circuit that luckily blew the main breaker---or the result could have been catastrophic!! We were out at the time in town, but our dog and parrot were in the trailer along with all of our possessions. Under warranty required that we unload and store everything then drive 300+ miles for warranty work. The finding was that a rivet had been forced into a main wire, and finally road stress had caused the short circuit. Quality construction??????? By the way, the short circuit occurred after we owned the trailer for 3 months. I sold it and bought a beautiful used Phoenix Cruiser motorhome.

I am 10 years into a 66 flying cloud rehab. Trying to keep it original as much as possible within reason. You have to update the electrical plumbing and lighting . Only three years of airstreams came with flush mount windows with no trim which are somewhat hard to come by. My interior wood is tiger maple which is beautiful but it is somewhat damaged and cannot be matched . My progress on restoration is somewhat sporadic so I have no definite timeline on completion

Thanks for the video. My wife and I have been looking at Airstreams for a few years now. We have thought about buying a shell and building it up, we are handy, and also looking at newer ones that only need some tweaking to make it our own. A brand new one is just too much for us. I would say the popularity and resale value of these Airstreams have to do not only with the craftsmanship that goes into them but the fact that they are a real slice of Americana.

Ease of towing , simplicity but yet everything you need , Insulation and aluminum shell keeps it really cold on the hottest day, quality materials , No chemicals used to make anything inside of them so unlike all other campers your not breathing all those chemicals inside the camper . Love it

I love the look of the Airstreams but....very limited storage underneath, no electric awnings, no pop-outs. My wife hates the look of them. I think they are stunning with all that aluminium :)

I am in love with the Airstream beamers... out of all the trailers out there, it is the only brand that you can feel assured that quality is at best, hey it has its pros & cons! But all brands do! It’s how you make it fit your lifestyle... this week I went to my first RV show in West Palm, just so I can see one in person aaaah! Choice between the Bambi & Carvel...but the Flying Cloud Office NICE! So many uses... towing doesn’t look that bad! Until I get on the road...I’ll start with a 20footer then go from there😃I see it in my future!🛣💙

Five years ago I bought a 1981 Airstream Excella II 25FK. The trailer is all original and in very good condition. My 42 year old trailer has never leaked. About 3 years after I bought it, I decided to get an appraisal; just for fun (BTW, there were only 7 of this model ever made). Well, the number the gave me was over $20,000 more than what I paid. Having 75% of all Airstreams made since 1931 are still on the road. I plan to give this to my nephew who's 14 now. I take very good care so I'm confident it can last another 40 years.

Mike, we bought our first 25’ Airstream in the mid 1980’s used. We now have a 19’ Bambi and celebrated our 20th anniversary of owning it this last May. She looks amazing! I must say there is no RV that matches its quality and durability as a whole. However today when we go to the annual large RV shows its clear there is inconsistency with the quality of the fit and finish. You’ll walk into one Airstream and panels, lights cabinets etc. are perfectly aligned, walk into another and trim is funny shaped or kinked, carpet or flooring has pulled away, items are loose or fallen off. (This is not from being at the show) I took a picture of a new one at our dealership that had so many rivets come off the ceiling that i was able to put my entire hand between the aluminum panels. My last disappointment is the suppliers have mostly gone to buying or making their appliances in China. My Dometic refrigerator was made in Sweden, later ones made in US, now China. My A/C, water heater, pump, even light fixtures where all made in US and still working. Today they are mostly made in China, same with water heater, water pump, stove, fans, A/C etc. I called Dometic not too long ago and the rep mentioned to me they had a huge recall on the Chinese refrigerators. The reason so many companies are going with Chinese made products is the profit margin is enormous but the quality is disappointing. I work for a company that builds laser machines and they know the Chinese parts they buy are inferior but they are drunk with the amount of profit they make, which is sad because its such a short term view for their company’s future. Yet if we ever bought another RV it would be an Airstream and repair or replace the inferior items as the breakdown and hopefully find quality replacements.

Hi Joe, These are all excellent points. Our entire economy is dependent on China for cheap goods. Just look at Amazon for example. I would bet that 90% of everything sold on Amazon comes from China. It is a shame that we have given up our manufacturing capabilities in exchange for cheap junk products. And people seem to be willing to pay less for junk rather than pay more for quality. As I'm sure you know Thor Industries now owns Airstream and they are a publicly held company with one goal. Quarter over quarter corporate profits to increase their stock price. And we are supporting and growing a communist power. I have family in China. Chinese people are great, but communism is not. One day we may wake up and think what have we done to us and the rest of the world. I will wait until Airstreams and other products are sourced from democratic countries.

@@michaelsteel5177 EXACTLY. The Chinese people are amazing, their govt not so much. Never thought to see a discussion get this in depth at the root of whats going on while staying casual. Love the AS family, I am just 26 but owned a 32 foot pace arrow RV from 1986 for over a year. I was the 3rd owner and it made me want an airstream. As Joe said, still would buy an AS then replace the China ware. Thats my plan. Only AS's I want though have the dinette in the back, I want this for a variety of reasons but only ones I can fine are 25 foot globetrotter with fqb and 25 foot flying cloud fqb. I would love to find a smaller AS with this design, but still so far from being able to afford it I try to not window gawk :D

An Airstream has been on my "things to get" list for quite awhile but, alas, recent events have pushed that down in the priority ranking order. :-/ I am glad you two did this video.

I bought a 1984 Excella 31 ft. Airstream in 2002. I still have the trailer. Components wear out and fail....AC, water heater, refrigerator, tires, batteries, furnaces, water pump, etc... ALL RVs have basically the same components. This is a house you bounce down the road. stuff wears out and breaks...FIX IT. Airstreams have a monocoque construction like an airplane with plumbing enclosed in a belly pan. THIS IS WHY THEY LAST LIKE THEY DO. Mine is now 37 years old. I have recently replaced the original refrigerator, the second AC, and I have had the furnace rebuilt, and replaced the water heater. They will all eventually have a leak. FIND IT and 5 cents of polyurethane Vulkum or Parrbond sealant in the right place will stop it. The only thing that can go bad on an Airstream structure is the marine plywood floor. Keep the floor dry and you are golden. The best way to prevent leaks is resealing seams and windows periodically, and BALANCE YOUR RUNNING GEAR. An out of balance tire/wheel/hub assembly will shake the crap out of an Airstream, loosen rivets and shake the trailer apart. Centramatic Wheel Balancers are the perfect solution to fine tune tire balancing on any RV to keep the running gear in perfect balance for long trailer life. Google "Centramatic Wheel Balancers". Balance the running gear. Don't shake your trailer apart. I am the third owner. I paid about $10,000 cash in 2002 for the trailer, and today it would sell for $25,000. Show me ANY OTHER USED RV that would APPRECIATE IN VALUE the past 19 years! I. Will. Wait.

I bought a rehabbed 1962 24’ Tradewind and left the east coast in April and am now in the Pacific Northwest. I made some improvements before I left home and I’ve had to repair somethings along the way that shook loose but she’s a trooper. My issue is every rounded edge… you lose a LOT of cabinet/interior space. I don’t doubt they are made better than most, but space is huge.

folks…it is simple: price is always set by what the market will bare…these are considered innovative, indestructible, retro attractive, and beloved by gen y and z…the demand at the moment is elastic, and as such a premium can be demanded without any downside.

We own and live in a 33' 1983 Avion and owned a 31' 1994 Airstream Excella. The Avion we have now is for sure better quality than the 90s Airstreams (Insulation, general great ideas for longevity). But it appears that it often depends on the decade the Airstream was built in. As in Airstream seemed to try to save some money here or there. For example the 60's, 70's, 80's were great quality. The 90's were diappointing. In the 2000s it seemed a bit better again. And these days their main problem seems to be to not have enough qualified techs to deal with repairs afterwards, since, at least I hear a lot, service appointments are booked months out. If a company wants to sell a lot of good quality trailers...that is great, but your service capability afterwards is as important as the initial sale. In the end... I would still always prefer any aluminum trailer to a standard box trailer. The look is just unbeatable.

One BIG problem with an Airstream trailer is hail storms. I had a late model AS and a hail storm came through and did over $20,000.00 in damage. And the hail stones weren't really that large, maybe size of a ping pong ball or smaller. And the storm lasted only a few minutes. Once this happens, you better have good insurance and even if you do, you probably won't have it fixed. You will pocket the money and sell the damaged trailer for a little less because of the hail damage. Airstream factory can and will repair hail damaged trailers but because of cost, most people won't have the trailer repaired. Just saying. No one ever talks about hail damage when they are discussing Airstream trailers.

Will also be a problem for an ATC RV. ATC trailers are all aluminum including the frame and floor. Aristreams have a wood floor. Check out the ATC trailers before you buy an Airstream...I would buy an ATC again, but not an Airstream...with aluminum you will also get dents from rocks kicked by your and other vehicles on the front no matter what brand you get...Ideally extra protection on the front of the tailer. A plus for the Airstream is the rally's they hold and the caravans....My advice avoid the used Airstream slide and no slide on the ATC, although as well as they build the trailer over others, they may have a better way they build their slides....My family was an Airstream family and I bought an older one and restored and got 2nd best retored airstream an the international held in Vermont yeares ago.

When I was a kid my parents told me they were water tight, and you could float one in the ocean....is that true?? We had a big family so that kind of expense was out, but we had a pretty good, and useful Prowler back in the 70's....had fun time.

These definitely have quality but my cousin bought 1 had it for 2 years and finally traded up to a toy hauler with a slide out. they had enough money from the sell of their air stream to not only get the barely used toy hauler but to buy a used side by side and get a used truck to pull it.. That's insanity for how much these airstreams cost. My cousin is so much happier with the toy hauler

I bought a 2 year old Caravel 20FB this summer and have been very happy with it. Yes the upfront cost is very steep, but when I go to sell it, that check will be very nice! Part of the reason for purchasing an AS was the fact they did not have slides. I've seen way too many videos about the eventual maintenance on those. I do think Oliver makes a very nice TT as well and their price point is similar to an AS. Competition is good for this industry.

We have a 2017 Classic and had so many problems...... I call ours a Classic Lemon 🍋 It cost a small fortune to fix the issues. The only good thing is that it keeps its value so much better then other campers.

My 2018 23 foot flying cloud is doing fine for my wife and I (just us two). We had to change the dining table top to a smaller size to be able to sit down. We never intended to use it as a bed. We have had a dozen minor problems that I easily fixed myself (nuts come loose, screws fell out, hinge detached). One must be handy otherwise you would spend all your time at the dealer. My dealer for example is 275 miles away! We had only one warranty problem that was covered by the appliance warranty (furnace). I found an RV mechanic who could do that work only 40 miles away.

I was at the Hershey, PA RV show a few years ago and I went to look at the Airstreams because I was curious about why people are fascinated by them. They were soooo HOT, those silver Twinkies just soaked up the heat, not sure if they didn't have enough power to properly rim the AC or what??? But on a 90 degree day, it just made this pricy campers look HORRIBLE because no way I'm going to pay premium price on something that can't stay cool on a hot day! Every other RV manufacturer at the show had nice and cool RV's. I'm sure people can defend them all day, but in the end, that was my experience, that dealership failed, BIG TIME.

Hi Pam, I would suggest buying used rather than new. And you could also consider buying a fiberglass camper. They are great quality too. The components (fridge, water heater, etc) are the same on Airstreams as the other brands. The aluminum skin won’t delaminate but it is highly sensitive to damage from rocks, hail, etc. Additionally, every rivet and seam must be sealed to prevent leaks. I found the water bay on our Jayco to be superior in every respect to the one on the Airstream. The Airstream tows FAR better than the average box trailer.

I remember a 16 ft Bambi in our camping circle with multiple small dents around the door area, not sure why maybe kids. This is what got me to buy a fiberglass trailer instead. I settled on a 17 ft Casita which we had and camped with for 12 yrs. Loved it.

All other RVs should learn the quality from the Airstream.

I used to think Airstreams were too expensive until I watched the Airstream KZread channel about building one. Amazing amount of effort goes into the construction. One thing I was surprised about in the interview is the mention of the NevER Lube bearings. Those thing s are awesome until they fail (and they will all grease eventually dries up) and you are then stuck on the side of the road needing a press and an $80 bearing that no one has. It's far better to do your yearly packing and have parts available at most auto parts stores as Dexter standard axle bearings are. I am very surprised Airstream uses these. I quickly converted my old 5th wheels 7000lb axles back to standard bearings and found the Nevermind bearings about ready to give up when I did.

Most people are not happy with the same rv long enough to make that investment. I’ve owned 9 rvs in 20 years. The one I purchased in 2002 I sold to my friend and he still has it and it’s fine. If you dent your airstream it’s expensive. All the components are the same and that’s the stuff that breaks. They do tow nicely because of the shape but they have wood floors until recently and when they rot out it’s a nightmare to fix them. Bottom line if you bought one 20 years ago and took good care of it you could sell it for what you paid for it. If you kept it 4 years and sold it you’d take a big hit probably for more than you paid for your jayco. Keep in mind that many rv parks won’t let a 10 yr old camper in

What brands do you recommend? I have a 2014 Dutchmen Aerolite and so far so good except for the toilet I replaced the plastic Thetford(leaked) with a Dometic porcelain toilet

Have a family member that works for Airstream, building them and he swears that Airstreams are built to be used long-term and to last. The doors themselves are built to be slammed shut. I dream of one day owning an Interstate 24x or a Flying Cloud 30FB Office to live out of at least for a little while.

@@RVBlogger Yeah they went through a ton of upgrades over the years after listening to customer feedback and now a lot of them come standard with onboard solar power, much bigger and better batteries as well as inverters. For the price you pay for an Airstream they are the epitome of "you get what you pay for".

My 1984 31 Excella Limited is still in all original very good condition and with routine maintenance will be around another 38 years. I like the mechanical features on the new ones. I am the third owner, original owner kept it 12 years, second owner 10 years and I have owned it 16 years. I keep it under cover and out of foul weather when not in use.

@@mikej6544 It's because I do believe in Airstream. They are rock solid campers and I have the financial resources to move up in size. If I didn't, I would buy a different brand. I'm not not other brands. Through the learning process, I should have bought a larger camper. This is my last camper. We found the right size.

I feel in love with the presentation, but for the price, it would be a little out of the Budget... Love the Product!! Also a Teacher

There is a house in Westmonster Colorado that has a couple airstream trailers cut into 3 sections each, completely gutted. Part of one of them is hoisted off the ground, I hope it's some kind of creative restoration project. But they have been sitting like that for years.

I have a hard time justifying the price with how far other "quality" (not all) manuafcaturer's products have come in just the last 10 years. I can't knock the Airstream quality. But the price difference between other "quality" brands is just crazy. Look at the 23ft Flying Cloud at $95,000. And then look at a high-end Jayco Eagle 34ft at less than $60,000.... it's just crazy. 30 years ago it made more sense because other brands were so far behind. But now, you look at all you get with these other brands, from the warranty, higher-end electronics (most Airstream don't even have Smart TVs), better floorplans, available slideouts = more liveable space.... it's becoming harder to see the Airstream "advantage." I still can't wrap my head around spending over $100,000 on an RV that has an awning design that appears to date back to the 60's!!!! LOL!

Two words: resale value. Airstream is the Mercedes G-Wagon of travel trailers. Even a 30 year old version is tens of thousands of dollars. Neither product has changed that much in their model lifetime, yet both depreciate at a slower rate than comparable products - as mentioned at 7:30

Jayco is your example of a "quality" manufacturer? Jayco? That's that's comedy.

Airstream has always been the best, the mobile home to own. Like most things of quality, more money initially, but the resale value offsets the higher initial investment. I lived in trailer houses and mobile RV's for lots of years and Airstream is worth seeing in person, if you are in the market.

They fail to mention that many of those OLD Airstreams have had expensive restorations. People love them because they look cool and are unique, and as he said, they don't change much year to year. However, Airstreams DO require maintenance and will leak if the maintenance is not performed. They also have plywood floors which will rot if exposed to moisture for a long time. In other words, you can't just let the trailer sit out in the weather for years and years end expect it to last forever. Better than most trailers for longevity, but not as good as molded fiberglass.

Definitely not a 4 season camper unless you make active efforts to retrofit and field-adapt. We rented one that had a frozen burst pipe, indoor walls sweat in the winter. I wish they would do a better job with winter season prep....even if they have a winter season option package that would be nice

I'm not really much into RVs but I knew the answer to this before watching the video which was interesting. You can see the quality Trying to remember the name of the maker but I think there was an airstream competitor through the 50s. Oh! It was Spartan aircraft in Oklahoma I believe? Both of them are made more like an aircraft then a box trailer And one of the posters was right about buying quality You only need to buy quality once

I love the airstream trailers but the worst feature overall in my opinion is the shower size on most models. I’m 6’1” tall and over 200 pounds. Showers are cramped, and short and uncomfortable. At the very least the shower pan needs to be flat without the ride Lohs small benches. I get that in some cases it must be allowing for the wheel well, but frankly they are ridiculous.

I've been binge-watching KZread RV crashes, caused by owner and wind. How do Airstreams rate in wind and overall handling when driven by a correct vehicle? I can only assume it's less affected by wind.

I’ve had a “white box” and this is my second Airstream now and I invested in a compensating hitch (ProPride) that helps quite a bit. In certain wind conditions, you will still feel that semi starting to pass you. He’ll move you around, but having had my first Airstream without a compensating hitch, the hitch does a lot. The tow vehicle also has a lot to do with stability. Things like the length of wheelbase and weight of the tow vehicle will effect handling in the wind. Just because it’ll pull it doesn’t mean it will handle it! You don’t need to be the guy that goes rabbit hunting with a 30-06 but buy something substantial. When the trailer handles the TV you’re in trouble!

I saw a you tube many years ago that tested numerous trailers in a s shaped course. Test to failure (aka. Flipped) and the Airstream was champ.

One thing I can see right away from seeing you both at the table is 4 people really could have a full meal on the table plus the work area for 16 inch laptops works too

They are so expensive because there are enough well off people who would rather RV than stay in resorts.
