More than 80% of palladium metal is used as a catalytic converter in automobile exhaust scrubbers, which is installed between the engine and inverter insulators in automobiles.

Awesome. Just did that to my 2002 bravada while it was still on the vehicle. 240,000km, went from 15 L/100 KM to 9 L/100 KM on the highway. I work in the oilfield and you can't tell me the emissions made in drilling and producing that 1/3 more fuel isn't worse for the environment than a catylatic converter.

If an area is radioactive polluted, what does it matter if 1 or 2 oil tankers break? In the style of your logic (oil field vs automotive pollution) and I +1 billion people should remove the catalyst because the excess pollution of a car by removing the catalyst is anyway lower than the pollution produced by an oil field ... seriously?

@@PopaAlexandru. I think he meant the 6 litres per 100km which the oilfield wouldn't be producing AND vehicles wouldn't be combusting. Over the life of his vehicle alone would have burned 12,900 less litres of fuel without a catalyst. Now apply that to your one+ billion vehicles and how much less does the oilfield have to produce? Now, do those benefits in addition to saving all the precious metals that goes into converters outweigh the negative impact of the extra NOx emissions? That's what I'd like to know.

only problem you might have is now you get too much gas and thrust..which throws off the tps(throttle position sensor) on some cars..which throws off the solenoid and other transmission sensors...which will cut back your fuel injectors when you need power...on old cars not a problem after 95 if you do this and it runs funny ...now you know why.

***** either or it does not matter.back in the day when i was a mechanic people came in headed home to where ever with the cars skipping really bad and you could smell the converter. it would burn your eyes. so in the 80s we just took a chisel to the cat and rev the engine blew out the pellets..got them home ok. now there are xtra emissions and sensors on cars that rely on the thrust ratio caused converters to run so.taking it off throws of lots of sensors..On my 96 grand Cherokee it changed gears too fast which meant there goes my get up and go because you want the lower gears to start to get up and go quicker..now you are in 4th gear so quick everyone is passing you...lol also i burned lots of fuel. Its ok if you take it off just be prepared for some issues with the computer and tranny and fuel consumption.

Right, what a lot of these guys are saying is spot on. Fines if caught, possibly worse running due to sensor misreading, engine light ect. In the case of mine it was completely plugged up. I temporarily installed a straight pipe in place and replaced it later on when I could afford to. My symptoms were obvious from the get go. No engine light (surprisingly) but a hellacious smelling exhaust. Also, the way 2nd gens dodge rams engines are set up, it did slightly throw off my tips (throttle position sensor), and altered my fuel to air ratio. Whenever it would run, it smelt like those old carberated engines that loved the cold so much you had to pump the gas 3 or 4 times to start. Straight up gas smell coupled with exaughst was not necessarily fun. Did it run, absolutely. Ran pretty much consistantly almost normal. It will get you by but it is frowned upon. Also if your truck gets say 16-17 mpg, after removing, that won't be the case.... more like 10-12. Guzzle your engine will.

To compromise the future. And the present for some. You just committed a tax evasion. The taxes are established according to the pollution norm with which the car is approved. The elimination of the catalyst changed the pollution norm. More serious than evasion is the danger of health. Potassium cyanide causes a violent death but potassium chloride is necessary for life - vis-à-vis pollution.

My 03 S10 had that nasty smell also - (1st clue) ...Engine had no quick acceleration and hesitated to get up to 50mph (2nd clue) Exhaust out the tailpipe was hot as hell - but barely putting out (clincher) Cat was clogged nearly completely closed. Cut it off, straight piped it - truck runs like a scalded cat now. No "rotten egg" smell - shifts smoothly, and stays at 190 - 195 degrees. Not saying do it - just saying it worked for me. And where I live - there is no emission testing....so.......

Anyway, those 6mg multiplied by the number of vehicles (1.2 billion) equals 7.2 tons of poison - the effects are already visible. The climate has gone crazy, pandemics... At least in our country, the ordinary citizen (a certain category in spoecial), when he buys a car, the first thing is EGR-off, CAT-off, DPF-off...EGR must be maintained, CAT and DPF are stolen and will surely fail and replacing them costs . And the strict answer to the question: You don't pay more taxes because there are 14 in the documents. You should pay more, the unpaid difference is called tax evasion.

Really? The sulfur content is gasoline causes them to output hydrogen sulfide and ammonia. While they do reduce carbon monoxide, they do so by oxidizing it to carbon dioxide (co2.) Causing cars to release more greenhouse gas. Lastly they rely on platinum and palladium. These are precious metals and require large energy expenditure and vast geological damage to mine. So really they don't help as much as one would think when you consider all the variables.

You use Lacquer Thinner, not paint thinner (per Scotty). Add 1 gallon of Lacquer Thinner to a half tank of gas and then drive the vehicle above highway speeds for 150 miles (or so) straight. I actually done this to try to clean my cat (it was throwing a P0420 code). Reset my CEL and this worked, but only for about 300 more miles before P0420 coded again. Worth a try just to get it to pass inspection if you don't have the money to have the cat replaced before inspection, AND the cat's "honeycomb" structure isn't damaged such that it's clogging up the exhaust system.
