Lyrics:
Tell me your the best thing,
I tell you that’s what you need
Rolling on those good looks
Maybe it’s just enough
I know you dream of snowfields
Floating high above the trees
Living for the new thing
Sometimes the new won’t do
Kisses born desert sun
Maybe there’s a car, there
Driving away from here
Taking all the ghosts
The hurt
Well everything starts anew
Tell me what you need
What’s right
Whatever is just enough
Is Living with the truth
A start
Maybe it’s just enough
Kisses born desert sun

I read somewhere that the Slowdive fanbase is getting younger and younger. That's a great testament to how their music connects with people, especially younger people who often feel things very deeply indeed. I know when I was in my teens and early 20s, my emotions were all over the place. Slowdive calmed my soul back then in the early 90s and they still do, now that I am 52 years old. I love the fact the band are just getting more and more popular. Bravo to them!

@@user-wu8sj3ee3d Drugs are great. But all the drugs comments connected to music with deep emotion or dark music. I swear, I read it so so often. And hell yeah this music feels like drugs! So you don’t need any to enjoy it. Drugs can give life a very intense feeling, exactly like this music does. Long time I thought drugs show us something new. So wrong, they show us something that’s already in us, allow us maybe a different perspective or intense feelings. But my experiences have shown that good music can make you feel as vivid/free/euphoric as on drugs. Life is not only emotional, dreamy, crazy with drugs. We have those feelings in us, with or without drugs… would be sad if not

Slowdive's comeback ranks as one of the best in music history. They struggled to find an audience in the 90s, were basically driven out of the business by the music press, yet 30 years later they are now a top ten band across Europe!!

Total rubbish. They didn’t fail to find an audience in the 90s. The British music press gave them plenty of gushing praise, which they weren’t entitled to an unending supply of. And they’re not a top ten band according to any metric. That said, you do look like the most unlikely Slowdive fan. So well done for that.

My little sister died a year ago this month, she was only 33. She looked so much like the blonde in this video, making it both lovely and hard to watch. She too used to carry people, she would help everyone, even strangers, until she was exhausted...I imagine in the end she got a lift from someone she trusted and she was able to just let go, hang on, relax, and enjoy the journey. This video is amazing, I interpret it as like, how people come into our lives and we "drive" them through our experiences which is our lives, we get a closeup of the faces of the people in the back seat of the bikes, you can see their expressions and how it all might not have turned out good with the "driver", one of them is even crying. You can tell the driver's face is of a tired person, representing the weight of carrying with all of that, we can see one scene where they're struggling with bottles, a skull, all of their experiences and emotions, going to one place to another with them. Sometimes, it's too much of a burden for us. We need someone to drive us to where we need to be, to help us ease the weight of all, and that's a big part of being human. That's why the smile at the end is so important. The driver is able to feel relaxed for once. Sometimes we need that in our lives, when we can't handle it all. I love Slowdive so much, I have been listening to them since I was 14 and they've help me relax and deal with emotions during my youth, I am so happy that they're still around and bringing us so much, I cant be more thrilled to feel again their sounds.

a dreamy and somewhat cryptic song that seems to explore the theme of seeking fulfillment in new experiences and the impact of fleeting moments ... the song starts with the singer acknowledging the affirmation of being the "best thing" to someone, yet questioning if that is truly what they need ... this ambivalent sentiment is characterized by the chorus repeating the phrase "born desert sun" multiple times, which could represent the transience and warmth of a fleeting moment ... the second verse introduces the idea of leaving behind previous struggles and "ghosts" to start anew in a car ... however, the singer questions what is truly necessary for a fresh start, and whether "living with the truth" is enough ... the song seems to acknowledge that sometimes the "new thing" or "kisses" might be enough to provide temporary satisfaction, but it is unclear whether this will truly lead to a fulfilling and lasting sense of happiness .... overall, "Kisses" seems to be an introspective exploration of the fleeting nature of happiness and the search for fulfillment in new experiences, all set to the dreamy and atmospheric soundscapes that Slowdive is known for ...

I love this song and video so much. It’s like a movie condensed into a dreamy four minutes. You’re immediately invested in the characters and need to know more about them, their backgrounds, and how they are connected. The subtle androgyny of the blonde motorcycle driver adds to the mystery. We see them staring wistfully at the young man standing in the water. And in the shadows while the gorgeous brunette passenger who has wrapped them in a hard embrace while on the bike cavorts with the fire-eater. And how does the ending figure in? Seemingly they are sleeping on the driver’s shoulder then the gentle hand on his and his slight grin. I need to know more, and at the same time love the mystery of not knowing. The entire vibe is perfection.

Everytime I hear a new Slowdive album being announced, it's like friendly alien's from the 11th Dimension returning on their spaceship to play their beautiful ethereal new sound through the best PA system while announcing "Don't feel alone earthlings. We're always thinking about you and we will always love you." (I'm breathing a sigh of relief and feeling the love flowing/rushing in through the astral soundwaves)
45 years of listening to music pretty intently. This is a perfect song.

i love how this looks simultaneously from the early 2000s and yet modern
Truly the Master of Shoegaze and Dreampop.
You know, for me this group was something that I did not find in my lifetime. Yes, their last album came out in 2017, but for me they have always been those guys from the 90s who are no longer in that form. And this note of nostalgia for the past and youth has always hurt me in a good way. But today it was as if they told me that I was still alive. And it makes me feel better. This music means a lot to me. I really appreciate it.
Pure dream pop as it should be! Thank you Slowdive for all those years! ❤

Oh man, that is such an utterly beautiful job of casting. I frikkin worship you o casting director, you did an utterly perfect job.
This is officially my song for the summer. So good!
the video, the guitars, the atmosphere, the feeling, the bike, the sad queer, the random old man, the souvlaki restaurant in the background, the ugly boy crying, that memory man delay guitar pedal, the nipple squeezing of this man who is doing fire tricks. Everything is there, truly one of the songs of all time. very big meaning
Kisses is probably the word I think of when I hear Slowdive, really sweet, mellow and tender music, almost surreal.
Such a bright NOSTALGIC melody...... I love it in every way......
Few bands like Slowdive hit majestic peaks, such as this, consistently.
30+years and still making music we fall in love with 💕💕
Perhaps the greatest music video of all time -
First song i’ve heard from them. I really like that ethereal yet modern vibe it has

2:41 I close my eyes and my mind crosses to another dimension, thanks to Slowdive ❤
the music, the visuals, the atmosphere, everything about this is pushing me into romanticizing my melancholic solitude of unrequited love, unfulfilled dreams, denied feelings, pieces of broken heart in the most comforting way slowdive truly is one of the most evocative & enchanting band to exist always a pleasure to listen to their piece of arts
Heavenly vocals, beautiful music and lyrical, visual perfection 🌹🎶🌹
The editing at 1:30 is top-class. A perfect sequence of shots, telling the full story.

would you be willing to briefly explain the story to me? is the person with short blonde hair in a relationship with all these people at once so they feel sad and then pick one they want to truly love and stay with at the end? im confused but i still think it's a dreamy video. anyways, thanks!
This came into my feed after a harrowing weekend struggling with familial dysfunction, trauma, and psych wards. Thank you for pulling me back to feeling again.
Love how danceable this is yet retains that wistful, almost melancholy feel that Slowdive has perfected.
the Cocteau Twins influence is infectious, but this is clearly something different and unique in its own right. absolutely love it.

neil halstead stated in a podcast interview on jan 24th that they took a lot of inspiration from the cure for this record (some might say they did for alot of their earlier work as well lol)
Great music appeals to every generation, timeless, sublime. Every generation can create great music. Someone had to step up in this musical desert of seemingly endless mediocrity. Go old people!!
What a wonderful tune this is while riding on the bus home late at night 🤗❤️
I always get chills the first time hearing a new Slowdive song. Beautiful 🖤
Definitely my just ending summer song. It fits perfectly and I’m glad this is the tune that is gonna give so good memories every time I’m gonna listen to it. I wish all of you what I experienced in the last two weeks.

Rachel and Neil, the 90s seem like a long time ago, I was a teenager back then listening to your music on cassette tapes. You guys (and Christian and Simon, and also Nick) have been an inspiration over the years... Mojave 3. Minor Victories. The Zephyrs... Don't ever stop.

@@elusory3735 To be precise, this song is not even shoegaze. More like triphop/lofi/dreampop And yes, to be precisely correct, this song is mixture of Souvlaki (1993) + Slowdive (2017)
This song helped me so much during the end of this year, I had gone through so much in a matter of a year, when I came across this song I met this person that changed me entirely, her smile brang something new to me, I truly never felt happy with someone I never even met before, I had this song on replay all the time when I thought of her, and when my emotions were all over the place, I learned to be a better person for her and me.
The visuals for this video is 110% my aesthetic i just wish i had freinds that had the same aesthetic, living in the south its hard to find ppl that do
