SLOW SPEED MORSE CODE - Practice with Captions

Ғылым және технология

Captions are provided to decode the QRS CW QSO messages. Paul reveals the true magic of QRS combined with homebrew radio gear! I waited for Paul, KY4CE, to finish his QSO with Jerry, W4LGJ, before calling Paul.
The technique of waiting for a conversation to finish, and then calling one of the stations is called "tail-ending". It is an easy way to make radio contacts. When tail-ending a QSO, be sure to send the call sign of the station you wish to contact, not just your own call sign.
Paul replied to me and told me about his homemade tube transmitter and solid-state receiver. This is yet another excellent QSO that reconfirms my theory that the quality of CW communications is more a function of the content of the information shared than it is of the transmission speed.
You can also change the speed of the code in this video by using the KZread playback speed settings. Have fun and keep talking with your fingers!

This video is encouraging. I began as a novice around 1990. I never got much further than 5 words a minute. I've been considering getting on with CW. This video may have got me inspired to do just that. Thank you.

That looks like my dream shack.....from when I was a kid in the 70s! I do miss building the stuff with the metal boxes and tubes. Great stuff!

Hi Seth, Thanks for your comment. When I started doing these 15 years ago, KZread would allow captions to be directly entered onto the video after uploading. I spent a lot of time adding the captions of what was being communicated in Morse code. Then, for whatever reason, YT erased all the captions and eliminated the ability to enter them directly via KZread. I was a little disappointed, because people had been using those captions to practice Morse code. Later, I got some video editing software so was able to make a few more with the captions. Also, for my viewers, I never monetized my channel. That eliminated commercials for a while - but now even non-monetized channels like mine have commercials. Hope to hear you on CW Seth. 73 Lynn

good video, except for the frequency shift during reception, which makes it quite uncomfortable to ear

Hi Tony, it's all relative. I try to work on content of the message instead of speed. GL and 73 Lynn
