Behaviour
The slithersucker is a slime mould, a very primitive form of life which is neither animal nor plant but a large, organised community of microbes.
It lives in the lichen trees of the Northern Forest and is an efficient predator. At certain times of the day, it oozes along a branch and dangles strands of itself below, forming a sticky curtain.
It is able to move from tree to tree by living in a megasquid's mantle and then erupting out.
Feeding:
A passing forest flish is easily trapped in the slithersucker's, slimy net.
Once the flish has been caught, the slithersucker slides off the branch and crashes to the forest floor.
There it secretes a digestive acid which slowly dissolves the helpless forest flish.

This show is just about The weirdest thing I’ve ever seen, and I wish more people knew about it. It has such good meme potential.

The Forest Flish weren't given any focus in the airing I watched, so when I say those little brightly colored things flying around in the forest I was so confused--I was like "wait, didn't the narrator just say that birds are extinct in this point of the future?"

I think the idea of the mega squid is a bit out there in terms of evolutionary possibility... at least on land.

Forest Flish, if it lays eggs on dry land in a shell, is probably no longer a fish and perhaps a reptile with a specific appearance. In the course of further evolution he would probably develop feathers and then switch to a cluster of birds.

We used to have a giant cattle that is a direct decendant of mostly all modern cows. It was known as the Aurochs. Sometimes called Uris or Ure, they were alot bigger than their decendants. They died out in the 1800's

All of the slime mold species evolved from a common ancestor: an orange, bipedal creature with a ridiculously inflated sense of self importance. Now, 200 million years, the slime mold is venturing down that path once again.

Actually, insects don't generally rely on their circulatory system for O2. The tracheal tubes go directly into the body. Of course, that has it's own problems for a slime mold. On the other hand, real slime mold grow more than microns thick with no circulatory or tracheal system to be found...
