After owning our trailer for two years we are finally able to undertake an RV upgrade we've wanted to do since day 1 - replace the factory mini blinds with Slow-Rise day/night roller shades. We dislike just about everything about mini blinds. They are clunky, unattractive, the cats like to bash them and make tons of noise at night, and worst of all they don't even block light very well.
Slow-Rise day/night roller shades solve all these issues. They operate smoothly, look great, wont be bothered by our pets, and make it nearly pitch black in our RV! We got our roller shades from Irvine Shade since they manufacture the same roller shades that go in the Keystone Montanas - which we love. We were surprised with how easy this install was - by far the easiest RV upgrade we've done!

Very helpful video, many thanks. What I thought was fascinating and really nice was after installing your first new blind, when you lowered the day shade, the outdoor colors became so much sharper and prettier looking. That all by itself is appealing, and adding in getting rid of the blinds racket while traveling is terrific. Thanks again, Terry.

I have worked with my hands my whole life. Artist, Carpenter, Sign Maker. I prefer to work alone. But occasionally I have to work with others. Working with someone can only be fun if your partner can really help you. And not get in the way. I love watching you two work together. You are a real team. It's like one person with four hands. Your wife is the key to this. (sorry, I'm new here and I haven't learned your names yet.) She doesn't try to take control or get in the way. She anticipates your next move and assists with that. I see it in the videos. *That is a UNIQUE ability. So Kudos on that. Also, I love these new blinds too. Now if you can figure out a way to create a peephole that the cats can see threw ALL your problems will be solved. It won't be long before they start messing with the new blinds. They're still gonna wanna look out. They're Cats.!

Great job! I would love to change out my day night shades for these! You covered everything but the cost. Most trailer bedroom windows are about the same size, if you gave us the approximate cost of that particular size shade, most of us would be able to determine if adding these type of shades to our rigs was cost prohibitive. Thanks for the tutorial.

Happy first day of Spring to you all! Guess what?!? I did it. I really did it. I bought a rig today. One giant step forward, eh? I bought a Keystone Hideout Hornet(?). Oh yea. I'm still on crutches from last month's knee reconstruction. Nine month recovery....but my surgeon didn't say I couldn't become a crazed boondockin' cat lady during this "said recovery". Thank you both for keeping me inspired and schooled on how to do what, when to do it and where to stay while living life outside of the rat race. I will be binge watching your videos, again..for the third time! Thought I could remember first go round. Second time, my notes are horrible. Ahh, I know the 3rd time won't be the last either. Be forewarned..there will be some rano off the wall questions heading your way. Scratches n hugs to the four legged family. Jenni, if David insists, give him some too. Thanks again for motivating this ol' gal to haul @ss up and out of these sticks n bricks, dee

When it was time to replace the cheap vinyl original mini blinds, I went with a mix of the day night dual roller blinds as in the video and stayed with mini blinds with metal for some of the windows. The mini blinds allow for much more control of the light in the day yet still do not let others see inside. The daylight roller blocks out a lot of light when pulled all the way down. More light comes in when part way down, but then people can see inside.

David and Jenny. If you keep modding your Springdale the way you have been, I have a DIY project idea for you that I would like to see a video of. On the nose of the trailer you should remove the "Summerland" decal and replace it with a "Montana" decal. Get one printed in Springdale font and color so it would match. "Springdale by Keystone Montana Series". Not everyone would notice, but for those of us who are in the know... Big grins!

These look great!! Our Springdale suffers from the same issues. Two questions -- 1) how are they for combating sun exposure? Are they going to fade bad? We park our coach with all the shades closed when we're not in it to keep the cushions from fading. Are you worried that the sun will destroy them? 2) Are they really pricey? Their website doesn't show ANY pricing. Just curious if this is a huge amount to convert or not.

Great "How To" video ! You and RV Geeks do the best "How To" videos on KZread. But now what are the cats going to play with ? You need to do a follow up video of their new interaction with the new blinds. Adventure Kitty might get her claws stuck in the fine mesh daytime blind ? Haven't read all the comments below but curious as to cost. The web site link didn't contain actual cost estimates.

I'm definitely upgrading mine soon. Where did you actually buy the shades? From a local dealer or one of the online sellers?

How do you make the needed measurements? Are they the same width and height as existing units?

Aww poor kitties you took their toys away. But omg I laughed so hard watching her play in the window. We have plastic ones but to be honest we never have them down because we have the can’t see in coating on our windows which I hate, because it is. Always so dark in my trailer during the day. Then I have no idea what the weather is like until I open the door.. I wish I could change that.

Hey is it possible to evaporate the water from your grey water tanks, like distillation . But no need to save the water just evaporate it with heat with solar , maybe a fan or bubbler , maybe use parts of a small distiller unit but just evaporate all the water so you don’t have to dump grey water , just use a small distiller powered by solar and turn it all to mist. Wondered if you could try some experiments like this

Question; why didn't you remove the Valance angle brackets and use the new shade brackets to hold the valance with the hole at the end of the new shade bracket?
