    I see that you made a jumper connection between tube lugs. I'm looking to build my first amp and the instructions for the kit I've been checking out suggest bending and crimping the two lugs together. Would you warn against this? Are those lugs very fragile? Great series btw!

  • @elams1894

    @elams1894

    5 жыл бұрын

    You can bend the lugs together however I don't really like modifying the socket in that way. If the socket lug breaks, or if it is weakened by the bending, then you may run into problems later. The last thing you want is to break a lug as they are pretty delicate. Normally, a nice tinned lug and a resistor lead or wire that makes good contact through the eye of the lug is all that is necessary. I dont wrap a lead or wire entirely around my tube socket lugs (personal preference) as doing so means that you'll never get that component or wire out. Just make sure you make a decent contact and your soldering is sound and you'll be right. Cheers!

    PETR DOLEZAL See the earlier videos. The board is custom laminated, using fibreglass and epoxy, as far as I recall. The turrets I can't remember but he gently tapped them in with a hammer before peining the ends on the opposite side of the board.

    Very pretty but bear in mind parallel wires maximise inductive coupling which can be a big issue in tube amps. Looks like you're not building a high-gainer so no worries

    Hi Fi builds, awesome! I drew up a mono block circuit a while back but as yet have not got around to building it. Hi Fi building takes on another level of meticulous and my mind boggles at some of the prices of the top quality components such as those beautiful beer can capacitors. I was going to use much lower end capacitors myself as the price was prohibitive. What components do you use, just out of interest. Thanks Ian!

    the caps i use are orange drops brown drops and vishay caps and resistors and allen bradley resistors too , you don't need lage caps in HI FI valve amps 330MF good PI filter choke, good diode rectification circuit in HIFI amp and preamp is always a good thing don't want any sag
