Small Faces - Tin Soldier

Small Faces - Tin Soldier
I'm a little tin soldier
that wants to jump into your fire
you are a look in your eye
a dream passing by in the sky
I don't understand
all I need is treat me like a man
'cause I ain't no child
take me like I am
I got to know that I belong to you
do anything that you want to do
sing any so song that you want me to sing to you
I don't need no aggravation
I just got to make you
I just got to make you my occupation
I got to know that I belong to you
do anything that you want to do
sing any so song that you want me to sing to you
All I need is your whispered hello
smiles melting the snow
nothing heard
you eyes are deeper than time
say a love that won't rhyme without words
so now I've lost my way
I need help to show me things to say
give me your love before mine fades away
I got to know that I belong to you
do anything that you want to do
sing any so song that you want me to sing to you
oh no no
I just want some reaction
someone to give me satisfaction
all I want to do is stick with you ,'cause I love you

Loved the Small Faces back in the day, Steve Marriotts voice was just the best. Loved Humble Pie ,some of his best vocals were with that band, very sad ending to his life. Steves daughter Mollie Marriott is touring UK this year with Rick Wakemans Xmas show and I'm sure she'll be belting it out like her dad.looking forward to the show. Also not forgetting the other members of the small faces ,all talented musicians. RIP to the ones departed😢❤❤❤

Marriott was always a treat to see live. He was about 5 foot 3 or so and when he opened his mouth it was UNBELIEVABLE the power that came out. Saw for first time live 1970, Cleveland Public Hall, Humble Pie, and just about every time he came thru Cle thereafter. R.I.P. Steve.

Born in South London in 1951 I had the absolute pleasure of living through this never to be equalled time of kick ass music, rocking out to these fantastic live bands every weekend at Streatham Locarno, Purley Orchid, Surrey Rooms and if you wanted more soul it was The Ram Jam. I knew a great band from Manchester in the early 70's called Wide Open and got very close to their vocalist from Salford called Billy Simpson (very Joe Cockerish voice) and he told me of the time he first saw these guys at Belle View and how the enormous wall of sound and talent blew everyone away. R.I.P. Stevie, Ronnie and Mac, so fucking proud!

joe smith why is that Joe? I grew up with Small Faces, Kinks, Stones, Animals etc. It was widely recognised that Steve Marriott had one of the best voices. Breaking up with the rest of the band was his downfall. I understand that Keith was keen on Steve joining The Stones, but Mick vetoed it, nowing that Steve couldn’t remain in the background. Small Faces songs are brilliant.

I’m from Chicago, Illinois, smack dab in the middle of the USA, and I happen to agree with you about English music. You have to go by generalizations, rather than going down the rabbit hole of all the specifics, but to me, English music is defined by more color, greater complexity and orchestration, maybe cleaner, often more melodic. American music is characterized by less polish, more emotion, more optimism, less color. Again, gross generalizations, and I’m probably not being very articulate here. A further caveat is that these comments fly in the face of what Tin Soldier represents. What could be more raw or powerful than this tune. Here are examples of the differences between US and UK music: Jefferson Airplane doing Plastic Fantastic Lover, live, versus Elton John doing Captain Fantastic.

Peter Frampton sent me here..."I can't believe this but Ian Mclagan, or Mac as we know him, has passed away from a stroke he had on Tuesday. He was a dear friend from "Small Faces" and then "Faces" with Rod Stewart, Ronnie Lane, Ronnie Wood and Kenney Jones. At one point Mac was going to be in Humble Pie. He was an incredible keyboard player with an ocean of soul in reserve at all times. He also played with the Stones as well as Dylan and Bruce. Mac wrote the book on how a Hammond organ and Wurlitzer piano should be played in a rock band. Listen to "Tin Soldier" by the Small Faces! I will miss him terribly as all who were lucky enough to know him will too. Good bye old friend. I'll be seeing you .... RIP" ` Peter Frampton (Facebook post on 12 /4/ 2014)

My favourite song, from the moment Marriott shouts, come on! I was hooked, I jumped out of my seat and stood by the radio with the volume turned up. I went and bought Ogden's, I bought a song book and learned to play it on my guitar, I raved about it so much that a lot my friends started to listen them, recently I got a 19 year old co worker hooked. Sadly I didn't know much about them until Ronnie died and there was a tribute to him on the radio, I did have an excuse though as I was only born in '67 the summer of love. 😀

We were sadly, unaware of the band, except for one hit "Itchycoo Park". I only discovered this band through a friend, who's only 42 years old now! They never played in America...and their mgr. was a thug and a crook. What a catalogue! Just exploding with talent.
