Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico shot in Handlova | BBC News
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has been shot, according to local media reports.
Mr Fico was shot in front of a cultural community centre in the town of Handlova, where a government meeting had been held, reports say.
Several shots were heard, according to journalists on the scene.
The Slovak leader has been taken to hospital and his alleged assailant detained by police.
Handlova is around 180km (112 miles) north-east of the capital Bratislava.

As a Slovak, I don't agree with him politically. The issue is not him being left or right wing. What I don't like about him that he is a pure populist that tries to score political points by trying to please his target demographic. I find a lot of his policies harmful for the country. But that is what you get from a complete populist. I don't think that even Robert Fico knows Rober Fico's real opinion about things. That being said, I entirely and strongly condemn this act. I may not agree with him, but he is not only a politician, but also a human being. I can't imagine a sane person would celebrate such an act, despite any differences in political opinions. According the latest information, he is in critical condition. I hope that he will be all right. Edit - Just to clarify. I didn't meant to give the emphasis on my difference of political opinion. I actually have similar issues with all the political parties and leaders currently in Slovakia. I couldn't give my vote in good faith to neither. I wanted to point out that despite different political opinions we shouldn't resort to violence and this kinds of acts are a road straight to hell. I sincerely hope he will get well and my thoughts are with him and his family.

@@mitchyoung93 Maybe he didn't explain it correctly, but this isn't about he being for the people, he's just using short term solutions positive for the aging population (mostly) to gain influence and more time in the government to get more money for himself. He's basically sacrificing the future of the country so he can live out his life in luxury, probably securing his family as well and pulling the rug under everyone else while pretending that country would be doing great without outside help.

"Solutions", that almost never work and pretty much always make things much worse. A typical example would be increasing debt in order to pay out higher pensions. People are happy, because they have more money, but they don't see the cost down the line.

Biggest picture (e.g. including the Eurovision Song Contest a couple of days ago) is the oldest of old stories - GOOD versus EVIL. The War in Ukraine is a sub-part of that, but the picture is best described in the New Testament's 1 John 5:19 That refers to "the world" being evil, but it is usually taken to mean the systems by which the world is organised. As we have seen in the 2020s rather clearly, these have deteriorated further ... including for example with the apparent capture of science and international cooperation by dark forces. The media is further compromised, democracy looks mainly like the divide-and-rule of 40% in a given country resenting and blaming and being against another 40%, while the complex of the fashion-music-film industries looks tainted and in fact openly diabolical - as we saw with Ireland's Eurovision entry. Equally, as a Born Again person I am fairly clear that the Holy Spirit is also active, even being "poured out" as The Bible puts it, so we see a world in which the good and the evil are contrasted more strongly than perhaps we have been used to. An interesting case, operating in some kind of juxtaposition with Putin's war, was the death of Her Late Majesty - with all the dignity, togetherness, spirituality, order, dignity and meaning associated with that. The Holy Spirit was front and centre with those events which stood in huge contrast with almost everything else happening on a large scale since 2020. Looked at "big picture" and with a measure of scientific detachment, but also with divine discernment (a specific combination), we can also see it as odd indeed that an event as big as the pandemic followed immediately by the war coincides with the steady and ongoing disclosure process regarding UAPs/UFOs - potentially the biggest event in history. If you believe staunch Catholic Prof. Daniel O'Connor - author of the recent, 750-page (!!!) book "Only Man Bears His Image", the UFO matter will be a source of great, Antichrist-type distraction and deception, because in the end aliens are not aliens at all but d*mons. This was of course the motif of the great movie "Signs", but O'Connor says it is inevitable from The Bible - given that that holds that "of all visible creation" [meaning things other than angels and fallen angels], only human beings can know and love God. Daniel cannot accept that a kind, loving God would create an intelligent species that could never love Him back, so he insists that precludes intelligent aliens altogether, anywhere in the cosmos... Since "wars and rumours of wars" is the classic phrase from The Bible referencing signs of the End Times, we can follow that by finding - from Jesus's own blessed mouth - references to famines and earthquakes, to people falling away and turning to hate rather than love, following false prophets, a need to flee, and later signs in the sky of various kinds... As someone saved for Jesus by the Holy Spirit, and having some power to "see", I think these are indeed "Strange Days", and very possibly apocalyptic-looking. The main advice in that case is and must be: turn to Jesus. If you are not with Him already.

Útočník nebol členom PS, nebol nijak spojený s PS, a ani časopis Dúha, na ktorý odkazujú Smeraci v komentároch nijak nesúvisí s LGBT. Toto je presne to čo vyhrotilo situáciu natoľko, ze sa toto stalo... nemate ani stipku sebareflexie, iba útočiť na opozíciu, nazývať ich degeneratmi, liberalny hnoj, šíriť lži, fámy a hoaxy, rozdeľovať spoločnosť. As someone from slovakia. It's well known "secret" that he steals state money and works with mafia + his political party killed a journalist that was planing on exposing them. He was reelected by mostly old population of slovakia that he manipulated. Promising lower living costs,but raised them quickly after election. To everyone trying to spread misinformation: guy who shot him was 71 year old Slovak from Levice, who wrote a book with racist theme. He was also member of Slovenskí Branci, pro-Russian paramilitary organization with ties to nazi parties like LSNS, SHO or Republika (who were going to support Fico if they got into the parliment in September 2023). So no, it's not some Ukrainian, it's not because of some made up annoucment that Fico won't sign the WHO treaty, no, it's not because he does not play by EU, because in reality, he does, because if EU does not give us money, there is nothing that he can steal from, so please guys, if you have no idea about politics in Slovakia just keep it down and cry.
