SM64 - The 255 Coin Limit
Ойындар
In this video, I explain everything there is to know about the 255 coin limit and the 999 coin limit. Within a course, your coin score can go up to 999 and will then stop. But when it saves, it will only save the lower 8 bits of your coin score, and so the coin score that gets saved is your coin score within the course modulo 256. Consequently, the maximum coin score that can be saved is 255.
I then go through the courses and explain what the maximum coin score would be within each of them.
At the end, I show a glitch I found that works as follows: if you clone a bob-omb and release it as the bob-omb is exploding, the bob-omb will walk around in an enlarged state.

The annoying part about this for Pannen is that every time he exits a course, his KZread name gets changed to "pannenkoek220".
@empyreum6869
2 жыл бұрын
Well, assuming the pannenkoek trinary name limit only saves 4 trits, He has a maximum saved trinary name value of 80 (Shout out to PC Simo). Assuming he wants to come back and do his next video with his original name we can calculate how many times he would need to exit a course for pannenkoek2012 to bring us another video. If only we had the number for the amount he already has exited a course ,we could approximate the next time he would become pannenkoek2012 again. naturally this wouldn't take very long but i guess the reason for his delay is that his whole name:pannenkoek2012 is a part of an even bigger 29 cypher name value system. TLDR: He might be trapped in Pannenkoek Limbo!

I love these videos. They are brutally dissecting SM64, and spills polygon blood all over the floor, because this is no autopsy, the game is still very much alive. The shallow arteries and veins in the throat area are still carrying blood, pumped by a heart that transforms the oxygen that the lungs are refining from yellow, red and blue coins. Thus, when the scalpel carves into the soft, slightly pixelated skin, the red liquids come gushing out in a pulsating manner, because there is no death. There is only the green mushrooms. The videos are also very well explained, which is always a welcome thing.

If you really still can't understand it even after hearing Pannen's explanation, then I don't know what to tell you, dude. Here's another example that'll hopefully make things a bit clearer: In decimal, 1234 = (1*(10^3)) + (2*(10^2)) + (3*(10^1)) + (4*(10^0)); or, 1000 + 200 + 30 + 4 = 1234. In binary, 1111 = (1*2^3) + (1*2^2) + (1*2^1) + (1*2^0); or, 8 + 4 + 2 + 1 = 15. Did that help?

Benjamin Williams Damn... Not here...
It's the same reason 255 is the last "beatable" level of Pac-Man, because of the binary limit placed in the coding.

There's a very interesting video by Retro Game Mechanics Explained about how exactly the integer overflow affects the game and why it renders the level unbeatable.
This video was so well produced I feel like I learned a lot. Great content!
This is one of best KZread videos ever made.
Jolly Roger Bay only has 104 coins? Hot damn, 100 coin stars are harder than I expected

I actually never got the 100 coins star of that course, it's impossible My record is so close, why can't you give me the star at 50 coins?!
Props for this video, man. You obviously put a lot of work and patience into making it. Thanks for sharing!
Teachers could use these videos to trick kids into learning *MATH!*
I just learned the decimal system AGAIN. nice video anyways
Big Boo's haunt has the same number of coins as number of Pokémon in the first generation. Coincidence? Probably. Hehe, COINcidence.

This blew my mind, I wasn't expecting it to be this good. You won yourself a subscriber :)
From making a half hour video about the coin counter to making a nearly 4 hour video about invisible walls, you really came a *long* way!
The Japanese version goes beyond 999 in the counter, to 1023 at the least, and 65,536 at the most

QuarioQuario54321 yes because of a glitch it goes to 65,000 ish because of the hex dec so you can make multiple coin stars but this is irrevivant because faster glitches have been found

Vivi23 Blue23 It's actually signed so the counter will go to -32768 once you get your 32768th coin. The number displayed will not change then. You cannot use this to get 121 stars by collecting 65,636 coins.

I don't know why I watched all of this.
This actually helps me understand computer science and programming logic. As a newbie to code, these videos are really cool

i love these videos :) idk jack shit about programming but this makes so much sense and helps me understand it on a deeper level w a good sense of foundation knowledge ❤

Fantastic and Awesome video, Pannenkoek2012!!!!!!!!!! Obviously a lot of work must have went into this and this is a very interesting video!!!!!!!!! Again, Great job on the amazing Super Mario 64 video!!!!!!!!!
Dude, this is seriously amazing. Awesome work.
Wow, that was theorically explained in so many ways, I even wouldn't figured this out by myself since I got the game on 2007. Guess this makes you the grand researcher of this game. Great job! We need some more of your discoveries to be shared!

I've had this game since its release and I still never knew!
NEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRDDD!!!!!! ...this was legitimately fascinating.
I understood much (if not most) of this, but I got so deeply involved in the coin limits for each course that I *forgot* what I was even watching in the first place until the final table! xD
This was extremely educational! I might even get my teacher to show it to my class some day(even though half of them will be like "who's mario?")
"Here's a data table" is my favorite phrase.

I learned more about binary and modulo from this video that I did in 2 years of Computer Science. Bravo, DutchPancake. Bravo.
We were learning about binary in math today, and the teacher brought up that the highest you can count with 8 bits is 255, and somehow that sparked my memory of this video I’d watched about 3 years ago. Gonna watch it at lunch tomorrow as a refresher
6 years later and that final tick tock clone is still the sickest thing i’ve ever seen

Nice 😅👍🏻!
I could never find a video on it, but I remember Cosmo posting a video about bypassing a blocked door in Ganon's castle in OoT by entering a room over and over. It reloaded glowing objects at the top of the room which are not deleted unless you leave the entire castle. Eventually, the game removes barriers due to lack of memory, allowing you to continue.

Your visuals can teach more than just understanding Mario. Someone could repurpose it solely to teach people how programming works in general. This is amazing!
That was insane, idk how many weeks it took you to make al lthis footage for us to watch. thanks dude .
