This is actually one of their more commercial hits during their middle period. Early Slipknot is far more aggressive and raw, songs like "(SIC)", "Eyeless", "Disasterpiece", "People = Shit", "Heretic Anthem" (and many more classics!) Of late they have gone back to the aggression, albeit the band sounds more polished: "Nero Forte", "Unsainted", "Solway Firth", "The Dying Song". Singer Corey Taylor sings in "Slipknot", "Stone Sour" and tours solo, his accoustic version of "Snuff" is a tear jerker when you read the background of it. Enjoy this rabbit hole!

You should check out all of Slipknot. I’ve been screaming along since 2000.

Great reaction Ash. I was not too big of a slipknot fan until I saw them live last year. Changed me forever! I actually only got the tickets because Jinjer was supposed to open and I could check off the Slipknot box. Unfortunately the war changed that. So glad I went, they are amazing live!

Huge Slipknot fan, love this song it really shows Corey Taylors range. I can sympathize with the t-shirt thing, when i wore a Slipknot shirt out in public the first time though sooo many people complemented me on it. There are sooo man Maggots out there. I just found you and I love you did this song. A huge gringe factor: my friend and I asked a DJ in a bar to play this song so we can dance...the DJ was just staring at us. Slooowly. Two middleaged women. But it was a quiet night so he played the song. We were headbanging on the dancefloor and sure enough the floor was crowded by the end of the song. 🤘🏻😂

I just found you and would like to say it is refreshing to see a young woman in these times looking at music objectively. I have always been more of a Slayer hippie or Black Metal kinda dude but enjoy all talent where I see it. Unfortunately now it seems that nothing good is really coming out. Paul Gray Joey Jordison Chris Fehn and now Craig Jones is leaving the band, as a fan I'm very sad to accept it, but that's the reality of a band's life, no one stays but the band name itself.

I see it as an anti-war song. "I did my time and I want out." The character is referring that he did his required time, either in Iraq, or in the military as a whole and wants out. "Go drill your deserts, go fill your graves" Pretty self explanatory. "Then fill your mouth with all the money you will save." While on deployment, troops make a lot more than back in the states. It's still not a lot, but compared to state-side, it's a small fortune. "I'm done! It has begun, I'm not the only one." The character is at his breaking point, he's fed up with the system as a whole. However, his psyche has been corrupted by what he has seen and done. There are others just like him. The chorus of the song refers to the overall corruption and death of a generation as a result of this war. "Fake anti-fascist lie." The lie based off of the poor intelligence that caused us to invade in the first place. "I've tried to tell you, but your purple hearts are giving out." The part about the purple hearts seems to have more than one meaning. The purple heart is a medal that the U.S. military members receive for being wounded in combat. Purple heart could also mean a literal heart that is in poor health. "Can't stop the killing idea. If it's hunting season. Is this what you want?" Now the character is out of the combat zone, back state-side, but all he has is a messed up psyche. Once the "kill switch" has been turned on, it doesn't turned off. All he has is pent up stress, homicidal and suicidal tendencies with a society that does not care or even blames him as part of the problem. Hence the whole term "Psychosocial."

I just recently saw your reaction video and I don't think any of the people answered where they got their inspiration of wearing masks from. Some of them came from a very religious family that they are sometimes forced to go to church and such. Some just have a painful past that they want to mask up with their career. So they decided to wear a mask to live that side of them that they can't show before. They say they can perform much better knowing that it is their true selves that are performing and producing music like this. That's all the info I got so far.

Ok here Im an old fart that has been listening to slipknot since Iowa hit the shelves and have seen them more than a few times. First show was on the tour supporting Iowa and most recent was on the Mayhem festival in 13. As I recall the masks originated to do 2 things. First allow the band to remain anonymous while allowing an expression of individuality. Second was to add a horror show feel to the concerts by making each mask real twisted and morbid. Coreys almost always used to pay a degree of homage to leatherface. And Sids was Pinhead from the hellraiser franchise. Of course Joeys was ghostface. Anyway thanks for your reactions, I hope that I gave a lil insight into the masks and lastly how about a reaction to some old school stuff. Lile something from my sr year of high school in the form of Pantera Cowboys From Hell

Joey's was no where near ghost face lol. His was a japanese noh mask. Not even close. He wore it because his mother wore the mask home one night while drunk and it terrified him as a child. You are completely wrong lol.
