SLUK | Seizing a 37bhp Vespa T5

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

You know how it is, a lovely cold winter's day, brand new 37bhp engine, following the owner on his Casa SSR 265.... he forgets the Vespa still needs running in. What could possibly go wrong?
Here's video 4 of 4 of what turned out to be a twin scooter project, full story on ScooterLab: scooterlab.uk/project-casa-ss...

I did that running in my LML Xpress engine, happened to be the hottest day of the year and was out on the A303 not rizzing it but sedately tootling along and I felt the nip nip nip and had the clutch in just as the back wheel locked. Surprisingly the LML engines seemed to be a fair bit more resilient, not a score or scratch on the cylinder/piston and allowed her to cool down and dropped down to a veritable crawl until she was broken in good and proper. I waited for a cooler day and just filled tank up, sat her outside and ran her through a tankful on idle blipping it occasionally with a bit extra oil in the mix and all sorted.

I had a spun crank once so I feel your pain. I hope you can put it back together without too much trouble…

Running in a new engine following and trying to keep up with an SSR 265 equipped Lambretta may not be the best method. :)

Made me chuckle about the wheelies straight away, took me back to a stupid little mini roundabout, that in 86/87,and my first few weeks on a new standard T5, i struggled to pull away in 1st on said roundabout, just on a like 10 degree angle 🤷🏻‍♂️a load different to the super and pk 80 and 50 special i'd ridden beforehand, i panicked before i even got within a few hundred metres away 🙄🤣

I remember the days, I was the same on my first brand new T5. I wheelied away from MSC by accident when I collected it.

My first Vespa was an R reg Primavera tuned to the nuts by Midland Scooter Centre, I went from a FSE Special to lethal machine and first thing I did was power wheelied it throwing me off onto back good and hard as it careered off for a couple hundred feet. Had the works, 135 Malossi, Pinasco banana zorst, leccy ignition, Mikuni carb, quick throttle and racing clutch setup, paid £150 for it in '85.

Bloody quick scooters you guys were not hanging around ! Just a quick question had the scoot been dyno’d since the build or just run up the road? Back in about 2002 I had a buttock clenching seize on the M25 doing about 50mph on my Gp200 Honda 205 steel barrel , fresco and rejetted 22mm carb the fuel ran out before I could reach the reserve and it promptly seized just as I grabbed the clutch …. I skidded for a good few yards but managed to control it and came to a stop. I let it cool down then it restarted first kick ! I limped to the nearest service station and filled up. After that it was fine …Good old steel barrel 👍

The engine had been on a Dyno but the compression has now been lowered from what it was originally.

Restarted it then ran it open in 3rd just to make sure it's dead. Melted Ali everywhere - you should have stopped at the first seize on a borrowed bike.
