Tom & Wes- thanks so much for your videos- you guys inspired me to get back out onto the river after several years away (raising kids and letting work rule my world). Kids are of an age now where they are interested, and this has been a great thing to do, socially distant but close to home during the present madness. Have been finding some decent flakes up along the Wild Amanoosuc; much better than where I used to prospect over in Byron ME. Was sad to see you were too exhausted to cook and decided on sammiches this week, as we've been experimenting with your camp recipes over the past few weeks. :) Keep it up- and hope to see you on the river one day!

Hey James, thanks for all the kind words, we truly appreciate that! Happy to hear you're getting back out on the river and finding some nice gold :) Byron Maine can be a tough place to find good gold! I promise it won't be sandwiches next week :) See you on the river sometime!

We have the same stick bug things here! They disguise themselves with whatever they have. I wish we could run a sluice in the river here in BC. The argument is that it puts silt in the river..Highbankers are allowed as long as no silt hits the water. I don't get it.. Gas cans to run a pump are ok to bring to the river, but don't make any mud with a sluice, however mud from a pan is fine..

Hi Moto, Thanks for watching and commenting. Every time it comes up for discussion the science says small sluice boxes do no harm. In fact it help stir up organic to feed small fish. This evidence was presented to the Department of Agriculture here in the US and very soon they will be allowing small sluice boxes to be used in many National Parks.

@@hipbeeexplorer Thanks for responding! Where do you think I should go in Maine for my first real experience? I've been starting in a brook behind my house but just garnets so far but good practice. I'm hoping to find a random glacial speck or two but not holding my breath.

If you watch the video that I put up titled “where to find gold in New Hampshire and Maine” it will show you the regions where you are most likely to find gold and it will also show you exact locations where you can park and pan. Let me know how you do. Don’t get discouraged as it takes time to learn how to read a river. Gold likes to hide.

So question for you . Is it better prospecting in the northern part of the river verses middle or southern parts. Or is this a myth . It would seem to me that if the gold comes from the beginning farthest North morecgold would be found . What are your thoughts on this. New subscriber here . Looking forward to more great videos.

  • @hipbeeexplorer

Hi, Thanks for watching. To answer your question....It's better to prospect where the most gold is. That could be anywhere on the river. If the river passes through a bog then it's better to prospect before the river enters the bog. Same thing with a pond. Generall,y here in New England, it's all placer gold so the further a river goes the more gold it picks up.

From what I have heard there is very little gold on the south side of the ridge. There is more gold on the northern side of the ridge. The river that runs north next to Rt16 to Gorham is the Peabody river and I hear there is gold in it. You will have to explore the area to find access points. Good luck exploring and peace.
