Slow Cooker Baby Back Ribs

SLOW COOKER BABY BACK RIBS
This is the updated recipe for baby back ribs on my site. In fact, it's the very first recipe on my site and one of the reasons I starting blogging.
RECIPE:
INGREDIENTS:
1 rack back pork ribs
1 cup water
½ cup sweet baby ray’s bbq sauce
2 teaspoons hickory liquid smoke
more sweet baby ray’s bbq sauce for serving
Rub ingredients:
2 tablespoons brown sugar
¼ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon paprika
SLOW COOKER SIZE:
5-quart or larger
INSTRUCTIONS:
Remove the silver skin from the back of the ribs, I do this by lifting an edge of the middle of the ribs and tearing off in one piece.
Cut the ribs into 4 sections.
In a small bowl prepare the rub; combine the brown sugar, onion powder, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Put the rub onto ribs with hands.
Place the ribs in the slow cooker. Pour the water and liquid smoke in around the ribs. (note- you can add the liquid smoke into the rub instead of adding it in the water if desired).
Cook on low for 8 or high for 4 hours.
Brush with more warmed barbecue sauce if desired and serve.

This has become a twice a month recipe in our house. After I remove the ribs from the slow cooker, I place them on a foil lined pan, brush with more bbq sauce, and broil for a few minutes to caramelize. Outstanding!

look....being honest I made ribs 2 times previously. both times they were excellent. however one time I parboiled then grilled and the second time I slow cooked on charcoal for a thousand hours. this way took 15 minutes to prep and when they started to fall apart I shut the CP off, fried my spuds with peppers & onions and BOOM ! they lacked grilling taste ( didn't have liquid smoke ) but that was a very even trade off. they were great. thanks for giving a solid recipe in minutes without tons of unnecessary BS.

What is liquid smoke? Do you have to use it?

  • @TheMagicalSlowCooker

    @TheMagicalSlowCooker

    2 жыл бұрын

Liquid smoke comes in a small bottle (near the ketchup) you can add a little to recipes to make them taste like they've been smoked. You can leave it out! Many people do.

It is a liquid in a bottle that tastes like smoke (like barbecue). You do not need much in recipes. You can find it near the ketchup at the store.
